  • Pages : 29 pages

Download or read book Concierge Medicine written by Patricia Contreras and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concierge medicine has been changing the quality of healthcare since its introduction in the 1990s. This healthcare model has improved the views of both physicians and patients on the delivery of healthcare. Physicians are finding themselves overloaded with too many patients and little time for them all. Due to this, physicians have extended work hours in order to meet their patients' needs, which has decreased job satisfaction in healthcare providers. Not only are physicians dissatisfied, patients too are finding themselves unhappy with the delivery of their healthcare. The overload of patients has prompted long wait times in offices and short visits. With the introduction of concierge medicine, physicians and patients are reverted back to a higher quality of healthcare. Concierge practices promote little to no wait times along with longer, more personalized visits to meet patient needs. The issue surrounding concierge medicine is that it is not easily accessible to all. This systematic literature review aimed to examine what makes the concierge medicine model so popular. The results of this study show that patients and physicians establish stronger realtionships through concierge medicine which allows for better healthcare. The results further implicate that there is a need to expand access to concierge care for middle and lower class individuals, which can be accomplished through public insurance providers. The Affordable Care Act has played a role in expanding accessibility, however this may be in jeopardy as the current administration in office is looking to dismantle the act completely. Medicare has made strides in recent years to incorporate concierge care for its patients, resulting in a need for a policy implication that will incentivize concierge physicians to be enrolled under the list of Medicare physicians. A second policy implication is recommended to update the guidelines for Health Savings Accounts, created under the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act in 2003, in order to allow the funds saved to pay for concierge care. As concierge care continues to gain popularity, accessibility needs to be expanded in order to give patients the ability to access a higher quality form of healthcare that has proven to improve the view on healthcare for both patients and physicians.

Book Remaking the American Patient

Download or read book Remaking the American Patient written by Nancy Tomes and published by UNC Press Books. This book was released on 2016-01-06 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a work that spans the twentieth century, Nancy Tomes questions the popular--and largely unexamined--idea that in order to get good health care, people must learn to shop for it. Remaking the American Patient explores the consequences of the consumer economy and American medicine having come of age at exactly the same time. Tracing the robust development of advertising, marketing, and public relations within the medical profession and the vast realm we now think of as "health care," Tomes considers what it means to be a "good" patient. As she shows, this history of the coevolution of medicine and consumer culture tells us much about our current predicament over health care in the United States. Understanding where the shopping model came from, why it was so long resisted in medicine, and why it finally triumphed in the late twentieth century helps explain why, despite striking changes that seem to empower patients, so many Americans remain unhappy and confused about their status as patients today.
