Book Potentiometric Water Analysis

Download or read book Potentiometric Water Analysis written by Derek Midgley and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1991-09-06 with total page 610 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Potentiometric Water Analysis Second Edition Derek Midgley and Kenneth Torrance, National Power plc, Technology and Environmental Centre, Leatherhead, Surrey, UK This volume is a thoroughly revised and updated version of the very successful first edition. It provides, in one single volume, a comprehensive survey of the theoretical and practical aspects of potentiometry and ion-selective electrodes applied to the analysis of water. The first part of the book describes the basic theory of electrodes, the statistical treatment of results, titrimetric methods and general guidance on procedures. Useful information is given on the types of electrodes available, together with the apparatus required for laboratory and industrial use. For this second edition, the authors include details on microprocessor-based instruments, new electrodes and techniques that have recently been developed, as well as updating the variations on established procedures and their performance characteristics. The second part of the book gives detailed analytical methods for identifying a variety of determinands. Worked examples with discussions of sources of error and likely accuracy are also included. The book is designed to give sufficiently detailed procedures so that the reader can use the methods without recourse to the primary literature. With its emphasis on the practical aspects of potentiometric water analysis, this book will be a valuable tool for analysts working in the field.

Book A Volumetric Determination of Sulphate in Sea Water

Download or read book A Volumetric Determination of Sulphate in Sea Water written by G. Macchi and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Titration of sulfates by means of an aqueous alcoholic solution of BaCl2 using Thorin as indicator, has been adapted to sea-water analysis. Cationic interference has been eliminated by passing the sample, diluted with twice distilled water, through a cation-exchange resin column. Chloride interference has been compensated by standardizing the titrant solution with a solution of H2SO4 containing HCl at a concentration corresponding to the chlorinity of standard sea water. The SO4/Cl ratios of 41 samples collected in various areas of the Mediterranean Sea have been evaluated. (Author).

Book CRC Handbook of Ion Exchange Resins

Download or read book CRC Handbook of Ion Exchange Resins written by Johann Korkisch and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1988-12-31 with total page 720 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The six-volume CRC Handbook of Ion Exchange Resins reviews the application of ion exchange resins to inorganic analytical chemistry. Extracted from over 6,000 original publications, it presents the information in over 1,000 tables complemented by concise descriptions of analytical methods involving virtually all the elements of the periodic table. Also, the ion exchange characteristics of the elements, as well as other important information required by analysis using ion exchange resins, are presented in separate tables. The methods that allow the multi-element analysis of complex matrices are emphasized. This work includes a general discussion of the theoretical, instrumental, and other principles underlying the various applications of ion exchange resins in inorganic analytical chemistry with special attention focused on techniques based on ion chromatography.

This book is organized into three parts encompassing 11 chapters. Part I is an introduction to the variety of ion-selective membrane electrodes that have been constructed and with which experiments have been conducted. This part deals first with the thermodynamic principles and other concepts underlying the description of the behavior of electrolyte solutions, followed by a discussion on the various theories of membrane potential applicable to a variety of solid and liquid membrane electrodes. Part II describes the preparation, properties, and uses of the various solid and liquid membrane electrodes. Part III presents glass membrane electrodes as a prelude to the description of other membrane systems in which glass electrodes are invariably used as the primary sensing device. This book will prove useful to students, technologists, and researchers in various fields of science and technology.
