Book From The Pastor s Pen Letters on Living Christ and Being Christ s Body

Download or read book From The Pastor s Pen Letters on Living Christ and Being Christ s Body written by Pastor Bert Baker and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2016-07-25 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do you get new Christians who do not know one another to work at building and growing relationships in a new Church? This is essential in a new Church because the teaching and training of the core group of believers becomes the nucleus of the Body of Christ. This is the obstacle Pastor Baker faced in planting a church in Newark, NJ. Although the people came from the same urban neighborhood, it did not appear these new believers had much in common. So Pastor Baker decided to write a monthly Bible-based letter on living for Christ and how to be the Church and do its work. He planned to write From the Pastor's Pen for a year or so to teach biblical truth and to develop bridges to build lasting Christian relationships. But this short-term project grew as new believers added addresses to the mailing list. Soon twenty families were fifty and then over one hundred. Believers made copies and passed them out at work. These monthly letters became the teaching materials for small-group Bible studies, and were used by missionaries in the Dutch West Indies. So from November of 1984 until June of 2014, a monthly letter was written. Pastor Baker's short-term project became a long-term ministry. With the help of brothers and sisters in the Newark Church, the letters in this book were selected so you can live Christ and be Christ's Body. May you grow in Christ and effectively be and do the work of the Church.

Download or read book Wise Church written by Scot McKnight and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-03-31 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Wise Church is about rethinking church cultures so they become more of a wisdom culture. The topics vary as widely as church life itself: letter writing as pastoral care, the work life of congregants, evangelism, music, church economics, spiritual formation as the pursuit of wisdom, racial justice, marriage, learning how to teach like Jesus, gospeling like the apostles, and the wise use of social media. These studies are by pastors and scholars pondering wisdom, but more than that, they are pondering the life we all live in a wise way. We and our churches need wisdom, not simply because we live in an ever-changing world, but because the God we worship is himself wise. Wise church cultures reflect the wisdom of God back into the world, a world looking for wisdom." With contributions from: Jeff Bannman Jeremy Berg Brandon Evans Pete Goodman David Johnston Ernest F. Book From the Heart of a Pastor J Alfred Smith Sr

Download or read book From the Heart of a Pastor J Alfred Smith Sr written by Martha C. Taylor and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2020-03-10 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book captures over three decades of Dr. Smith Sr’s prayers, pastor pens and sermon outlines. First, he demonstrates that the Bible is a lasting and sure foundation for powerful preaching. Secondly, Pastor Smith demonstrates that relevant preaching does not seek to hide God in techniques of popularity and hunger for quick success. Thirdly, Dr. Smith Sr., demonstrates that we cannot lead people to God with godless preaching and teaching. A commitment to the Gospel of Jesus Christ does not require us to despise, demean and disrespect other faith traditions. When Jesus healed he did not ask for birth certificates, nationality oaths ethnic or racial loyalty oaths. Jesus is an inclusive Redeemer and Liberator. This book is a must read for pastors, professors, parents, students and others who desire to grow in the knowledge of preaching, praying and applying God’s words to the deeper human rights struggle. The section on prayers reflect petitions to God for varying occasions; congregational prayers, public events, church anniversaries baby dedications, bereavements, sickness, intercessory prayers, weddings, funerals and a host of others. Using ordinary words, they reflect sincerity, simplicity and selflessness. Lastly, in the tradition of keeping in touch with the congregation, the Pastor Pen is a weekly bulletin Sunday writing that varies from current events, biblical subjects, and others challenges the church may be experiencing including financial appeals and a reminder that giving is a part of worshiping.
