Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A lively, clear explanation of the American healthcare reform movement from a noted expert—giving women the tools they need to demand fair and affordable coverage for all people Healthcare is one of America’s most dysfunctional and confusing industries, and women bear the brunt of the problem when it comes to both access and treatment. Women, who make 80 percent of healthcare decisions for their families, are disproportionately impacted by the complex nature of our healthcare system—but are also uniquely poised to fix it. Founder and CEO of Day Health Strategies Rosemarie Day wants women to recognize their trouble with accessing affordable care as part of a national emergency. Day encourages women throughout the country to share their stories and get involved, and she illustrates how a groundswell of activism, led by everyday women, could create the incentives our political leaders need to change course. Marching Toward Coverage gives women the clear information they need to move this agenda forward by breaking down complicated topics in an accessible manner, like the ACA (Affordable Care Act), preexisting conditions, and employer-sponsored plans. With more than 25 years working in healthcare strategy and related fields, Day helps the average American understand the business of national health reform and lays out a pragmatic path forward, one that recognizes healthcare as a fundamental human right.

Book The Pathless Path

Download or read book The Pathless Path written by Paul Millerd and published by Paul Millerd. This book was released on 2022-01-13 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Not all who wander are lost… Paul thought he was on his way. From a small-town Connecticut kid to the most prestigious consulting firm in the world, he had everything he thought he wanted. Yet he decided to walk away and embark on the "real work" of his life - finding the work that matters and daring to create a life to support that. This Pathless Path is about finding yourself in the wrong life, and the real work of figuring out how to live. Through painstaking experiments, living in different countries, and contemplating the deepest questions about life, Paul pieces together a set of ideas and principles that guide him from unfulfilled and burned out to a life he is excited to keep living. The Pathless Path is not a how-to book filled with “hacks”; instead, it is a vulnerable account of Paul’s journey from leaving the socially accepted “default path” towards another, one focused on doing work that matters, finding the others, and defining your own success. This book is an ideal companion for people considering leaving their jobs, embarking on a new path, dealing with the uncertainty of an unconventional path, or looking to improve their relationship with work in a fast-changing world. Reader feedback: “It’s a rare book in that it is tangentially about careers and being more focused and productive, but unlike almost every other book I have read about these topics, I finished this one and felt better about myself and my career.” “The themes are timeless. The content is expertly written. The advice is refreshingly non-prescriptive.” “If you have questioned your own path, or a nagging lack of intention in your choices you need this book. If you have felt a gradual loss of agency in your direction you need this book. You are in the grip of an invisible script that was not written for you.” “The writing is fantastic - Paul's writing is approachably poetic; a quick read that weaves together his own experience moving from a 'default path' overachiever to a 'pathless path' seeker of passion and curiosity, deep research into the history of work and collections of perspectives from years of podcasting, friendship, conferences, and meetings with other 'alternative path' life-livers."

Is there a way to transform the truly incurable into an advantage? Yes, there is a way! There is a way for you to overcome the adversity in your life—then break your cane! In Break Your Cane: Transforming Life’s Worst Challenges to Overcome Adversity, author Bob West details how difficult circumstances early in life were his best education. To survive early adversity, and even thrive because of it, he developed a philosophy of choosing a harder path for personal excellence and greater service. This harder path included using the taunts and ridicule from others to his advantage, turning disadvantages into advantages, and persisting when all seemed hopeless. Early difficulties prepared him for one of the biggest battles of his life—a 30-year struggle with several different chronic illnesses. Instead of giving up, West chose instead a harder path of researching medications, numerous types of diets, and many other remedies, until he found a cure for his incurable rheumatoid arthritis and other illnesses from which he suffered. He chose a harder path, found a cure, and now he shares his story with you. Inside, you’ll find not only his story, but examples from others who’ve chosen to take the harder path to becoming a better person and to serve others. Instead of simply giving up, they’ve persevered, becoming top athletes, affliction survivors, and leaders in history. They’ve been cured, made fascinating discoveries in science, and helped to create a better world around them. Let West and these examples of outstanding individuals inspire you to overcome your next challenge, whether it be medical, personal, educational, or goal-oriented. Choose the harder path to overcome adversity. Choose to overcome it for your own personal excellence and greater service.

Book Futbolera

  • Author : Brenda Elsey
  • Publisher : University of Texas Press
  • Release : 2019-05-21
  • ISBN : 1477310428
  • Pages : 371 pages

Download or read book Futbolera written by Brenda Elsey and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on 2019-05-21 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Latin American athletes have achieved iconic status in global popular culture, but what do we know about the communities of women in sport? Futbolera is the first monograph on women’s sports in Latin America. Because sports evoke such passion, they are fertile ground for understanding the formation of social classes, national and racial identities, sexuality, and gender roles. Futbolera tells the stories of women athletes and fans as they navigated the pressures and possibilities within organized sports. Futbolera charts the rise of physical education programs for girls, often driven by ideas of eugenics and proper motherhood, that laid the groundwork for women’s sports clubs, which began to thrive beyond the confines of school systems. Futbolera examines how women challenged both their exclusion from national pastimes and their lack of access to leisure, bodily integrity, and public space. This vibrant history also examines women’s sports through comparative case studies of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Mexico, and others. Special attention is given to women’s sports during military dictatorships of the 1970s and 80s as well as the feminist and democratic movements that followed. The book culminates by exploring recent shifts in mindset towards women’s football and dynamic social movements of players across Latin America.
