Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Phoenix Miracle is a book about how to soar beyond disasters, losses and tragedies to give compassion, love and light to others. This book is about the author’s strong belief that we have the inner strength and resilience to overcome our trials and tribulations. It is a book that hopefully helps the reader acquire healing insights in dealing with life’s challenges. The Phoenix Miracle is considered the workbook sequel to the author’s previous book, The Courage to Encourage. Having experienced losses and tragedies, I learned that the light truly shines brightly within the darkness of our grieving spirits. Tragedies teach us that a higher force is in control. Disasters bring out the best in us when we choose to be of help and service to the down-trodden and those afflicted with its life-changing consequences. It is my hope that this book can help people strengthen their resilience within and that most of all, to know that they are not alone.

Book Phoenix Miracles in Emerging Markets

Download or read book Phoenix Miracles in Emerging Markets written by Guillermo A. Calvo and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using a sample of emerging markets that are integrated into global bond markets, we analyse the collapse and recovery phase of output collapses that coincide with systemic sudden stops, defined as periods of skyrocketing aggregate bond spreads and large capital flow reversals. Our findings indicate the presence of a very similar pattern across different episodes: output recovers with virtually no recovery in either domestic or foreign credit, a phenomenon that we call Phoenix Miracle, where output "rises from its ashes", suggesting that firms go through a process of financial engineering to restore liquidity outside the formal credit markets. Moreover, we show that the US Great Depression could be catalogued as a Phoenix Miracle. However, in contrast to the US Great Depression, EM output collapses occur in a context of accelerating price inflation and falling real wages, casting doubts on price deflation and nominal wage rigidity as key elements in explaining output collapse, and suggesting that financial factors are prominent for understanding these collapses.

Book excerpt: In her second full-length poetry collection, Miracle Marks, activist Purvi Shah charts women’s status through pointed explorations of Hindu iconography and philosophy and powerful critiques of American racism. In these searing, revelatory poems, Shah reminds us that surviving birth as an infant girl and living as a woman is miraculous—as such, every girl is a miracle mark. And because education is often denied to girls, writing by women is a miracle. In Miracle Marks, Shah probes belonging, devotion, and social inequity, delving into what it means to be a woman, and what it means to be. Through sound energy and white space, these poems chart multiple realities, including the miracles of women’s labors and survivals. This collection spurs dialogue across audiences and communities and lights a way for brown girls and women who relish in spirit, intellect, politics, and justice.

Book excerpt: The willingness of people to believe in magical icons, mystical relics, and miraculous pictures (like the Image of Guadalupe) is almost as curious as these phenomena themselves. Though they cry out for scientific investigation, millions of people blindly accept them as fact. Historical and paranormal investigator Joe Nickell confronts such strange events, powers, and objects as the Shroud of Turin, bleeding or weeping statues, burning handprints, liquefying blood, ecstatic visions, miraculous cures, and people speaking in tongues in Looking for a Miracle. Departing from standard critiques of religion, Nickell carefully investigates the evidence relating to specific claims. Religious believers and rationalists alike have much to learn from this revealing examination of the evidence for the miraculous.

Book excerpt: It was Friday eve: around three in the afternoon ... a ringing phone. Wrong number, perhaps? My sister answered; who was she talking too? Who was the voice on the other end? Were they asking for someone? What was being spoken in her ear that caused her to be unable to speak? What had startled her so much that she completely froze? “All time appeared to have stopped; surly the dial of Ahaz, the sun dial had gone back another ten degrees. For what appeared to be the longest moment in time, in a petrified voice, she finally spoke ... hello, hello ... Torch tells the story of a young adult who has an encounter with the One True God—Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh—rendered I Am that I Am! Torch will set the record straight on the truth that God is the One true God of all Flesh. “When God commissioned Moses to be Israel’s liberator from the bondage of Pharaoh Egypt, he asked for God’s name in order to validate his God-given role to the children of Israel (Exodus 3:14). God simply answered Moses, “Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh.” During my secret experience with the great I Am, God gave me two commands and a promise. KJV Proverbs 25:2 says: “It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.” I am one of the remaining Humanoids on planet Earth who can testify that the Creator Himself of the Universe does speak to Mankind.

Book excerpt: The 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Vancouver changed both the city and world sport forever. The Games will always be remembered for the "Miracle Mile," the much-anticipated showdown between the first two men to break the four-minute barrier, England's Roger Bannister and Australia's John Landy. But as the press focused the world's attention on Vancouver, and Bannister outpaced Landy in the stretch, fate found an even more dramatic story that seared itself into the memories of all who saw it. England's Jim Peters, the world-record holder in the marathon, entered Empire Stadium at the end of a brutal twenty-six-mile run, collapsing repeatedly before a medic stopped him two hundred yards from the finish line. These two stories brought the Games to a stirring conclusion on its final day - Saturday, August 7, 1954 - but there were many other extraordinary moments throughout the events. A group of novice UBC rowers pulled off the biggest upset in Games history on the Fraser Valley's Vedder Canal. Australia's Marjorie Jackson-Nelson, the fastest woman in history, blasted down the track one final time to remain undefeated in international competition, an unprecedented accomplishment before and since. Emmanuel Ifeajuna, a little-known high jumper from Nigeria, surprised the world when he won Africa's first-ever international gold medal. He later masterminded a bloody coup that plunged his nation into devastating civil war. Every single day offered up unbelievable tales of glory and grief. As one 1954 billboard boldly proclaimed, the Games were "a week you'll remember a lifetime "
