Book The Passage from Boyhood to Manhood

Download or read book The Passage from Boyhood to Manhood written by David R. Grimm and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2010-03 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At about the same time in my life that I became a father, I learned the principle that masculinity bestows masculinity. However, since I did not learn this principle until I was almost 40 years old, I grew up struggling mightily in my own masculine identity and maturity. So I also knew from experience how critically important it was for me to fulfill my responsibility in passing along this principle to my two sons, Jonah and Jacob. Therefore, I created a list of seven statements of truth that encompassed what I wanted to teach my sons about becoming and living as a man, an authentic man, the kind of godly man that is described in the Bible. I began telling my sons these truths every night at an early age so they would become engrained in them, as part of their very essence, and my boys would never doubt them. I also spent years preparing for the time when I would elaborate on the full meaning of each truth with my sons, as part of a day of celebration of their entry into manhood. Those years of preparation became this book, which I published to help other fathers (or father-figures/mentors) train their sons (or any boy) how to become a real man. My hope is that this book will be a blessing and an encouragement to every boy who receives it as he enters into (and lives out) authentic manhood.

Book The Crossing Rite of Passage from Boyhood to Manhood

Download or read book The Crossing Rite of Passage from Boyhood to Manhood written by Richard Rupp and published by Waypoint Books. This book was released on 2018-06-04 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every boy's destiny is manhood. The Young Men's Manual will help boys arrive there. The Crossing Rite of Passage from Boyhood to Manhood trains boys to become Christian men of character and faith. The Young Men's Manual is a companion book to The Mentor's Manual for the fathers and mentors. Each father and mentor needs a copy of The Mentor's Manual, while each boy needs his own copy of the Young Men's Manual. Just as Major League Baseball players never start a new season without spring training-neither should boys. Yet most boys start their adult lives as men without a day of training on manhood. Boys need mentoring more than ever today to prepare them as men. They need training to build character qualities like commitment, responsibility, and self-control. Throughout time and throughout the world, rites of passage have transformed boys into men through training and ritual. Post-modern culture no longer offers this training. Boys are on their own today, and millions of them are drifting toward a shipwreck in their lives, relationships and future marriages. Boys are falling behind girls in education at every level. 42% of college and graduate students are male today. Boys are twice as likely to abuse alcohol, three times more likely to be drug addicts, and five times more likely to kill themselves. Pornography is one more addiction. With fatherlessness at epidemic levels, boys of every race and social level are more desperate than ever for belonging and guidance from older men. 85% of men in prison are fatherless sons. Their hurt, anger and lack of moral guidance put them behind bars-two million of them. If only they had been mentored and loved by older men. Prisons would be emptied in half. The fatherless cycle would also be broken. The Crossing Rite of Passage from Boyhood to Manhood: Young Men's Manual, includes most of the content of the Mentor's Manual, and more. Both Manuals include; A History of Male Rites of Passage, Six Lessons in Manhood, A Code of Honor, Good Deed Project, Your Role in God's Epic History, Outdoor Adventure Challenge, Initiation into Manhood Fire Ceremony, worksheets and reviews. Like the Jewish Bar Mitzvah, the ages for the boys' training can start at thirteen, but the training applies to all boys up to seventeen-any time before graduation from high school. While a father and son can read through these books together, a Mentor Team of five to seven fathers is recommended to train a small group of boys. Manhood is every boy's destiny. This training program will set them on course to get there.

Book The Crossing Rite of Passage from Boyhood to Manhood Mentor s Manual

Download or read book The Crossing Rite of Passage from Boyhood to Manhood Mentor s Manual written by Richard Rupp and published by . This book was released on 2018-08-22 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Major League Baseball players never start a new season without spring training. Neither should boys. Yet most boys start their adult lives as men without a day of training on manhood. Boys need mentoring more than ever today to become men of character, faith and self-control. They need training to build character qualities like commitment, responsibility, integrity and service. They need caring men and fathers that will invest their time and effort to coach and mentor them into manhood. Throughout time and throughout all cultures on earth, rites of passage have transformed boys into men through training and ritual. Post-modern culture no longer offers this vital training. Boys are on their own today, and millions of them are drifting south toward a shipwreck in their lives, relationships and future marriages. Boys are falling behind girls in all education levels. They numb their pain inside with addictions to alcohol, drugs, porn and sex. And with fatherlessness at epidemic levels, boys of every race and social level are desperate for belonging and guidance with older men. The Crossing Rite of Passage gives boys the training, coaching and belonging they need from caring men in their lives. The book offers a complete spring training for manhood. The Mentor's Manual equips a Mentor Team of caring fathers and men with everything they need to build their boys into great Christian men. Each Mentor needs a copy of this Mentor's Manual along with the companion copy of the Young Men's Manual for each boy. Both manuals include; A History of Male Rites of Passage, Six Mentor Lessons in Manhood, A Code of Honor, Good Deed Project, Knowing the Christian Faith, Outdoor Adventure Challenge, Initiation into Manhood Fire Ceremony, and much more. Like the Jewish Bar Mitzvah, the ages of the boys can start at thirteen, but the training applies to all boys up to seventeen. All boys need this Rite of Passage before they graduate from high school. Invite some other men and fathers to get a group of boys together of the same ages. If you feel unprepared to be a Mentor, don't worry. The Mentor's Manual has three structured lessons just for the Mentor Team to equip themselves before training the boys. Both the men and the boys will grow in their faith and character from their training. Manhood is every boy's destiny. The Crossing Rite of Passage will set boys on course to arrive there.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gender roles are nowhere more prominent than in war. Yet contentious debates, and the scattering of scholarship across academic disciplines, have obscured understanding of how gender affects war and vice versa. In this authoritative and lively review of our state of knowledge, Joshua Goldstein assesses the possible explanations for the near-total exclusion of women from combat forces, through history and across cultures. Topics covered include the history of women who did fight and fought well, the complex role of testosterone in men's social behaviours, and the construction of masculinity and femininity in the shadow of war. Goldstein concludes that killing in war does not come naturally for either gender, and that gender norms often shape men, women, and children to the needs of the war system. lllustrated with photographs, drawings, and graphics, and drawing from scholarship spanning six academic disciplines, this book provides a unique study of a fascinating issue.

Book Man Maker Project

Download or read book Man Maker Project written by Chris Bruno and published by Resource Publications (OR). This book was released on 2015-02-23 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ""Father"" is a verb, and fathering is the highest calling of God on men. Man Maker Project is a guide for fathers to intentionally usher their sons into godly manhood. Now more than ever, the reality of unfinished men confronts us at every turn. Without intentional fathering, a boy's core question--Am I a man?--forever echoes in his soul. Every boy needs to hear his father's clear ""yes"" in response. While many fathers know they should do something for their maturing sons, they have little idea how to create such an initiatory process. Man Maker Project offers a practical roadmap that equips fathers to create a unique, modern-day masculine initiation experience for their sons. Rather than a single event or ceremony, fathers can guide their boys through a yearlong process, with the support of a cadre of hand-selected men. This book also challenges fathers to investigate their own stories, as God's mutually redemptive design is for us to be fathered ourselves as we father our sons. Through this modern-day rites of passage process, fathers fulfill their calling, sons find their footing, and society receives solid men ready to strongly and kindly restore the world. For the back cover: ""From incarceration to abuse to just plain missed opportunities, so many boys in our country become 'chronological men' who never arrive at manhood. Chris Bruno has given us the kind of book to carry into the terrain where boys become men. This book is for fathers, mentors, grandfathers, teachers, and anyone who cares about even just one boy."" --Keith Anderson, President, The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology, Seattle, WA ""Chris Bruno has given men a great gift in Man Maker Project. This is a stunning work, borne of Chris's own story and his passion for his son. It is a feast of narratives that prove the struggle into manhood is not only worth it, but can display the kindness of God. This is a meaty feast, worthy of all men and fledgling men."" --Jan Meyers Proett, author of The Allure of Hope For the frontmatter: ""For centuries, men in most cultures knew they had a sacred responsibility to guide the boys of their community into healthy manhood. This practice is largely unknown in our own culture. Most men intuitively know they want to pass on some significant teaching about masculinity to their boys, but they have no idea what. In Man Maker Project, Chris Bruno invests his own passion, insight, and experience into this crucial topic. He provides tangible, long-term, meaningful experiences that dads will immediately connect with and use. This book is truly a gift to those boys, their dads, and our culture."" --Craig Glass, president of Peregrine Ministries, Colorado Springs, CO ""Man Maker Project is an answer to many fathers's prayers. 'How do I lead my son into becoming a man?' is a question I've heard from men for many years. I now have a book I will enthusiastically recommend to all the fathers I know. Chris not only outlines a practical path for fathers to follow, but he also reveals how fathers can step into the fullness of who they are as men. You will be enlightened, inspired, and connected to God's powerful plan for you as a father. I'm excited for the many sons who will become men of God through the influence of this important book."" --Bob Hudson, founder and director of Men at the Cross Ministries, Golden, CO ""Every man should read Man Maker Project because it speaks into the struggles and doubts of all men. As a pastor and father of two pre-teen boys, I found myself challenged and provoked. It is here that most books on manhood end, but Chris goes further to give practical steps for creating a learning and experiential environment for sons. This book has given me the tools to be a better man and a better father."" --Brent Rood, pastor at Seed Church in Lynnwood, WA, and founding member of 3Strand Church Network ""I knew from experience that Chris Bruno is a fine therapist. He gently and profoundly guided me thr

Book The Men from the Boys

Download or read book The Men from the Boys written by Ray Raphael and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In other times and places the passage from boyhood to manhood was dramatized and facilitated by initiation rites. In ritualized fashion, the complex problems of personal development were translated into clear and concrete tasks. But in the dazzling variety of modern America there is no universal test or ceremony that bestows manhood: each male must find a group with its special initiations, or devise an initiation of his own. He may climb mountains, play football, join the army, pledge fraternities, impress the girls, and get drunk with the guys. But where do these free-style initiations lead in the end? To find out, Ray Raphael conducted in-depth interviews with one hundred American males ranging from a Mr. America body-building to a practitioner of witchcraft, from a “right stuff” fighter pilot to a draft dodger, from a self-proclaimed Don Juan to a “superdad.” The Men from the Boys is the first and only book-length study of contemporary simulations of classical male initiations. The results of this study are unsettling. Initiations today function more as tests to determine who can make the grade than as educational tools that encourage the development of all young men. In the absence of inclusive rituals, Raphael’s subjects struggle to overcome doubts as they negotiate their own paths to maturity. Their personal tales, told with dramatic and emotional intensity, speak to all American males who find themselves torn between a unisex modernity and more archaic notions of masculinity.

Book excerpt: Two Journeys to Manhood; Rediscover The Power of a Rite of Passage for Your Son. When does a boy become a man? Seems like an easy question, yet most men, if they are honest, don't know exactly when they moved from boyhood into manhood. Historically this wouldn't even be a discussion as most cultures actively prepared their sons to be men and then at an appointed time blessed them as men. Why is it that we seemed to have lost our way when it comes to intentionally preparing our sons to be men? The book is written for parents, grandparents, and mentors who are interested in actively preparing a boy to become a good man. Evan Hanson shares his personal story, Two Journeys to Manhood; Rediscovering the Power of a Rite of Passage for Your Son, of how he answered the question about manhood for himself and then how he actively prepared his son to be a man that culminated with a rite of passage. The book is written in a first person story format that is compelling and to the point. Evan is a Marriage and Family Therapist and President of Wild Hope Legacy.
