Book Matrix Methods of Structural Analysis

Download or read book Matrix Methods of Structural Analysis written by R. K. Livesley and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Matrix Methods of Structural Analysis, 2nd Edition deals with the use of matrix methods as standard tools for solving most non-trivial problems of structural analysis. Emphasis is on skeletal structures and the use of a more general finite element approach. The methods covered have natural links with techniques for automatic redundant selection in elastic analysis. This book is comprised of 11 chapters and begins with an introduction to the concepts and notation of matrix algebra, along with the value of a systematic approach; structure as an assembly of elements; boundaries and nodes; linearity and superposition; and how analytical methods are built up. The discussion then turns to the variables which form the basis of much of structural analysis, as well as the most important relationships between them. Subsequent chapters focus on the elastic properties of single elements; the equilibrium or displacement method; the equilibrium equations of a complete structure; plastic analysis and design; transfer matrices; and the analysis of non-linear structures. The compatibility or force method is also described. The final chapter considers the limits imposed by the size and accuracy of the computer used in structural analysis and how they can be extended. This monograph will be of interest to structural engineers and students of engineering.

Book Advanced Methods of Structural Analysis

Download or read book Advanced Methods of Structural Analysis written by Igor A. Karnovsky and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-03-16 with total page 824 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This revised and significantly expanded edition contains a rigorous examination of key concepts, new chapters and discussions within existing chapters, and added reference materials in the appendix, while retaining its classroom-tested approach to helping readers navigate through the deep ideas, vast collection of the fundamental methods of structural analysis. The authors show how to undertake the numerous analytical methods used in structural analysis by focusing on the principal concepts, detailed procedures and results, as well as taking into account the advantages and disadvantages of each method and sphere of their effective application. The end result is a guide to mastering the many intricacies of the range of methods of structural analysis. The book differentiates itself by focusing on extended analysis of beams, plane and spatial trusses, frames, arches, cables and combined structures; extensive application of influence lines for analysis of structures; simple and effective procedures for computation of deflections; introduction to plastic analysis, stability, and free and forced vibration analysis, as well as some special topics. Ten years ago, Professor Igor A. Karnovsky and Olga Lebed crafted a must-read book. Now fully updated, expanded, and titled Advanced Methods of Structural Analysis (Strength, Stability, Vibration), the book is ideal for instructors, civil and structural engineers, as well as researches and graduate and post graduate students with an interest in perfecting structural analysis.

Book Modern Structural Analysis

Download or read book Modern Structural Analysis written by Anthony E. Armenàkas and published by McGraw-Hill Companies. This book was released on 1991 with total page 780 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This companion to the previously published book [BO]Classical Structural Analysis[BX], also by the same author, focuses on advanced structural analysis using matrix methods for the element method of design calculations. With this method, the structural properties of each structural member (or element) taken together, of an entire structure, are used to calculate load behaviour and construction needs of a whole building or other structure. The matrix method is particularly suited to computer methods that must employ thousands of reiterate calculations. The book contains dozens of worked-out problems and design exercises, as well as an actual computer program at the end of the book for matrix method calculations.

Book Examples in Structural Analysis Second Edition

Download or read book Examples in Structural Analysis Second Edition written by William M.C. McKenzie and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-12-20 with total page 837 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second edition of Examples in Structural Analysis uses a step-by-step approach and provides an extensive collection of fully worked and graded examples for a wide variety of structural analysis problems. It presents detailed information on the methods of solutions to problems and the results obtained. Also given within the text is a summary of each of the principal analysis techniques inherent in the design process and where appropriate, an explanation of the mathematical models used. The text emphasises that software should only be used if designers have the appropriate knowledge and understanding of the mathematical modelling, assumptions and limitations inherent in the programs they use. It establishes the use of hand-methods for obtaining approximate solutions during preliminary design and an independent check on the answers obtained from computer analyses. What’s New in the Second Edition: New chapters cover the development and use of influence lines for determinate and indeterminate beams, as well as the use of approximate analyses for indeterminate pin-jointed and rigid-jointed plane-frames. This edition includes a rewrite of the chapter on buckling instability, expands on beams and on the use of the unit load method applied to singly redundant frames. The x-y-z co-ordinate system and symbols have been modified to reflect the conventions adopted in the structural Eurocodes. William M. C. McKenzie is also the author of six design textbooks relating to the British Standards and the Eurocodes for structural design and one structural analysis textbook. As a member of the Institute of Physics, he is both a chartered engineer and a chartered physicist and has been involved in consultancy, research and teaching for more than 35 years.

Book Structural Analysis

Download or read book Structural Analysis written by Jacques Heyman and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1998-05-07 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume provides a concise, historical review of the methods of structural analysis and design - from Galileo in the seventeenth century, to the present day. Through it, students in structural engineering and professional engineers will gain a deeper understanding of the theory behind the modern software packages they use daily in structural design. This book also offers the reader a lucid examination of the process of structural analysis and how it relates to modern design. The first three chapters cover questions about the strength of materials, and how to calculate local effects. An account is then given of the development of the equations of elastic flexure and buckling, followed by a separate chapter on masonry arches. Three chapters on the overall behaviour of elastic structures lead to a discussion of plastic behaviour, and a final chapter indicates that there are still problems needing solution.

Download or read book Structural Impact written by Norman Jones and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-12-26 with total page 605 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structural Impact is concerned with the behaviour of structures and components subjected to large dynamic, impact and explosive loads which produce inelastic deformations. It is of interest for safety calculations, hazard assessments and energy absorbing systems throughout industry. The first five chapters introduce the rigid plastic methods of analysis for the static behaviour and the dynamic response of beams, plates and shells. The influence of transverse shear, rotatory inertia, finite displacements and dynamic material properties are introduced and studied in some detail. Dynamic progressive buckling, which develops in several energy absorbing systems, and the phenomenon of dynamic plastic buckling are introduced. Scaling laws are discussed which are important for relating the response of small-scale experimental tests to the dynamic behaviour of full-scale prototypes. This text is invaluable to undergraduates, graduates and professionals learning about the behaviour of structures subjected to large impact, dynamic and blast loadings producing an inelastic response.
