Book excerpt: Playground Pals was developed to help in the Education of children ages Pre-K – 1st grade in all basic areas including Language, Math, Science, and Social Studies. The premise behind the book series is to show that we can all be friends no matter what our physical differences are, in addition to learning a skill. Each book will begin with the introduction of 12 children who have met and play on a playground. Many of the characters names are based from children in my life through teaching or family. There is a lot of research, and having first hand knowledge when I was a teacher, that states that children learn better from their peers, which is how the concept of the characters came to be. Each character will represent a boy and girl from six backgrounds – European American, African American, Native American, Asian American, South American and Middle-Eastern American. The Playground Pals series is also a tool to use for beginner readers using simple text and storylines.

Book Anthony Meets The Playground Bully

Download or read book Anthony Meets The Playground Bully written by Kevin Bailey and published by Kevin Bailey. This book was released on 2009-01-13 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The bullying that our young people face every day – in their schools, on their playgrounds and even in their homes – leads to a host of social and personal maladies. Author Kevin Bailey wrote Anthony Meets The Playground Bully to aid in the elimination of bullying in all of its forms. Anthony is a young boy who is faced with one of children’s biggest fears: the playground bully. Today, Anthony must rescue his best pal Ryan from the clutches of said tyrant. One major problem: The bully is much larger than both he and Ryan, so Anthony realizes that he must use his brain, not his fists, to be successful. Take an interesting journey with Anthony and his pals to see just how cleverly our hero sets about his rescue. For every parent or child who has ever had to deal with a bully, this is a must-read. The author’s intent, however, is that this not be just the standard David and Goliath story. He accomplishes this by sharing insight on what may cause an individual to bully in the first place. Though very entertaining, the narrative delivers an important lesson that Anthony has learned on the lap of his grandfather. Author’s suggestion: Read it with a friend or many friends.

Book excerpt: It’s the season of siren songs and loosened bonds―as well as war, campaign slogans, and assassination. At the height of the Vietnam War protests, Washington lawyer Tom Rayson uproots his family for the freewheeling city of Berkeley. While Tom pursues a romance with a sexy colleague in the Marin County woods, Marian joins a peace party that’s running a Black Panther for president and meets the Berkeley revolution. But for young Alice, her parents’ liberating forays become a blind leap in a city marked by beauty and social change―and for a girl, that’s no Summer of Love. Feeling estranged from her family, Alice embraces the moment and falls in with Jim and Valerie Dupres. Jim and Valerie have been learning the ropes on Telegraph Avenue, cadging meals at a nearby communal house and camping out in People’s Park. Soon they’re confronting National Guardsmen. As family and school fade away in a tear-gas fog, Alice feels an ambiguous freedom. Caught up in a rebellion that feels equally compelling, scary, and absurd, Alice could become a casualty—or she could defy the odds and become her own person. One thing is sure: there’s no going back.
