Book The Politics of Loving God Courageous Truths for Contentious Times

Download or read book The Politics of Loving God Courageous Truths for Contentious Times written by David Fowler and published by Family Action Council of Tennessee. This book was released on 2013-11-12 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A family advocate and devout Christian, author David Fowler speaks with the voice of compassion as he outlines in terms of the two great commandments of Scripture how Christians should respond to the controversies of the day. As a former politician, practicing lawyer and policy analyst, he is in a unique position to offer insights on the politics of loving God and neighbor in a post-modern culture. As Fowler points out, contrary to popular opinion biblical love requires more than the live-and-let-live philosophy of today. And he beckons Christians to reckon love for God and neighbor as the basis upon which God once again makes America a beacon of light to others. The Politics of Loving God: Courageous Truths for Contentious Times speaks the truth in love to a nation that needs it.

Book Confronting Injustice without Compromising Truth

Download or read book Confronting Injustice without Compromising Truth written by Thaddeus J. Williams and published by Zondervan Academic. This book was released on 2020-12-22 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God does not suggest, he commands that we do justice. Social justice is not optional for the Christian. All injustice affects others, so talking about justice that isn't social is like talking about water that isn't wet or a square with no right angles. But the Bible's call to seek justice is not a call to superficial, kneejerk activism. We are not merely commanded to execute justice, but to "truly execute justice." The God who commands us to seek justice is the same God who commands us to "test everything" and "hold fast to what is good." Drawing from a diverse range of theologians, sociologists, artists, and activists, Confronting Injustice without Compromising Truth, by Thaddeus Williams, makes the case that we must be discerning if we are to "truly execute justice" as Scripture commands. Not everything called "social justice" today is compatible with a biblical vision of a better world. The Bible offers hopeful and distinctive answers to deep questions of worship, community, salvation, and knowledge that ought to mark a uniquely Christian pursuit of justice. Topics addressed include: Racism Sexuality Socialism Culture War Abortion Tribalism Critical Theory Identity Politics Confronting Injustice without Compromising Truth also brings in unique voices to talk about their experiences with these various social justice issues, including: Michelle-Lee Barnwall Suresh Budhaprithi Eddie Byun Freddie Cardoza Becket Cook Bella Danusiar Monique Duson Ojo Okeye Edwin Ramirez Samuel Sey Neil Shenvi Walt Sobchak In Confronting Injustice without Compromising Truth, Thaddeus Williams transcends our religious and political tribalism and challenges readers to discover what the Bible and the example of Jesus have to teach us about justice. He presents a compelling vision of justice for all God's image-bearers that offers hopeful answers to life's biggest questions.

Book excerpt: Millions of Christians have struggled with how to reconcile God's love and God's judgment: Has God created billions of people over thousands of years only to select a few to go to heaven and everyone else to suffer forever in hell? Is this acceptable to God? How is this "good news"? Troubling questions—so troubling that many have lost their faith because of them. Others only whisper the questions to themselves, fearing or being taught that they might lose their faith and their church if they ask them out loud. But what if these questions trouble us for good reason? What if the story of heaven and hell we have been taught is not, in fact, what the Bible teaches? What if what Jesus meant by heaven, hell, and salvation are very different from how we have come to understand them? What if it is God who wants us to face these questions? Author, pastor, and innovative teacher Rob Bell presents a deeply biblical vision for rediscovering a richer, grander, truer, and more spiritually satisfying way of understanding heaven, hell, God, Jesus, salvation, and repentance. The result is the discovery that the "good news" is much, much better than we ever imagined. Love wins.

Violence in Nigeria is the most comprehensive study of religious violence and aggression in Nigeria, notably its causes, consequences, and the options for conflict resolution. After an analysis of the links between religionand politics, the book elaborates on all the major cases of violence in the 1980s and 90s, including the Maitatsine, Kano, Bauchi, Kaduna, and Katsina riots. Zones of religious tensions are identified, as well as general characteristics of violence in Nigeria; and issues in inter and intra-religious relations, relious organizations, and the states, and the main actors in the conflicts are explored in great detail. A product of extensive primary research, Violence in Nigeria makes a contribution to contemporary social and political history that no previous study has attempted, and it is written to appeal to specialists and non-specialists alike. Toyin Falola is the Jacob and Frances Sanger Mossiker Chair in the Humanities and University Distinguished Teaching Professor at the University of Texas at Austin. He is the author or editor of over a dozen books dealing with the history of Nigeria, its people, their religion and politics.

Download or read book Controversial Bible Topics written by Reverend Terry Loomis and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-03-11 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two friends of mine, Reverend Thurman Harris and Bishop Bill Dishman, inspired me to write this book. We would often talk of the differences in the theology of various churches on many topics. I tested some of these topics by the text in the Bible, looking to verify each viewpoint from their perspective. I tested these topics using the Bible verses in the way that they would apply them. By taking the Bible verses within their context, we can see if they are demonstrating support for their particular topical viewpoints. I have provided the Bible verses using the King James version. In some cases, I also provided commentaries on the Bible verses that may aid in their understanding. By writing this book, I realize that there will always be some people that will feel that their viewpoint is more correct in any case. The Bible, having been given to us by the Holy Spirit, is for two purposes: one to instruct us for spiritual growth, the second is how to seek and to save that which is lost leading them to salvation. But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. (2 Peter 3:18) For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. (Luke 19:10)
