Book excerpt: Triumph over adversity using proven Special Operations habits and mindsets with this inspiring guide from retired Navy SEAL and New York Times bestselling author Jason Redman. Adversity can often catch you by surprise and leave you struggling with what to do next. What if you could confront any adversity, from the biggest challenges -- the loss of your job, divorce, health issues, bankruptcy -- to normal daily challenges -- a late flight, a disappointing phone call, a missed promotion, a bad day -- and not just survive it, but thrive afterwards? Redman was horrifically wounded in Iraq in 2007 when he was shot at close range through the face and arm. After 40 surgeries, including extensive facial reconstruction and skin grafts, he came back from this experience stronger than ever -- despite carrying scars and injuries he will have for the rest of his life. Redman went on to launch two successful companies and speaks all over the country on how to build better leaders through his Overcome mindset. Overcome is based on extensive research and interviews with America's toughest warriors, including retired 4-star Admiral William McRaven, retired Navy SEAL Jocko Willink, retired 4-star General Stanley McChrystal, and others. In this book, Redman teaches: How to survive any life ambush How to move from defense to offense using the proactive techniques of SEAL teams How to strengthen your endurance during long-term trials How to rediscover and thrive in your life purpose How to lead your team (whether in business or family) to success How to compete with the top 1% in your field How to stay the course even when you want to quit And more Some people move through adversity and others fall underneath it. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The partisan divide in the United States has widened to a chasm. Legislators vote along party lines and rarely cross the aisle. Political polarization is personal, too—and it is making us miserable. Surveys show that Americans have become more fearful and hateful of supporters of the opposing political party and imagine that they hold much more extreme views than they actually do. We have cordoned ourselves off: we prefer to date and marry those with similar opinions and are less willing to spend time with people on the other side. How can we loosen the grip of this toxic polarization and start working on our most pressing problems? The Way Out offers an escape from this morass. The social psychologist Peter T. Coleman explores how conflict resolution and complexity science provide guidance for dealing with seemingly intractable political differences. Deploying the concept of attractors in dynamical systems, he explains why we are stuck in this rut as well as the unexpected ways that deeply rooted oppositions can and do change. Coleman meticulously details principles and practices for navigating and healing the difficult divides in our homes, workplaces, and communities, blending compelling personal accounts from his years of working on entrenched conflicts with lessons from leading-edge research. The Way Out is a vital and timely guide to breaking free from the cycle of mutual contempt in order to better our lives, relationships, and country.

She was boxed in by her fears, unable to realize her full potential. All that changed when she met a girl named Sami, fell in love, and chose to leave behind those narrow boundaries in favor of a fuller and more vibrant life. In Worth It, Brit tells her story to inspire all of us to overcome our own fears--the kinds of fears that keep us from evolving beyond the narratives that have been handed to us by others. Book The Overcome A Black Passover

Download or read book The Overcome A Black Passover written by Peter W. D. Bramble Ph.D. and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2023-02-26 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “The Overcome”, a liturgy of black remembrance modeled on the Jewish Passover. The awesome history of the passage since capture in Africa invites comparison with the Hebrew exodus and even the Holocaust. Instead of recoiling from the hypercharged distinctions on both sides, scholars might do well to follow the lead of Father Bramble and of Julius Lester...” Twenty-one years have now passed since the Civil Rights Movement was consummated in the death (sacrifice) of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. King was concerned about this question: "Where do we go from here?" He addressed that issue in economic and political terms in 1967. This book is also concerned about that very question. Where do we go from here? But its answer is different, in the first instant. I believe that the first move out of the "crossroads" or dilemma that is suggested by this question about direction must be essentially conceptual. For there is no lack of programs, activities or even money in the black communities of America. We have enough of those. The lack resides elsewhere and the solution, as this book will indicate, is rather simple. But, it does not reside in programs, economics or things material. It is a "conceptual" solution that is needed and that will be offered in this book. This book is not written to become one among many others that treat black problems, but it is written with the intent that it will serve to change the character and stature of blacks the world over. It seeks to change character, not by changing the name blacks are called or call each other one more time, but by simply adding to the repertoire of black thinking certain essential concepts that are missing—concepts about triumph, winning—the Overcome. Some would immediately think that this book is simply playing with words. Wrong. One cannot think without concepts. Concepts are more than words alone. They carry descriptions, prescriptions, imperatives, conditions, etc. with them, whether spoken or not. For example, to tell someone you love that the "roads outside are icy" gives more than a simple description. There is a silent imperative, a command if you will, to be careful in walking or driving. And anyone who understands the true meaning of icy roads would immediately pick up the hidden imperative. In like manner, when through this book I declare the Overcome for blacks worldwide, I am not simply changing the lyrics of a good and popular hymn or song: "We Shall Overcome." After we establish the Overcome, a black Passover, the character of the black man and woman will change forever. They will now be known as men and women who overcome whatever is negative in their lives or community. The Overcome then becomes a character trait. It is not about money (in the first instance. it will be consequently), but about black propensities, predispositions, tendencies, habits and character. All the missing victory sub-concepts relevant to the black man must now be plugged into the matrix of the super-concept of the Overcome. The black preacher and other leading change agents will need to offer saving content to the black Overcome, ideas that are already present in the community, but which cannot take root until they are incorporated in the shared value of the society. The Overcome will "collect and hold." will interpret and pass on the successes, winnings, triumphs, victories, large and small of the community. The Overcome, which must be celebrated yearly, on April 4 (around Passover and Easter on the day our primary martyr was sacrificed), will guarantee that as other more creative minds get to work on this redeeming concept of the Overcome. The black Overcome like the Jewish Passover marks the beginning (not the end) of a victorious walk into the future.

Book The Trident

Book excerpt: Navy SEAL and author of Overcome Jason Redman’s highly-charged account of his combat missions in Iraq and his miraculous recovery from wounds that might have killed him—if it were not for his grit and the devotion of his wife and family Decorated Navy SEAL Lieutenant Jason Redman served his country in Columbia, Peru, Afghanistan and Iraq, where he commanded mobility and assault forces. In western Iraq alone, he conducted over forty capture-kill missions with his men, successfully locating more than 120 Al Qaida insurgents. In September 2007, while leading a mission against a key senior Al Qaida commander, his team was ambushed and he was critically wounded by machine-gun fire at point blank range. During the intense recovery that followed—a years-long process that included 37 surgeries—Redman gained national media attention when he posted a sign on his door at Bethesda Naval Medical Center, warning all who entered not to “feel sorry for my wounds.” Redman’s sign became both a statement and a symbol for wounded warriors everywhere. The Trident is an unforgettable story of one man’s determination to overcome adversity. Redman recounts his story, from his grueling SEAL training to how he found the balance between arrogance and humility all while fighting America’s enemies on far flung battlefields. He speaks candidly of the grit that helped him carry on despite grievous wounds, and of the extraordinary love and devotion of his wife, Erica, and family, without whom he would not have survived. Vivid and powerful, emotionally resonant and illuminating, filled with sixteen pages of photos, The Trident traces the evolution of a modern warrior, husband, and father—a man who has come to embody the never-say-die spirit that defines America’s elite fighting force.

Book Redeemed to Overcome

Download or read book Redeemed to Overcome written by Pope and published by Charisma Media. This book was released on 2005-12-29 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drexel L. Pope, Sr. offers hope and motivation to those who are suffering, and helps readers understand what it takes to battle through and overcome the problems they face today. To do this, Pope says, readers must remember that God measures success differently than man. To become an overcomer, readers must learn to turn away from all elements of self-will, independence, self-centeredness, and isolation and embrace total dependence upon and trust in the Lord. The greatest hindrance for Christians to live an overcoming life is neither a charming world nor a clever devil. Instead, it is the deceitful carnal nature of a fallen self-life. Pope offers an insightful scripture-laden study of what and how Jesus overcame so we may gain understanding on how to follow His lead. It is not an easy task, one that is full of challenge and promise. The challenge is to overcome evil for the glory of God. The promise is that if we do so, we will sit with Christ on his throne. About the Author In 1992, Pastor Drexel L. Pope Sr. and his wife founded an independent charismatic church in the Phoenix, Arizona., area. He also leads and moderates a unique community Bible discussion group using the expository approach to Bible study. Pope, who was born again in April 1953 while attending the Church of God in Clovis, New Mexico, retired from teaching after 29 years in 1988. Recent Release: Christ Glorious Bride

Book How to Overcome Death

  • ISBN : 1462801501
  • Pages : 110 pages

Download or read book How to Overcome Death written by Glen C. Cutlip and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2000-02-28 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The overcoming of death is a serious undertaking because death is a part of the nature one one's being; and therefore, not what it appears to be. When Death is reconciled with life, it becomes a means of interdimensional travel. We realize that it wasnt there in the first place. Therefore, the overcoming of death is to take place within one's present consciousness, for death is the counterpart of life in the first place. Therefore, the resurrection unto life is from the death that is hidden in life. It is the dead that appear to be living that are resurrected unto life. Death is something that is a part of ones present consciousness, not something off somewhere in the so-called afterlife The resurrection of the dead is unto conscious life or immortality, or back into the realm of unconscious death; for life and death occupy the same space. It is a matter of seeing death as it is, not just as it appears to be. In that death is not what it appears to be, the overcoming of death is not what it appears to be. Therefore, it is a real possibility. It can be realized within ones lifetime. The Overcoming of Death is the means of bringing the realization of conscious immortality to the awareness of ones present consciousness in this lifetime. It reveals why it is that losing life is finding it, and how it is that it is the dead that are living that hear the voice of the Son of God and are resurrected from the dead.
