Book The Effect of Creep and Other Time Related Factors on Plastics and Elastomers

Download or read book The Effect of Creep and Other Time Related Factors on Plastics and Elastomers written by Laurence W. McKeen and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2009-06-25 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second edition of the classic data book, The Effect of Creep and Other Time Related Factors on Plastics and Elastomers (originally published in 1991), has been extensively revised with the addition of an abundance of new data, the removal of all out-dated information, and the complete rebuilding of the product and company listings. This new edition also has been reorganized from a polymer chemistry point of view. Plastics of similar polymer types are grouped into chapters, each with an introduction that briefly explains the chemistry of the polymers used in the plastics. An extensive introductory chapter has also been added, which summarizes the chemistry of making polymers, the formulation of plastics, creep-testing, test methods, measurements, and charts, as well as theory and plastic selection. Each chapter is generally organized by product and concludes with comparisons of brand or generic products. The appendices include a list of trade names, plastics sold under those names, and manufacturer. A list of conversion factors for stress measures is also included.ABOUT THE AUTHORLaurence W. McKeen earned a B.S. in Chemistry from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1973 and a Ph.D. in 1978 from the University of Wisconsin. He began his career with DuPont in 1978 as a mass spectroscopist, but moved into product development in the Teflon® Finishes group in 1980. Dr. McKeen has accumulated over 28 years of experience in product development and applications, working with customers in a wide range of industries, which has led to the creation of dozens of commercial products. More than 8 core chapters, which serve as a databank for evaluating the creep of plastics Over 600 uniform graphs for more than 45 generic families of plastics are explained Types of graphs include: (1) Isochronous Stress–Strain Curves at Various Times and Temperatures (2) Creep Strain or Creep Deformation versus Time at Various Stress Levels and Temperatures (3) Various Modulus Measures (Tensile, Compressive, Flexural) versus Time at Various Temperatures (4) Hoop Stress versus Time at Various Temperatures (5) Stress Cracking and Other Plastics Failure versus Time (6) Creep Rupture versus Time

Book Ahmed Aziz s Epic Year

Download or read book Ahmed Aziz s Epic Year written by Nina Hamza and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2021-06-22 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This hilarious and poignant tween debut about dealing with bullies, making friends, and the power of good books is a great next read for fans of Merci Suárez Changes Gears and John David Anderson. Ahmed Aziz is having an epic year—epically bad. After his dad gets sick, the family moves from Hawaii to Minnesota for his dad’s treatment. Even though his dad grew up there, Ahmed can’t imagine a worse place to live. He’s one of the only brown kids in his school. And as a proud slacker, Ahmed doesn’t want to deal with expectations from his new teachers. Ahmed surprises himself by actually reading the assigned books for his English class: Holes, Bridge to Terabithia, and From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. Shockingly, he doesn’t hate them. Ahmed also starts learning about his uncle, who died before Ahmed was born. Getting bits and pieces of his family’s history might be the one upside of the move, as his dad’s health hangs in the balance and the school bully refuses to leave him alone. Will Ahmed ever warm to Minnesota? * A Chicago Public Library Kids Best Book of the Year * A BookPage Best Book of the Year * Finalist for the Minnesota Book Award *

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Handbook of Impact Modifiers provides key information on how to modify structure and morphology, improve mechanical performance, and prevent changes during the use of polymeric products through proper selection of impact modifiers. The book brings analyses of important publications found in open and patent literature, with special attention given to recent findings that have brought many new essential developments. Sections cover an analysis of chemical origin and related properties of impact modifiers, which are analyzed in general terms to highlight the differences in their properties. This handbook contains the essential theoretical knowledge required for proper selection and use of impact modifiers, including their morphological structure and distribution in a polymer matrix, the effect of polymer crystallization in the presence of and without impact modifiers, important influences on impact modification, mechanisms of modification, and effective methods of incorporation of impact modifiers. Outlines strategies for modifying the structure and improving the mechanical properties of polymeric products through proper application of impact modifiers Provides detailed information on impact modifiers, including their morphological structure and distribution in a polymer matrix, the effects of polymer crystallization with and without impact modifiers, influences on impact modification, the mechanisms of modification, and more Includes analytical techniques, heath and safety and environmental considerations, and processing methods

Book Fluoropolymer Additives

Download or read book Fluoropolymer Additives written by Sina Ebnesajjad and published by William Andrew. This book was released on 2011-12-16 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, the applications of fluoropolymer additives have expanded significantly, with even the meaning of 'fluoropolymer additives' expanding from relatively the narrow definition of PTFE powder fillers to a wide variety of fluoropolymer elastomers, used as a processing aid for plastics processing such as extrusion, injection molding, and film blowing. The benefits of fluoropolymer additives used in plastics are the elimination of sharkskin defects, increases in process speed and output (up to 20%), the reduction of die build up, the reduction of gels and optical defects, etc. In addition, fluropolymer additives are being increasingly used in inks, lubricants, and coatings. For example, in the coating industry fluoropolymer additives can increase the life cycle of exterior coatings due to their excellent weatherability and subsequently increase the time between recoats. Engineers and scientist involved in polymer processing need practical information about these additives, their applications, and proper and safe handling. Until now much of this information has been difficult to obtain because of commercial secrecy. Existing books on polymer additives only include the briefest of coverage of fluoropolymer additives. In this first book on an additive group of growing importance, the authors review the commercial additives available on the market. The applications chapters provide readers with a step by step description of techniques to select and incorporate these additives in various products. UNIQUE FEATURES AND BENEFITS: Fluoropolymer additives are becoming more widely used with key applications including use as a polymer processing aid (increasing speed and reducing faults) and as an additive to lubricants, inks and coatings. This book is the only practical guide available to the selection and use of fluoropolymer additives, and will help readers to optimize existing fluoropolymer applications and implement new ones. Fluoropolymers are known as an area where detailed information is hard to come by. In this book two former DuPont employees provide a wide range of industry sectors with the essential practical information and data they need to realize the full benefits of fluoropolymer additives. Written for practicing engineers, Ebnesajjad and Morgan take a highly practical approach to the subject, based on real-world experience and case studies.
