Book Polyurethane Elastomers

Download or read book Polyurethane Elastomers written by Cristina Prisacariu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-07-03 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive account of the physical / mechanical behaviour of polyurethanes (PU ́s) elastomers, films and blends of variable crystallinity. Aspects covered include the elasticity and inelasticity of amorphous to crystalline PUs, in relation to their sensitivity to chemical and physical structure. A study is made of how aspects of the constitutive responses of PUs vary with composition: the polyaddition procedure, the hard segment, soft segment and chain extender (diols and diamines) are varied systematically in a large number of systems of model and novel crosslinked andthermoplastic PUs. Results will be related to: microstructural changes, on the basis of evidence from x-ray scattering (SAXS and WAXS), and also dynamic mechanical analyses (DMA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and IR dichroism. Inelastic effects will be investigated also by including quantitative correlations between the magnitude of the Mullins effect and the fractional energy dissipation by hysteresis under cyclic straining, giving common relations approached by all the materials studied. A major structural feature explored is the relationship between the nature of the hard segment (crystallising or not) and that of the soft segments. Crystallinity has been sometimes observed in the commercial PUs hard phase but this is usually limited to only a few percent for most hard segment structures when solidified from the melt. One particular diisocyanate, 4,4’-dibenzyl diisocyanate (DBDI) that, in the presence of suitable chain extenders ( diols or diamines), gives rise to significant degrees of crystallinity [i-iii] and this is included in the present work. Understanding the reaction pathways involved, in resolving the subtle morphological evolution at the nanometre level, and capturing mathematically the complex, large-deformation nonlinear viscoelastic mechanical behaviour are assumed to bring new important insights in the world basic research in polyurethanes and towards applied industrial research in this area.

Book Preparation Characterization and Evaluations of Polyurethane Elastomers Based on Polyether Glycol Toluene Diisocyanate and Extender Chain Reagents

Download or read book Preparation Characterization and Evaluations of Polyurethane Elastomers Based on Polyether Glycol Toluene Diisocyanate and Extender Chain Reagents written by H. Q. Han and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this study, we focus on the preparation, microstructures, and properties of polyurethane (PU) elastomers by using polyether glycol, toluene diisocyanate, and extender chain reagent. We find that the elastomers prepared by using extender chain reagent exhibit the most excellent mechanical properties. Furthermore, by an optimum synthetic route, hard segments can be formed uniformly in the soft segments, leading to the perfect micro-phase separation. We also find that the relative molecular weight of polyether glycol can affect the mechanical properties of the synthesized PU elastomers, i.e., the more relative molecular weight, the more soft segments, and the smaller tensile strength, rupture strength, and rigidity.

Book Preparation of Polyurethane Elastomer by Using Bis 3 allyloxy 2 propanol Diphenylolpropane as a Crosslinking Agent

Download or read book Preparation of Polyurethane Elastomer by Using Bis 3 allyloxy 2 propanol Diphenylolpropane as a Crosslinking Agent written by Kantima Kaenaramit and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this research is to prepare polyurethane and polyurethane/polystyrene elastomers by using Bis-(3-allyloxy-2-propanol) diphenylolpropane (BAPD) as a crosslinking agent. BAPD contains unsaturated double bonds at both terminals and two hydroxy groups in the molecule. The structures of the obtained polyurethane and polyurethane/polystyrene elastomers are crosslinked network. The compatibility of different phases in the elastomers could be observed from the transparency of the materials and by SEM technique. The mechanical properties including tensile strength and elongation at break of PU and PU/PS elastomers were measured. The values of tensile strength and elongation at break of polymers were in the ranges of 9.59-77.01 kg/cm2 and 57.55-294.57 %, respectively depending upon the equivalent weight ratio, initiator and amount of styrene monomer used. The glass transition temperature and thermal stability were determined by differential scaning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis.

Book Advances in Urethane

Download or read book Advances in Urethane written by Kurt C. Frisch and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-01-16 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flexible polyurenthane foams of all types are a unique group of plastics materials, characterized by the fact that a multitude of different sets of properties can be obtained by varying the levels of a relatively small number of base components in the formulations. Different foam grades, primarily characterized by density and hardness, can be obtained by changing the ratio between base polyol, polymer polyol, water, blowing agent, isocyanate and other components. It is not uncommon for foam producers in industrialized countries to manufacture more than one hundred different foam grades based on these basic chemicals, plus the ancillary chemicals needed for optimized processing. This has always made flexible polyurethane foams a highly suitable candidate for correlating these variations in the formulations with the resulting properties in a mathematical way, aimed at predicting the properties as accurately as possible, fine-tuning existing grades or designing new foam grades. This book discusses the methodology for obtaining meaningful equations for correlating properties with formulation variables and other influencing factors
