Book The Pain Principle Relationships and Reconciliation

Download or read book The Pain Principle Relationships and Reconciliation written by George Skoglund and published by Author House. This book was released on 2014-04 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To overcome our dependence on systematic sins for relief from emotional pain, we must avoid reoccurring emotional pain that opens separation from God. We prevent reoccurring emotional pain from happening by replacing emotional disabilities with emotional abilities. Emotional disabilities from adverse reactions to emotional injuries include hate, unresolved grief, unprovoked anger, impatience, meanness, evil intentions, unfaithfulness, harshness, and undisciplined behavior. The fruit of the Holy Spirit are the emotional abilities that we need to nurture God-pleasing priorities, values, and behavior. Emotional abilities prevent self-serving ego, anger, and greed from disrupting fellowship with God. The fruit of the Holy Spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. When we have God-pleasing emotional abilities, our emotional and spiritual growth experiences overcome adverse reactions to emotional injuries. The emotional injuries continue to occur, but our response as followers of Jesus Christ avoids reoccurring emotional pain. We experience emotional renewal that defeats emotional pain when our love for God becomes the humility and compassion we show in our relationships with others.

Divorce seemed inevitable for the Wilsons, but starting that night, God began to reveal to Dave and Ann the most overlooked secret of getting the marriage we are looking for: a horizontal marriage relationship just doesn't work until your vertical relationship with Christ is first. Written in a highly relatable dialogue between both husband and wife, Vertical Marriage will guide you toward building a vibrant relationship at every level, giving you the tools you need to embrace: Effective communication Fair conflict True romance A deeper connection Through their unique perspectives, Dave and Ann share an intimate, sometimes hilarious, and at times deeply poignant narrative of one couple's journey to reconnecting with God and discovering the joy and power of a vertical marriage.

Download or read book The End of Memory written by Miroslav Volf and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2021-01-12 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the Christianity Today Book Award in Christianity and Culture How should we remember atrocities? Should we ever forgive abusers? Can we not hope for final reconciliation, even if it means redeemed victims and perpetrators spending eternity together? We live in an age that insists that past wrongs—genocides, terrorist attacks, bald personal injustices—should never be forgotten. But Miroslav Volf here proposes the radical idea that letting go of such memories—after a certain point and under certain conditions—may actually be a gift of grace we should embrace. Volf’s personal stories of persecution and interrogation frame his search for theological resources to make memories a wellspring of healing rather than a source of deepening pain and animosity. Controversial, thoughtful, and incisively reasoned, The End of Memory begins a conversation that we avoid to our great detriment. This second edition includes an appendix on the memories of perpetrators as well as victims, a response to critics, and a James K. A. Smith interview with Volf about the nature and function of memory in the Christian life.

Book Linking Arms Linking Lives

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among the various lines drawn between people in the church--male and female, young and old, black and white, rich and poor, Republican and Democrat--there is the line between the urban and the suburban. The stereotypes of the edgy, socially active, multicultural urban Christian and the middle-class, comfortable, upwardly mobile suburban Christian mix fact and fiction. Linking Arms, Linking Lives looks beyond stereotypes and makes a compelling case for partnership that crosses urban and suburban for effective ministry among the poor. Drawing from a growing network of development practitioners, pastors, and theologians, this book focuses on the experiences of partnership between urban and suburban entities to provide both theological foundations and practical guidelines for those who desire to partner effectively. All who want to find viable ways to help the poor will welcome this thoughtful and hope-filled book. Includes a Foreword by Noel Castellanos.

Book Rebirthing into Androgyny

Download or read book Rebirthing into Androgyny written by Berenice Andrews and published by BalboaPress. This book was released on 2012-11-14 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In these interesting times, when many people are searching for spiritual nourishment, this book is intended to be a means of providing it. Rebirthing Into Androgyny: Your Quest For Wholeness, And Afterward offers to the hungry ones a familiar yet totally different feast. While it sets forth an already-established metaphysics, it also presents a radical new ideaone that has been implicit in that spiritual thought but unavailable until now and the new awareness associated with quantum physics. In other words, while this book provides soul searchersalso known as learnerswith an ages-old means of generating a fundamental inner change (a rebirthing), it also provides a new, living prototype of what is being reborn. Thus, a persons rebirthing is both a gestation and a labor (a quest) producing an ever-increasing knowing (gnosis), which gradually becomes being that can finally merge with the Beloved/Self. And the new, living prototype is that of the human soul, not as what a person has but as what a person is: a creative energy being who generates its own bodies out of its soul substanceits creative consciousness energyby means of its archetypal human energy system, while always being guided by its nucleus of divinity. In this book, which is a textbook for soul searchers, all of this transformative change is offered, explored and explained in a series of carefully-crafted lessons lovingly taught by a shamanic teacher/healer in a stone circle classroom, the ancient site of a modern teaching. There is a grand feast awaiting!

The International IDEA Handbook on Reconciliation after Violent Conflict presents a range of tools that can be, and have been, employed in the design and implementation of reconciliation processes. Most of them draw on the experience of people grappling with the problems of past violence and injustice. There is no "right answer" to the challenge of reconciliation, and so the Handbook prescribes no single approach. Instead, it presents the options and methods, with their strengths and weaknesses evaluated, so that practitioners and policy-makers can adopt or adapt them, as best suits each specific context. Book excerpt: We have all experienced a disconnect between God's promises to us and our everyday reality. We wait, without understanding why. We want to know God's plan so that we can trust it--but God so often hides his plan so that we will trust him. What can we do in the meantime as we are waiting for an answer, a change, or a miracle? With deep compassion, Wayne Stiles helps readers understand why God makes them wait. Unpacking the Old Testament story of Joseph, Stiles shows readers how to find comfort and opportunity in the time between God's promises and his answers, revealing the perspective-altering truth that sometimes when we think we are waiting on God, he is actually waiting on us. Anyone who has felt a disconnect between God's promises and their reality, who doesn't know what God wants them to do next, or who struggles with the brokenness of their world will find in Wayne Stiles a wise and trustworthy guide to finding peace in the pauses.

When a person hurts, they often look to God. Several pathfinders give new light from their specialties, each one speaking powerfully, uniquely, and artfully from decades of experience. Dr. Amos Yong’s article on disability forwards the amazingly helpful term, “temporarily able-bodied.” Greek Orthodox Dr. Vasileios Thermos and Roman Catholic Dr. Robert Fastiggi enlighten next to the powerful testaments of Professor Godfrey Harold on South Africa and Dr. Samuel Yonas Deressa on Ethiopia. Each weathered author contributes universal insights into the grace of our great God and challenges pastors throughout the Christian world to kindly consider the heart of the afflicted. These finely hewn stones can be used by anyone in the ministry to sharpen their serve. Mattis and Maness offer this third collection from Testamentum Imperium with a prayer that these will open new avenues of sensitivity to the hearts and souls of those in travail and aid those who are called by God to serve those in pain.
