It shares the viewpoint that a pageant is more of a tool for training and developing a young girl or contestant. It expresses the idea that pageants are really not about a crown but a preparation for life. The book is also about family, and how each member plays an important role in helping out at the pageant. It gives pointers to enhance the family as well as the contestant during the different stages of the competition. The book also covers the many aspects of what a pageant should be about. The two main expressions and goals within the book are that of communication and personal development. The Pageant Dad brings to life what a pageant experience should be about. The reader will learn the dos and dont's of a pageant and how to communicate and share the pageant as a family event. The book teaches important life skills, useful long after the lights of a pageant go out! The Pageant Dad is a wonderful look at the world of pageantry and the magical world beyond it.

Book Nuts Squirrels and Knotholes in the Family Tree

Download or read book Nuts Squirrels and Knotholes in the Family Tree written by Dan Steinbeck and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-12-13 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Book Summary Nuts, Squirrels, and Knotholes in the Family Tree Many families have funny stories, and poignant moments passed through generations. Often, these stories are lost, because they arent written down. Some details of the antecdotes in this book are permanently lost, as are an untold number of then humorous occasions. For years, when family stories were told and retold with laughter, author Dan Steinbeck threatened to make them in a book. Some of the family - hopefully without regrets now encouraged him, and this is the result. This book is a compilation of short and generally humorous stories, specifically of the David Steinbeck family and ancestors, and extended branches in the family tree, all in northeast or eastern Missouri, west central or central Illinois. As may be obvious from the title and the cover, this is not a serious book, but the incidents are all true. Nuts, Squirrels, and Knotholes in the Family Tree was truly a family project, generations in the making. To be less mortifying for family members to have their humorous personal accounts included, the author bared his soul and included many of his own antics and circumstances. Its helpful, but not absolutely necessary to know any of the people in the book. It is the authors wish that fond family times will be recapped and recounted as he shows some of the great times of his family, and offers proof that yes, there are Nuts, Squirrels and Knotholes in the Family Tree.

Book excerpt: Instead of advancing women's social and professional empowerment, popular culture trends appear to be backsliding into the blatant sexual exploitation of women and girls at younger and younger ages. This study investigates the effects of mass marketed sexual images and cultural trends on the behaviors and attitudes of young girls and describes many ways in which young girls are increasingly taught to go to outrageous lengths in seeking male attention. Topics include the powerful effects of cultural phenomena such as revealing fashions, plastic surgery, and beauty pageants in influencing teen and preteen girls to willingly participate in and promote their own sexualization. These chapters also explore other cultural factors contributing to this early sexualization of young girls, including absentee parenting and material overindulgence. Later chapters focus on the sexual representations of females in the mass entertainment media, focusing specifically on how popular magazines, television programs, films, and the Internet prey upon, promote, and reinforce young girls' physical and sexual insecurities.

Book The Rangity Tango Kids

Download or read book The Rangity Tango Kids written by Lorraine Rominger and published by Untreed Reads. This book was released on 2016-07-12 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “The cadence of Rominger’s narrative style is soundly evocative of the world she brings to life in The Rangity Tango Kids. Growing up on a California farm riding horses and motorcycles, Rominger figured out where her heart was. The rich story of how to be a great family, to overcome challenges together, and to win in the end is one you won’t want to miss.” —ROBERT REDFORD “From the ground it looks like a falcon flies in circles. It actually rises flying over the same territory to a new, higher level. Rominger’s life and charming book are like this. She was born to a traditional, religious, farm family with the kind of old-fashioned values and principles politicians rant about and rarely practice. Lorraine’s story melds the best of true conservatism, neither Right nor Left, with a huge human heart. I loved this book.” —PETER COYOTE The Rangity Tango Kids is the story of a fifth-generation, German Catholic farm family in 1950s and 1960s California, narrated by the eldest of 17 grandchildren. Born into a loving, hard-working, highly competitive family, and united by a strong faith, every day was an adventure growing up on a bucolic American farm, a way of life that is rapidly disappearing. The land provided her, her siblings and cousins with a sense of place, an upbringing steeped in rituals and traditions that was in stark contrast with the values and preoccupations of the outside world. When the Rangity Tango Kids’ coming-of-age rebellion ran wild, they were often tangled up in the family’s strict morals and values. Regardless of the situation or conflict, the kids were surrounded by a swarm of loving relatives who put their arms around them and stuck together, no matter what.
