Book Multiantenna Systems for MIMO Communications

Download or read book Multiantenna Systems for MIMO Communications written by Franco De Flaviis and published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers. This book was released on 2013-08-01 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advanced communication scenarios demand the development of new systemswhere antenna theory, channel propagation and communication models are seen from a common perspective as a way to understand and optimize the system as a whole. In this context, a comprehensive multiantenna formulation for multiple-input multiple-output systems is presented with a special emphasis on the connection of the electromagnetic and communication principles. Starting from the capacity for amultiantenna system, the book reviews radiation, propagation, and communicationmechanisms, paying particular attention to the vectorial, directional, and timefrequency characteristics of the wireless communication equation for low- and high-scattering environments. Based on the previous concepts, different space—time methods for diversity and multiplexing applications are discussed, multiantenna modeling is studied, and specific tools are introduced to analyze the antenna coupling mechanisms and formulate appropriate decorrelation techniques.Miniaturization techniques for closely spaced antennas are studied, and its fundamental limits and optimization strategies are reviewed. Finally, different practical multiantenna topologies for new communication applications are presented, and its main parameters discussed. A relevant feature is a collection of synthesis exercises that review the main topics of the book and introduces state-of-the art system architectures and parameters, facilitating its use either as a text book or as a support tool for multiantenna systems design. Book Performance Evaluation of Space Time Frequency Codes in Mimo Ofdm

Download or read book Performance Evaluation of Space Time Frequency Codes in Mimo Ofdm written by Gunjan Manik and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012-05 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High spectral efficiency and high transmission data rate are the challenging requirements of wireless broadband communications. The MIMO technology has rapidly gained in popularity due to its powerful performance-enhancing capabilities. Spatial diversity can be obtained by using multiple antennas and space-time codes. For future wireless broadband systems, OFDM is discussed as access scheme. OFDM provides an essentially flat fading channel for each subcarrier by insertion of a cyclic guard interval at each antenna. Therefore, space-time block codes are well suited to be applied in OFDM. We investigate SFBC for OFDM systems with multiple transmit antennas, where coding is applied in the frequency domain rather than in the time domain. In this thesis, performance of two coding techniques STBC and SFBC is analyzed in OFDM. In order to appreciate the performances offered by coding through space and frequency, different simulation scenarios have been proposed where variation of the modulation order , channel fading, antenna selection technique, receiver diversity and effect of power conditions have been considered.

Book Multi antenna OFDM Systems in the Presence of Phase Noise and Doubly selective Fading

Download or read book Multi antenna OFDM Systems in the Presence of Phase Noise and Doubly selective Fading written by Yu Zhang and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), which has been very attractive for future high rate wireless communications, is very robust to channel multipath fading effect while providing high transmission data rate with high spectral efficiency. Multiple antennas can be combined with OFDM to increase diversity gain and to improve spectral efficiency through spatial multiplexing and space-time coding (STC). This dissertation focuses on performance analysis and detection schemes of multi-antenna OFDM systems in the presence of phase noise and doubly-selective fading where channel is both time-selective and frequency-selective. In space-time coded OFDM (ST-OFDM), channel time variations cause not only intercarrier interference (ICI) among different subcarriers in one OFDM symbol, but also intertransmit-antenna interference (ITAI). We quantify the impact of time-selective fading on the performance of quasi-orthogonal ST-OFDM systems by deriving, via an analytical approach, the expressions of carrier-to-interference ratio (CIR) and signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR). We also evaluate the performance of five different detection schemes and show that all these schemes suffer from an irreducible error floor. Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antennas combined with OFDM are very attractive for high-data-rate communications. However, MIMO-OFDM systems are very vulnerable to time-selective fading. We apply frequency-domain correlative coding in MIMO-OFDM systems over doubly-selective fading channels and derive the analytical expression of CIR to demonstrate the effectiveness of correlative coding in mitigating ICI. When applied in fast fading channels, common ST-OFDM receivers usually suffer from an irreducible error floor. We apply frequency-domain correlative coding combined with a modified decision-feedback (DF) detection scheme with low complexity to effectively suppress the error floor of quasi-orthogonal ST-OFDM over fast fading channels. Similar to single-antenna OFDM, MIMO-OFDM suffers from significant performance degradation due to phase noise and time-selective fading. After characterizing the common phase error (CPE) caused by phase noise and ICI caused by phase noise as well as time-selective fading, we derive a minimum mean-squared error (MMSE)- based scheme to mitigate the effect of both phase noise and Doppler frequency shift. We also evaluate and compare the performance of various detection schemes combined with the proposed CPE mitigation scheme. Throughout the dissertation, theoretical performance analysis is always presented along with corroborating simulations.

Download or read book MIMO System Technology for Wireless Communications written by George Tsoulos and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-03 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For broadband communications, it was frequency division multiplexing. For optical communications, it was wavelength division multiplexing. Then, for all types of networks it was code division. Breakthroughs in transmission speed were made possible by these developments, heralding next-generation networks of increasing capability in each case. The basic idea is the same: more channels equals higher throughput. For wireless communications, it is space-time coding using multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) technology. Providing a complete treatment of MIMO under a single cover, MIMO System Technology for Wireless Communications assembles coverage on all aspects of MIMO technology along with up-to-date information on key related issues. Contributors from leading academic and industrial institutions around the world share their expertise and lend the book a global perspective. They lead you gradually from basic to more advanced concepts, from propagation modeling and performance analysis to space-time codes, various systems, implementation options and limitations, practical system development considerations, field trials, and network planning issues. This book was released on 2017-06-16 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The demand of different multimedia services and different internet supported applications on mobile devices requires a high speed data rate and good service of quality. This can be obtained by implementing multiple Antenna technology on both stations i.e. User terminal and base station with an appropriate coding technique, and on the other hand MIMO can fulfill 3G & 4G demand and standard with a combination of other techniques. The system's error performance is analyzed through simulation which showed the simulated results of Multi-Rate Resource Control (MRRC) scheme and Alamouti scheme are identical. And also the Bit Error Rate (BER) were checked for different MIMO systems. By improving the BER, we will get the better QoS.

Book Performance Analysis of Space time Trellis Coded MIMO OFDM Systems

Download or read book Performance Analysis of Space time Trellis Coded MIMO OFDM Systems written by Samet Yildiz and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: Space-time codes are a standout amongst the most prominent procedure utilized as a part of the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems in the advanced communication systems. While ordinary transmission between one transmit and one receive antenna is utilized, one can see neither diversity gain nor coding gain, which eventually implies that a critical change in the transmission cannot be observed. Space-time codes can be effectively connected through multiple transmit antennas and optional number of receive antennas. There are several approaches to provide diversity gain. The researches which are developed to achieve diversity gain by late 1990's are called as space-time block codes (STBC). Despite the fact that the STBC is anything but easy to execute, they do not provide any coding gain. Subsequently, so as to accomplish the coding gain other than the diversity gain, the space-time trellis codes (STTC) are connected all through this theory. STTC, which gives coding gain in regards to the number of the states, is then joined with the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems, which is a prominent transmission method to send orthogonal signals with no interference between the subcarriers. It is ultimately called as STTC-OFDM systems.

Book Performance Analysis of Practical Multi antenna OFDM Systems

Download or read book Performance Analysis of Practical Multi antenna OFDM Systems written by V. K. Varma Gottumukkala and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the second part, we analyze the ergodic capacity of multiple input single output (MISO)/ single input multiple output (SIMO)-OFDM systems with arbitrary antenna and channel tap correlations. Existing works in literature consider the Kronecker model of antenna and channel tap correlations for capacity analysis. However, the applicability of such a model does not hold for all practical scenarios. Here we assume a generalized correlation model and the Kronecker model is a special case of our model. We analyze the additional conditions beyond that needed by the Kronecker model for maximizing capacity and the ones that reduce capacity and derive a closed-form capacity expression. Finally, our results are validated using Monte-Carlo simulations.
