Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Colloque Weyl I was convened in June 1963 at the Catholic University of Lille to commemorate one hundred years of the study of metal-ammonia solutions. This memorable event, which involved a "single-particle excitation", inspired Gerard Lepoutre to assemble an international group of physicists and chemists to discuss the nature of metal-ammonia solutions. Colloque Weyl II, which took 1969, was initiated as a place at Cornell Universtiy, Ithaca, N.Y. in June "cooperative interaction" between M. J. Sienko, J. L. Dye, J. J. Lagowski, G. Lepoutre and J. C. Thompson. That meeting made it clear that Colloque Weyl should be continued in order to promote the fruitful exchange of ideas set in motion at Lille and at Cornell. Colloque Weyl III came into being as the result of a resolution passed at the Cornell meeting, Tel-Aviv University being the suggested site. The Organizing Committee consisted ofE. D. Bergmann, J. Jortner, J. J. Lagowski, G. Lepoutre, U. Schindewolf and M. J. Sienko, reflecting the international and interdisciplinary aspects of the field.

Book Photoelectron Emission by Solvated Electrons in Liquid Ammonia

Download or read book Photoelectron Emission by Solvated Electrons in Liquid Ammonia written by H. Aulich and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Photoelectron emission (PEE) by potassium (0.002 to 3 mole/liter) and sodium (0.013 to 0.21 and 7.2 mole/liter) in liquid ammonia at -60C was studied from 1.55 to 5.4 eV. The PEE spectrum is composed of the previously reported band with its maximum about 3.2 eV and a new band peaking about 4.6 eV. The highly asymmetric low-energy band is assigned to PEE by solvated electrons. Its interpretation by a recent model for PEE by solutions results in a linear dependence of the range of quasi-free electrons in solution on photon energy. The 4.6 eV symmetric PEE band is interpreted as the result of bound-bound transitions followed by autoionization. Experimental methods are outlined. (Author).

Book Internal Photoemission Spectroscopy

Download or read book Internal Photoemission Spectroscopy written by Valeri V. Afanas'ev and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-02-22 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second edition of Internal Photoemission Spectroscopy thoroughly updates this vital, practical guide to internal photoemission (IPE) phenomena and measurements. The book's discussion of fundamental physical and technical aspects of IPE spectroscopic applications is supplemented by an extended overview of recent experimental results in swiftly advancing research fields. These include the development of insulating materials for advanced SiMOS technology, metal gate materials, development of heterostructures based on high-mobility semiconductors, and more. Recent results concerning the band structure of important interfaces in novel materials are covered as well. Internal photoemission involves the physics of charge carrier photoemission from one solid to another, and different spectroscopic applications of this phenomenon to solid state heterojunctions. This technique complements conventional external photoemission spectroscopy by analyzing interfaces separated from the sample surface by a layer of a different solid or liquid. Internal photoemission provides the most straightforward, reliable information regarding the energy spectrum of electron states at interfaces. At the same time, the method enables the analysis of heterostructures relevant to modern micro- and nano-electronic devices as well as new materials involved in their design and fabrication. First complete model description of the internal photoemission phenomena Overview of the most reliable energy barrier determination procedures and trap characterization methods Overview of the most recent results on band structure of high-permittivity insulating materials and their interfaces with semiconductors and metals

Book Excess Electrons in Dielectric Media

Download or read book Excess Electrons in Dielectric Media written by Christiane Ferradini and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1991-08-05 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive review of the present knowledge and current problems concerning physical-chemical aspects of the behavior of excess electrons in various media. The book's 13 chapters strike a balance between theoretical and experimental accounts and provide in-depth presentations of specific subjects. Among the several topics discussed in this stimulating volume are primary interactions, transport, and relaxation of excess electrons of a few tens of electron-Volts in various solid and liquid materials; energetics and transport properties of electrons after thermalization in non-polar dielectric liquids; quantum simulation methods; and electron solvation in polar liquids and of excess electrons trapped in polar matrices at low temperature. Applications of these concepts are discussed as well, including hot electron transport in silicon dioxide, the fate of excess electrons created in polar dielectric liquids by photoelectrochemical methods or by cathodic generation, and excess electron production and decay in organic microheterogeneous systems. Researchers, instructors, and engineers working in the radiation sciences, condensed-matter physics, chemical physics, biophysics, photochemistry, and the biochemistry of electron transfer and electrochemistry should consider this book to be an invaluable reference resource.

Book Modern Aspects of Electrochemistry No 7

Download or read book Modern Aspects of Electrochemistry No 7 written by B. E. Conway and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite reductions in the level of research activity in most fields which, for reasons of economic decline, have taken place in the U.S. during the last year or two, world progress in the fundamental aspects has continued actively. An important aspect of such recent work has been the use of nonaqueous solvents in studies on the constitution of the double-layer and electrochemical reactions. Interpretation of the behavior of electrode interfaces in such solvents demands more knowledge of the solvation properties of ions in nonaqueous media. Chapter 1 by Pad ova on "Ionic Solvation in Nonaqueous and Mixed Solvents" gives an up to date review of the present state of knowledge in this field, together with tabulations of data that are likely to be of quantitative value in further investigations of both homogeneous and heterogeneous electrochemistry in such media. Electrochemical studies of cathodic processes in nonaqueous solvents have, in recent years, revealed the role of solvated electrons. These are of interest in new approaches to reductive electro-organic synthesis. Similarly, the generation of hydrated electrons in photo cathodic processes is of great interest. In Chapter 2, by Conway, the conditions under which solvated electrons can arise in electrode processes are critically examined and the electro-organic reactions that hwe been investigated are reviewed. The supposed electro generation of hydrated electrons in the water solvent and as inter mediates in cathodic hydrogen evolution is shown to be unlikely.
