When we give the tithe our bills are still due and our mortgage has foreclosed! First fruit must mean something else? Because it's not working for me I haven't received 100%; 40%; or 60%! Church, wake up! It's time for us to make those who wrong God's people, accountable for their deeds. I have heard so many preachers' say, as it is in the natural so it is in the spirit. So the fraud that was caused by Wall Street, Banks, Mortgage companies, Madoff, and the others that have been unveiled the same deception will be unveiled in the church for all to see, woe unto the pastors. Until we repent and get back to the Bible and read it! Woe unto us! Because many of us don't read the bible, for ourselves, we just accept what our pastors tell us as the true and living word of God, but even our pastors have their own agenda. Ministry in this country has become a multi-million dollar industry, anyone with a little knowledge of the bible, a booming voice, and stage presence can and will deceive you! Book Samson and the Pirate Monks

Download or read book Samson and the Pirate Monks written by Nate Larkin and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2007-02-18 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With no-holds-barred honesty and poignant storytelling, Nate Larkin introduces a model of community and friendship that is reinvigorating men's ministry across the country, a model he calls The Samson Society. Too many men see the biblical hero Samson as their model for manhood--a rugged individualist of the highest order. Yet, Samson's solitary successes were eventually overcome by moral weaknesses. Larkin, through the story of his own past and the stories of those in The Samson Society, offers a radical, refreshing alternative.

Book From Priest s Whore to Pastor s Wife

Download or read book From Priest s Whore to Pastor s Wife written by Marjorie Elizabeth Plummer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-22 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On 13 June 1525, Martin Luther married Katharina von Bora, a former nun, in a private ceremony officiated by city preacher Johann Bugenhagen. Whilst Luther was not the first former monk or Reformer to marry, his marriage immediately became one of the iconic episodes of the Protestant Reformation. From that point on, the marital status of clergy would be a pivotal dividing line between the Catholic and Protestant churches. Tackling the early stages of this divide, this book provides a fresh assessment of clerical marriage in the first half of the sixteenth century, when the debates were undecided and the intellectual and institutional situation remained fluid and changeable. It investigates the way that clerical marriage was received, and viewed in the dioceses of Mainz and Magdeburg under Archbishop Albrecht of Brandenburg from 1513 to 1545. By concentrating on a cross-section of rural and urban settings from three key regions within this territory - Saxony, Franconia, and Swabia - the study is able to present a broad comparison of reactions to this contentious issue. Although the marital status of the clergy remains perhaps the most identifiable difference between Protestant and Roman Catholic churches, remarkably little research has been done on how the shift from a "celibate" to a married clergy took place during the Reformation in Germany or what reactions such a move elicited. As such, this book will be welcomed by all those wishing to gain greater insight, not only into the theological debates, but also into the interactions between social identity, governance, and religious practice.

Book Sex and the Supremacy of Christ

Download or read book Sex and the Supremacy of Christ written by John Piper and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2005-06-14 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bible has a way of shocking us. If Americans could still blush, we might blush at the words, "Rejoice in the wife of your youth, a lovely deer, a graceful doe. Let her breasts fill you at all times with delight; be intoxicated always in her love" (Proverbs 5:18-19). But, of course, sin always tries to trash God's gifts. So we can't just celebrate sex for what God made it to be; we have to fight what sin turned it into. The contributors to this unique volume encourage you to do both: celebrate and struggle. This book has something for all-men and women, married and single-from contributors like John Piper, C. J. and Carolyn Mahaney, Mark Dever, Al Mohler, Carolyn McCulley, and others.

Book Clinical Management of Sex Addiction

Download or read book Clinical Management of Sex Addiction written by Patrick Carnes and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-06-17 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first comprehensive volume of the clinical management of sex addiction. Collecting the work of 28 leaders in this emerging field, the editors provide a long-needed primary text about how to approach treatment with these challenging patients. The book serves as an excellent introduction for professionals new to the field as well as serving as a useful reference tool. The contributors are literally the pioneers of one of the last frontiers of addiction medicine and sex therapy. With a growing awareness of sex addiction as a problem, plus the advent of cybersex compulsion, professional clinicians are being confronted with sexual compulsion with little clinical or academic preparation. This is the first book distilling the experience of the leaders in this emerging field. With a focus on special populations, it also becomes a handy problem-solving tool. Readable, concise, and filled with useful interventions, it is a key text for a problem clinicians must be able to identify. It is destined to be a classic reference.

Book Biblical Porn

  • Author : Jessica Johnson
  • Publisher : Duke University Press
  • Release : 2018-04-19
  • ISBN : 082237160X
  • Pages : 152 pages

Download or read book Biblical Porn written by Jessica Johnson and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2018-04-19 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between 1996 and 2014, Mark Driscoll's Mars Hill Church multiplied from its base in Seattle into fifteen facilities spread across five states with 13,000 attendees. When it closed, the church was beset by scandal, with former attendees testifying to spiritual abuse, emotional manipulation, and financial exploitation. In Biblical Porn Jessica Johnson examines how Mars Hill's congregants became entangled in processes of religious conviction. Johnson shows how they were affectively recruited into sexualized and militarized dynamics of power through the mobilization of what she calls "biblical porn"—the affective labor of communicating, promoting, and embodying Driscoll's teaching on biblical masculinity, femininity, and sexuality, which simultaneously worked as a marketing strategy, social imaginary, and biopolitical instrument. Johnson theorizes religious conviction as a social process through which Mars Hill's congregants circulated and amplified feelings of hope, joy, shame, and paranoia as affective value that the church capitalized on to grow at all costs.

Book Prostitutes and Polygamists

Download or read book Prostitutes and Polygamists written by David T. Lamb and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2015-09-01 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jacob and Solomon were polygamists. Tamar and Rahab were prostitutes. What are polygamists and prostitutes doing on the pages of Holy Scripture? And God told the prophet Hosea to marry a prostitute. What about Cain—did he really marry his sister? Abraham did, and he was also a polygamist. Lot offered his daughters up for rape, David committed adultery (or rape?) and the Bible calls both men righteous. Love, Old Testament style, was bizarre. As readers of the Old Testament encounter these weird, confusing, and horrific “love” stories they ask, “What’s up with sex in the Old Testament?” The church often ignores the R-rated bits of the Bible, so it’s hard for people to find answers to their disturbing questions about sex in Scripture, which can lead people to give up on God and God’s word. However, these stories were included in the Bible for a reason, to reveal an even more shocking “love” story. When humans behave badly, God behaves graciously. God not only forgives people with sexual baggage, but also redeems their lives and includes them in his mission. God’s word records their story to benefit us. Just as sex was not often ideal in the Old Testament, it’s often not ideal today. Instead of ignoring these stories, Prostitutes and Polygamists engages, discusses, and learns from them.

Book Letters To A Young Evangelical

Download or read book Letters To A Young Evangelical written by Tony Campolo and published by Basic Books. This book was released on 2008-07-31 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Named by Christianity Today as one of the twenty-five most influential preachers of the last fifty years, best-selling author Tony Campolo has spent decades calling on readers and audiences around the world to live their faith through committed activism. A tireless crusader for human rights and the eradication of world poverty, Campolo is a "Red Letter" Christian -- he reminds us that when Jesus spoke, he spoke of social justice. But the Religious Right and social conservatives have hijacked His message in the name of Republican politics. They have corrupted the faith by ignoring the true message of Christ and focusing instead on narrow "wedge" issues to win political campaigns. In Letters to a Young Evangelical, Campolo calls on evangelicals of all ages to reject the false pieties of the Religious Right. With his trademark candor and wit, he offers sage advice to seekers who are trying to live their faith in a modern world that is politically polarized and predominantly secular. He is unafraid to touch on the hot-button topics that divide believers in America and around the world: abortion, gay rights, war, capital punishment, feminism, and the environment. An activist, a visionary, and a man of deep faith, Tony Campolo offers guidance not only for young evangelicals, but for seekers of all ages and faiths.
