Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Physical Chemistry of the Metals There is perhaps no field Where physical chemistry is of more value than in the field of metallurgy and metallography. In the latter field - its usefulness has been recognized almost from the first but in the field, of metallurgy its application has not been so general. It is hoped that this translation may aid in making the value of chemical dynamics and equilibrium clear to the metallurgist and metallurgical student. Our aim is to provide readers with the highest quality reproductions of fiction and non-fiction literature that has stood the test of time. The many thousands of books in our collection have been sourced from libraries and private collections around the world. The titles that Trieste Publishing has chosen to be part of the collection have been scanned to simulate the original. Our readers see the books the same way that their first readers did decades or a hundred or more years ago. Books from that period are often spoiled by imperfections that did not exist in the original. Imperfections could be in the form of blurred text, photographs, or missing pages. It is highly unlikely that this would occur with one of our books. Our extensive quality control ensures that the readers of Trieste Publishing's books will be delighted with their purchase. Our staff has thoroughly reviewed every page of all the books in the collection, repairing, or if necessary, rejecting titles that are not of the highest quality. This process ensures that the reader of one of Trieste Publishing's titles receives a volume that faithfully reproduces the original, and to the maximum degree possible, gives them the experience of owning the original work.We pride ourselves on not only creating a pathway to an extensive reservoir of books of the finest quality, but also providing value to every one of our readers. Book Metallography Classic Reprint

Download or read book Metallography Classic Reprint written by Cecil H. Desch and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Metallography The study of metallic alloys by physical and miscroscopical methods has reached so great a development in recent years as to form a distinct branch of physical chemistry. In the following pages I have sought to present an account of the methods employed in this branch of study, and of the conclusions which have been reached, and also to indicate the directions in which further research is needed. The attempt has been made to discriminate, in the literature of the subject, between investigations performed with the requisite care and thoroughness, and those which, from the use of impure materials in preparing the alloys, the examination of insufficiently large quantities, or other causes, fail to reach the standard of accuracy required in physico-chemical work. The abbreviations employed in the footnotes are, in most cases, those adopted by the Chemical Society, and the remainder will, it is hoped, be self-explanatory. References to Russian periodicals are only given if the investigation has not been published in full in another language. The whole of the photo-micrographs have been prepared in the Metallurgical Laboratory of the University of Glasgow. Book Manual of Metallurgy

Download or read book Manual of Metallurgy written by John Arthur Phillips and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-26 with total page 642 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Manual of Metallurgy: Or, a Practical Treatise on the Chemistry of the Metals The methods of extracting the metals from their ores are so extremely varied that it would be impossible to comprise them all within the limits of a single volume; the more important processes have therefore been selected. In describing these, the necessary facts have been presented to the student in the order in which a knowledge of them is required; the crude ores being traced from the mines in which they occur through the various mechanical and metallurgic elaborations which they subsequently undergo before the metal is obtained. The student of metallurgy should be enabled to distinguish, by their crystallographic as well as by their chemical characters, all the more frequently occurring ores, and be familiarly acquainted with the composition and properties of the various fuels employed in furnace operations. With a view to facilitate the acquirement of this knowledge, a short chapter on crystallography has been introduced, whilst another has been devoted to natural and artificial fuels. The information which has been given on the important subject of Assaying will, it is hoped, sufficiently supply a want which has been long felt in this country. In the preparation of this volume, the works of Dufrenoy, Regnault, Berthier, Knapp, Scheerer, Le Play, Rammelsberg, Lampadius, Dana, Karsten, and Aileron de Vieillefosse, have been consulted. Other authors whose works have been used will be found specially mentioned in the text. As a former pupil of the first-named mineralogist, I have employed in a condensed form the system of crystallography adopted in his valuable work on that subject, from which have been taken the greater portion of the diagrams relating to the laws of crystallization. Book A Text Book of Inorganic Chemistry Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Text Book of Inorganic Chemistry Classic Reprint written by George Senter and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-11 with total page 598 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A d104-Book of Inorganic Chemistry It follows from the above statement that the theoretical part of the subject is distributed throughout the book. The different topics are dealt with as Opportunity offers, but the treatment of any particular subject is postponed till facts illustrating it have been mentioned. The subject in question is then considered as fully as space permits - a mode of procedure which appears preferable to dealing with it in a fragmentary manner in different parts of the book. The latter method may usefully be employed for lectures, but the former method greatly increases the value of the book for purposes of reference and revision. As regards the order, I have also been guided to some extent by the historical development of the science. Subject to the above considerations, the more important branches of chemical theory, including the Principles of Chemical Equilibrium, the determination of Molecular Weights in Solu tion, Electrolysis and Electrolytic Dissociation, are introduced at a fairly early stage of the work, and their applications are repeatedly illustrated in the latter part of the book. The Periodic System is described after the non-metals, and serves as the basis for the discussion of the metals and their com pounds. One of the main tasks of a teacher is so to familiarize the student with a general principle that he learns to apply it with confidence. The mere statement of a principle, in the expectation that the student will straightway apply it in his later work, is useless. It will be found that the subjects usually included in an Elementary Course, such as Stage I. Of the Board of Education, are all dealt with in the early part of the book, and the more advanced work in the later chapters. Further division of the subject into stages leads inevitably to the result that information regarding any important element has to be sought for in different parts of the book, thus rendering it much less useful for purposes of reference and revision.
