Book excerpt: “Brothers, pray for us.” (1 Thessalonians 5:25). The Apostle Paul’s letters are filled with references to prayer—requests for prayer from the churches, prayers for them, and teaching and encouragement that God was working through these prayers. Pastors and church leaders know that prayer is powerful and it must be a priority in any ministry, yet many pastors struggle to maintain an active prayer life. Even more difficult is the challenge of praying for the flock, lifting up the needs of the people God has placed in your care. The Practical Shepherding series of guides provides pastors and ministry leaders with practical help to do the work of pastoral ministry in a local church. In Pray for the Flock, pastors Brian Croft and Ryan Fullerton provide biblical encouragement, practical advice, and helpful suggestions that will help busy pastors effectively pray for their people and care for their church through the ministry of intercession.

Book Liberating Ministry from the Success Syndrome

Download or read book Liberating Ministry from the Success Syndrome written by R. Kent Hughes and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2008-01-07 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every year thousands of God's servants leave the ministry convinced they are failures. Years ago, in the midst of a crisis of faith, Kent Hughes almost became one of them. But instead he and his wife Barbara turned to God's Word, determined to learn what God had to say about success and to evaluate their ministry from a biblical point of view. This book describes their journey and their liberation from the "success syndrome"-the misguided belief that success in ministry means increased numbers. In today's world it is easy to be seduced by the secular thinking that places a number on everything. But the authors teach that true success in ministry lies not in numbers but in several key areas: faithfulness, serving, loving, believing, prayer, holiness, and a Christlike attitude. Their thoughts will encourage readers who grapple with feelings of failure and lead them to a deeper, fuller understanding of success in Christian ministry. This book was originally published by Tyndale in 1987 and includes a new preface.

Book Prayer Points for Pastors

Download or read book Prayer Points for Pastors written by Audrey L. Dowling and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2016-05-24 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In November 2013, Pastor Teddy Parker was found dead by his wife, Larrinecia Parker, in the driveway of their home with a "self-inflicted gunshot wound" hours after he had sent her and his two daughters ahead of him to church, then failed to show up. It was later revealed that he had been battling manic depression until his death. Since that time, over 30more pastors have committed suicide. These men and women of God face many challenges that could potentially affect every aspect of their lives. As the Body of Christ, most of us have not been cultured to automatically pray for our pastors. Pastors dont always ask for prayers and many members may not feel comfortable praying for them. We need a renewed culture where prayer for the pastor is encouraged and taught. Pastors need to have specific, anointed, and focused prayer going on for them regularly. Prayer Points for Pastors: A Tool for Pastors and Their Intercessors will help both pastors and their intercessors alike by offering prayer points that may be important to pray for or about for pastors.

Book The Only Prayer I ll Ever Pray Let My People Go

Download or read book The Only Prayer I ll Ever Pray Let My People Go written by Donald R. Wright and published by Dog Ear Publishing. This book was released on 2009-11 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Only Prayer I'll Ever Pray: Let My People Go is a stirring call for blacks in America to critically examine their loyalty and dedication to religion and to begin adapting a lifestyle centered on rational thinking. It is time to break the chains of mental bondage caused by religious dogma. This book is a compelling presentation of practical reasons using a common sense approach that encourages blacks in America to disregard their need for religion. It provides a perspective on the harmful influences of religion. Author Donald R. Wright addresses the effects organized religion, primarily Christianity, has had on blacks in America from slavery to the present. He gives a brief but concise explanation as to how slaves were converted to Christianity. He has decoded this Matrix called religion. This book presents the case as an advocate for an alternative view. The author explains a part of his life's journey that began in 2002 and how it brought forth significant changes and new interests. The book explores questions many Christians have wanted to ask, but are afraid, or if certain ones are asked, they are told to just have faith. In 2004, after another disturbing church experience, this author made a commitment to be a more knowledgeable Christian in lieu of being a handicapped Christian; totally dependent upon pastors, preachers, and teachers for interpretation and instruction regarding the Bible. This commitment lead to a discovery of the many contradictions in the Bible. A contradiction makes truth difficult to attain. Further study lead to a thorough evaluation of Chistianity. This book provides compelling definitions of religion; covers the mis-education of Christians; religious loyalty of blacks; the influence of preachers and the mega church; and black men and the church. It challenges the so-called moral authority of religion and the deprivation of children having the freedom to choose a religion or reject religion in its totality. It is a quest to invigorate thoughts that will move our society toward positive change. Donald R. Wright, former deacon in a Baptist church, has been on a truth-seeking journey regarding religion and its practices for the past five years. He graduated from Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and is a professional engineer. He currently owns an engineering consulting firm in Houston, Texas. Wright and his wife have been married for 29 years and they have one daughter. He is a native of Fayette, Alabama.

Download or read book Liturgies from Below written by Claudio Carvalhaes and published by Abingdon Press. This book was released on 2020-08-04 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It’s been said that prayer is the vocabulary of faith. This book offers a wealth of resources from forgotten places to help us create a new vocabulary for worship and prayer, one that is located amidst the poor and the major issues of violence and destruction around the world today. It is a collection of prayers, songs, rituals, rites of healing, Eucharistic and baptismal prayers, meditations and art from four continents: Asia-Pacific Islands, Africa, Americas, and Europe. Liturgies from Below is the culmination of a project organized by the Council for World Mission (CWM) during 2018-2019. Approximately 100 people from four continents worked with CWM, collaborating to create indigenous prayers and liturgies expressing their own contexts, for sharing with their communities and the rest of the world. The project was called “Re-Imagining Worship as Acts of Defiance and Alternatives in the Context of Empire”. The author and others spent weeks living in each of four communities for several weeks/months, getting to know the people, and then facilitating the people’s own creation of prayers and liturgies. The author, other scholars, pastors, artists, activists and students all came from radically different ethnicities, races, sexualities, churches and Christian theologies. The people in each location were poor, living in very challenging communities, living in oppressive and seemingly hopeless situations. After some time, they wrote prayers and stories of their experience trying to live the Christian faith in utterly abandoned places. What we have here is an immensely rich and varied collection of liturgical sources from various communities dealing with issues of violence, immigration/refugees, drugs, land grabbing, war on the poor, attack on women, militarization, climate change, and so on.
