Book The Photophysics of Pyridinium Betaines Studied by Ultrafast Transient Absorption Spectroscopy

Download or read book The Photophysics of Pyridinium Betaines Studied by Ultrafast Transient Absorption Spectroscopy written by Zuzanna Pawlowska and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work deals with the photophysics, in solution, of Pyridinium betaine, 2-Pyridin-1-yl-1H-benzimidazole (SBPa), and two derivatives substituted by mono- or bi-thiophene groups. It is based on a combination of steady-state and time-resolved absorption spectroscopic measurements, supported by PCM-(TD)DFT calculations. SBPa was found to undergo ultrafast intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) upon light excitation, with a drastic change in dipole moment. Stationary absorption and emission as well as TDDFT results revealed a strongly solvatochromic CT absorption due to a S0→S2(CT) transition and a non-solvatochromic emission due to S1→S0 transition. Comprehensive band shape analysis and innovative solvatochromic data treatment considering protic and aprotic solvents separately led to a detailed knowledge of the solvent effects and allowed estimating four relevant dipole moments. From extensive femtosecond transient absorption experiments, the overall photophysics of SBPa could be discussed in terms of two distinct CT states and a complete photophysical scheme was proposed: a subpicosecond ICT process occurs from the initially populated S2(CT) state to a charge transfer S1(CT) state, in parallel to the ultrafast production (t

Book Recent Advances in Density Functional Methods

Download or read book Recent Advances in Density Functional Methods written by Delano Pun Chong and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1995 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Of all the different areas in computational chemistry, density functional theory (DFT) enjoys the most rapid development. Even at the level of the local density approximation (LDA), which is computationally less demanding, DFT can usually provide better answers than Hartree-Fock formalism for large systems such as clusters and solids. For atoms and molecules, the results from DFT often rival those obtained by ab initio quantum chemistry, partly because larger basis sets can be used. Such encouraging results have in turn stimulated workers to further investigate the formal theory as well as the computational methodology of DFT.This Part II expands on the methodology and applications of DFT. Some of the chapters report on the latest developments (since the publication of Part I in 1995), while others extend the applications to wider range of molecules and their environments. Together, this and other recent review volumes on DFT show that DFT provides an efficient and accurate alternative to traditional quantum chemical methods. Such demonstration should hopefully stimulate frutiful developments in formal theory, better exchange-correlation functionals, and linear scaling methodology.

Book Olefin Polymerization

Download or read book Olefin Polymerization written by Walter Kaminsky and published by Wiley-VCH. This book was released on 2006-08-18 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With an enormous velocity, olefin polymerization has expanded to one of the most significant fields in polymers since the first industrial use about 50 years ago. In 2005, 100 million tons of polyolefins were produced - the biggest part was catalyzed by metallorganic compounds.
