Book The Practice of Railway Surveying and Permanent Way Work Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Practice of Railway Surveying and Permanent Way Work Classic Reprint written by S. Wright Perrott and published by . This book was released on 2016-06-22 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Practice of Railway Surveying and Permanent Way Work The authors gained their experience 'as members of the stafis of two leading English Railways, and also when carrying out railway work abroad. The knowledge thus acquired of the best English practice, as well as of the methods adopted in the construction of economic railways in unexplored and undeveloped countries, has enabled them to deal with the subject from the practical point of view. Many of the methods described are original; some are traditional among Railway Engineers and some are those adopted 'by American Engineers, acquaintance with which is necessary for the more complete study of the subject. Little or none of the matter included under Permanent Way has previously appeared in print, and it is hoped that this will be of much assistance to the young permanent way engineer. The authors are indebted to Mr. W. H. Shortt for matter from his paper Practical Method for the Improvement of Existing Railway Curves, read at the Institution of Civil Engineers on January 12th, 1909, and to Mr. James Glover for the mathematical treatment of Transition Curves from his paper Transition Curves for Railways in the Minutes of Proceedings of the Inst. C.e., Vol. Cxl. P. 161. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Railway Practice: A Collection of Working Plans and Practical Details of Construction in the Public Works of the Most Celebrated Engineers This early impression on the author's mind was confirmed by the opinion of gentlemen the best qualified to decide on such a question, and it became conviction when he was assured by his intelligent publisher, that inquiries after such works were frequent, and the demand for information connected with them urgent. Satisfied, therefore, as to the paucity of such information, and the consequent value of any particulars descriptive of the minutiae of this most important branch of engineering, he could not hesitate as to the propriety of producing his Railway Practice, to which he now solicits the favourable notice of the reader. Book Field Book for Railroad Surveying Classic Reprint

Download or read book Field Book for Railroad Surveying Classic Reprint written by Charles Lee Crandall and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-28 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Field Book for Railroad Surveying This book, excepting Chapter II, is an outgrowth of the notes which have been prepared from time to time to supplement the text-books in railroad surveying used at Cornell. They were enlarged to somewhat their present shape some four or five years ago and used in mimeograph form as a text; the Transition Curve, with one or two additional tables, serving as the field book. Last year they were rewritten and printed, practically as now published, and combined with the Transition Curve into a field book, a limited edition of which was issued. The Transition Curve, thoroughly revised and somewhat enlarged, appears as Chapter II of the complete field book, which is now published for general use. And while an apology is due for adding to the large list of books on this subject already available, it is felt that a book more adapted to the needs of the student without neglecting the requirements of practice would meet a real need. With this in view an effort has been made to bring out practical field methods and to give representative problems, leaving much of the work and most of the special problems to the student. Also as far as practicable all matter not directly connected with railroad surveying has been excluded. This has resulted in a book of convenient size for the pocket, though containing everything necessary for field use. Long field computations requiring logarithms are unnecessary. For office computations, five-place logs are sufficient for all railroad field problems. Those by Gauss and by Hussey are the most convenient of any known to the authors. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Treatise on Railway Surveying and Levelling: In Which the Author Has Endeavoured to Simplify the Most Approved Methods Now Adopted by Surveyors This instrument has passed through many im provements, and has now become, for angular work, the most useful. A description of it is rendered almost unnecessary, from our acquaintance with it, through the means of the numerous publi cations extant. A few words explanatory, sufficient for our Work, may be necessary, but its various improvements and many principles of construction, render it impossible to give more than a general idea. It consists of two circular plates of brass, horizontally placed on a tripod, having also a ver tical arc, or semicircle of brass. These plates and the are are furnished with spirit - levels and screws, by which means the instrument is brought to a level with the surface on which the tripod rests. On the vertical arc is placed a telescope, in the focus end of which are fixed, in some, two threads of silk, or hair, intersecting each other diagonally X or at. Book Practical Railway Engineering

Download or read book Practical Railway Engineering written by Clifford F. Bonnett and published by Imperial College Press. This book was released on 2005 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook covers the very wide spectrum of all aspects of railway engineering for all engineering disciplines, in a 'broad brush' way giving a good overall knowledge of what is involved in planning, designing, constructing and maintaining a railway. It covers all types of railway systems including light rail and metro as well as main line. The first edition has proved very popular both with students new to railways and with practicing engineers who need to work in this newly expanding area.In the second edition, the illustrations have been improved and brought up to date, particularly with the introduction of 30 colour pages which include many newly taken photographs. The text has been reviewed for present day accuracy and, where necessary, has been modified or expanded to include reference to recent trends or developments. New topics include automatic train control, level crossings, dot matrix indicators, measures for the mobility impaired, reinforced earth structures, air conditioning, etc. Recent railway experience, both technical and political, has also been reflected in the commentary.
