He wrote, Shaykh Ibra Fall told me: When I first met your father, Khadim Rasoul, this is what I said: I left my parents house only to find a Shaykh that has reached Allah and whoever follows him will reach Allah. I will find in that Shaykh, the light of Truth and that whoever is put inside such a light will be clean no matter how dirty the person may be. That Shaykh will have a short life (compared to that of the Prophets) but he will perform what the Prophets from Adam to Mohammed (PBUT) performed until everybody knows that the works of the Prophets is the truth. He will perform all the work of the Awliya (Saints / Friends of Allah) until everybody knows that their works are also true. If I do not find that Shaykh in the entire world, I will be working for his Mausoleum until we settle the Mouride path. Such a man is Baboul Mouridine, the Mouride Path... Serigne Touba had told Shaykh Ibra Fall: "This Dunya, I will not give you even a piece of hair." Shaykh Ibra Fall told him, "Please help me, don't show the reality of my spiritual station or give me anything in this world, which has the value of a piece of a hair. All I want is to be the best, to be above all in the next life at the Day of Judgment in front of Allah. " The blessings of Shaykh Ibra Fall that are known by the mortals are only from the grains of sand that touch his knees when he submitted himself to Khadim Rasoul.

In contrast to depictions that emphasize the importance of international networks and anti-modern reaction in twentieth-century Islamic reform, this book claims that, in West Africa, such movements were driven by local forces and constituted only the most recent round in a set of centuries-old debates about the best way for pious people to confront social injustice. It argues that traditional historical methods prevent an appreciation of Muslim intellectual history in Africa by misunderstanding the nature of information gathering during colonial rule and misconstruing the relationship between documents and oral history.

Fallou Ngom evaluates prevailing representations of the Muridiyya movement and offers alternative perspectives. He demonstrates how the Mur?ds used their written, recited, and chanted 'Ajami materials as an effective mass communication tool in conveying to the masses Bamba's poignant odyssey, doctrine, the virtues he stood for and cultivated among his followers-self-esteem, self-reliance, strong faith, work ethic, pursuit of excellence, determination, nonviolence, and optimism in the face of adversity-without the knowledge of the French colonial administration and many academics.
