Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Innovations in technology and new therapies have changed the face of medicine in the last few decades. These include advances in fetal diagnosis (preimplantation genetics, chorionic villous sampling and amniocentesis), drugs that have been developed to treat unique conditions in neonates such as respiratory distress syndrome (surfactant) and pulmonary hypertension (inhaled nitric oxide), as well as technological advances and interventions resulting in diagnostic (ultrasounds and MRI) and therapeutic interventions (intrauterine transfusion to ECMO). Research in fertility treatments has resulted in test tube babies and cloned animals, and that has also fostered technological advances in diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. The primary purpose of Innovations in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine is to highlight these innovations in technology and therapy that have not only changed the way doctors deliver care to fetus and neonate but also reduced neonatal mortality thereby saving millions of lives in the process. These issues are addressed by the authors who are experts in their respective fields. the book will be valuable not only to healthcare providers but also to educators and policy makers.

Book Color Doppler 3D and 4D Ultrasound in Gynecology Infertility and Obstetrics

Download or read book Color Doppler 3D and 4D Ultrasound in Gynecology Infertility and Obstetrics written by Sanja Kupesic Plavsic and published by JAYPEE BROTHERS PUBLISHERS. This book was released on 2014-05-14 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Doody Rating: 3 stars: Over the last decade impressive improvements in computer and ultrasound technology have promoted a wide use of ultrasound in clinical practice. With the advent of color and power Doppler ultrasound, and more recently three- (3D) and four-dimensional (4D) ultrasound, research expansion in the field of human reproduction, obstetrics and gynecologic oncology has occurred. Ultrasound has simplified guided techniques such as oocyte collection and breast biopsy, but has also become an important technique in the assessment of the follicular growth and endometrial development, as well as in evaluation of the uterine and ovarian perfusion. Significant studies have been made in the gynecological application of Doppler sonography and screening for ovarian and uterine malignancy. In obstetrics, Doppler sonography has allowed unprecedented insight in the pathophysiology of human fetal development. In a relatively short period of time, 3D and 4D ultrasound has proved to be a useful clinical tool in almost all sections of gynecology and obstetrics. In this book the authors explain the significance of each of the discussed subjects in an effective way, by integrating important and updated information and illustrative examples. The contributors of this edition have made significant improvements, included updated information and a few unique illustrations. Each chapter has been reviewed and revised to focus on the clinicians needs in ultrasound practice. The educational impact of the book is further enhanced by adding a manual for sonographers and physicians entitled Clinical Sonographic Pearls that was created for better organization of important clinical presentation-based information."

Book Family Centred Perinatal Care

Download or read book Family Centred Perinatal Care written by Beverley Chalmers and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2017-04-03 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since childbirth became a medicalized - and usually hospitalized - event a century ago, women's and families' psychosocial needs have been relegated to a somewhat peripheral role within the clinically focussed hierarchy of medical care. This text reinstates psychosocial issues as a primary focus of care, together with clinical excellence. Family-centred care is a familiar phrase in today's maternity services, with professional guidelines and hospital policies including the term in their care protocols; however, few definitions, and no specific standards, for family-centred care exist. While all caregivers and care services are likely to define their care as sensitive to women's needs, and family-centred, the actual implementation of a family-centred approach - despite it being a current fashion in care - is still inadequate. This book clearly defines family-centred perinatal care, and outlines how truly family-centred care can, and should, be implemented, and how, and where, this has been done.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now more than ever, we have control over our fertility. Many forms of contraception are widely available to most of the population. An authoritative clinical reference, Contraception in the Third Millennium: A (R) evolution in Reproductive and Sexual Health examines the issues involved from all sides. The book covers the theoretical and practical aspects of present and future contraception and sexuality and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Topics include: reproductive health, progestins and antiprogestins, emergency contraception, family planning, contraception in perimenopause, optimizing contraceptive services, availability of abortion, strategies and prevention of STDs, and sexual health in adolescence and preventative behavior. It also touches on the relationship between sexuality, STDs, and contraception. The "Meet the Experts and Workshops" section provides answers to practical questions and the reality of contraception in many countries. We are now in the third generation of the contraceptive revolution. Although many methods have been available since the early part of this century, it is only the last three generations that have had a readily available source of contraception. The third generation has more choices, but they also face more issues, sooner, than previous generations. Despite the spread of contraception throughout the Western world, advances are still needed. Contraception in the Third Millennium: A (R) Evolution in Reproductive and Sexual Health provides a guide to new and recurring issues in achieving successful contraception and reproductive health care.
