Book The Gospel in the Gospels Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Gospel in the Gospels Classic Reprint written by William Porcher Dubose and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-09 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Gospel in the Gospels The title of the present volume is intended to indicate that, while it aims to be an exposition of the whole Gospel of Jesus Christ, it does not purpose to be a whole or final exposition of that Gospel. It looks forward definitely to a further and fuller expression of it. We have here to do with the Gospel, not in its developed utterance as that of the New Testament or of the Church, but only so far as it is contained in our canonical Gospels or can by ourselves be deduced from them. My own position is that, while the Gospel as an act or fact is complete in Jesus Christ Himself, the rationale of its operation in human salvation is best interpreted and stated by St. Paul. My true objective point has therefore been the completer construction of the Gospel according to St. Paul, to be treated in a volume to follow the present one. That the epistles of St. Paul are an interpretation only, and not a transformation nor even an essential modification, of the Gospel of our Lord is - next to the hope of casting a single new ray of light upon the nature of the Gospel itself - the point which I have most at heart to prove in the end. Book The Gospel in the New Testament Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Gospel in the New Testament Classic Reprint written by Charles Harold Dodd and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-24 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Gospel in the New Testament The world, indeed, into which Christianity came was painfully aware of the need for salvation. Before the first Christian missionaries started out, zealous preachers of other faiths were abroad in the Roman Empire, offering their various remedies to the sick soul. Some of these remedies bore a curious family likeness to some of the most modern ways of salvation, and a brief survey of them will not lead us too far afield. The thoughts of men, in spite of all changes, tend to run in a comparatively small variety of channels; and after all, we are, in a broad View of the limitless sweep of history, not so very far removed even in time from these first-century seekers of truth. Book The Gospel of John Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Gospel of John Classic Reprint written by Edgar Johnson Goodspeed and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-26 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Gospel of John The Gospel of John is perhaps the best loved and most frequently read of any of the gospels. Recent scholarship has thrown much light upon the authorship and purpose of this gospel and the part which it played in the developing thought and life Of the early Christians. Investigation, although modifying some current views of this gospel, has added greatly to its value as a Christian document. Viewed in the light of its origin and purpose, it becomes replete with life, not only the life of the Master and his disciples, but with the intellectual and spiritual struggles Of the Christians of the hundred years following the death of Jesus. This course presents the gospel in the light of recent scholarship but simply and for the study of individuals and groups, in the home, church, or the com munity. It is one of the Outline bible-study Courses prepared by the American Institute of Sacred Literature, twelve similar courses being mentioned on a preceding page. This course follows the general method of all the series, giving a daily assignment for reading from the Bible, but requiring no books of reference. Book A New Gospel Classic Reprint

Download or read book A New Gospel Classic Reprint written by A. Fassler and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-14 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A New Gospel The Christ came to me one day that I was bowed down in sorrow over the sins and imperfections of our time. For in my youth I had dreamed of an ideal country, a Christian land, and 10, what I found all around me during twenty years of search, had so little of His Spirit that it seemed to me as a pagan land, where He was unknown. For, since my younger years, I tried to walk in His steps, as the shadow follows the substance, and, as I came nearer to Him, He came nearer to me, until He had His abode within my heart and was as one with me. When He abided with me and we had become more as one soul, when He had imparted to me some of His Spirit, He revealed Himself more and more. I had sowed in me the seeds of His Spirit and I reaped in return a consciousness like His. In time I became so as one with Him that I could almost see things as He would have seen them, and judge them with His judgment. Then we set out together in the walks of men, saw things as they were, and, in the silence of my conscience I heard His Spirit pronounce its judgment on our age and their shortcomings. I submitted to Him the burning questions of our time, our doubts and perplexities and, out in the world or in the silence of soul communions, He told me His opinions on them. He told me also of Himself, His mission and of the mistakes men had made about Him. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Gospel According to Saint Paul Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Gospel According to Saint Paul Classic Reprint written by William Porcher Dubose and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-24 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Gospel According to Saint Paul IN advocating and pressing any particular point of View, one is inevitably liable to press it unduly and at the expense of other points of View. In the quest of truth this danger ought not to be too much of a deter rent to either freedom of thought or boldness of expres sion. The ultimate aim of each one of us should be not to save ourselves from error but to advance the truth. We may safely rely upon it that our truth will in the end be accepted and our error corrected. If I had been too much afraid of going wrong I should have made no progress in growing right; who of us that has really thought or spoken may not say that of himself? For my own part, I have not merely tradi tionally believed but become personally convinced that there is a truth of the Scriptures and that there is a mind of the Church; and that each of these will take care of itself as against the infinite errors and vagaries of individual thinkers and writers. I have in my mind not only an implicit faith but a rational science or philosophy of these things, which at least satisfies myself and gives me security and rest from the fear. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Fifth Gospel Paul's Gospel is not in Luke, though it would be easy to Show that Luke had the same love for the Gentiles, which, however, Matthew also had, to say nothing of Mark and John. Luke limited his Gospel to the ascension of Jesus. (see Acts i, Why did not Paul mention the Lord's mir acle-working among the facts he gives about him? Probably because no one ever called it in question. He does specifically claim mir acle-working for the apostles and disciples, and even as one Of the regular ministries of the Spirit through them. He makes strongest possible assertion Of himself as a worker Of miracles, and all this carries with it the pre sumption that Jesus was a worker of signs and wonders. And Paul is more concerned for spiritual results in life and character, and glories most in presenting Jesus as perfect Savior.
