Book The Other Side of the Pulpit

Download or read book The Other Side of the Pulpit written by Elsa May Siriano and published by David Siriano Ministries. This book was released on 2011 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Climb inside the journals and hearts of several pastors' wives as they let their feelings fly onto the pages. In this collection of real stories from behind the mask of pastors' wives, you'll discover just how human they truly are. The joys, tears, frustrations and fears are organized in this book in a way that will make you both laugh and cry as you relate. Whether you are in ministry or a woman trying to fulfill your destiny, you will gain valuable understanding as well as know that you are not alone in your dreams and screams."As I read this book, I not only laughed hysterically, I also cried. The body of Christ often forgets about all the demands and responsibilities the pastor's wife has resting on her shoulders. If I could, I would make sure every person in the church, either as a member or those in ministry, would take a few hours and read this book." -Andy Sanders- Publisher, 5 Fold Media

Book On the Other Side of the Pulpit God Is Still Real

Download or read book On the Other Side of the Pulpit God Is Still Real written by S. Neal Kendall and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2021-02 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Behind every great man is a great woman. This idiom applies to great ministers. Here is another idiom: Before every great preacher is a soloist. Before Dwight Moody there was Ira Sankey. Before Billy Graham there was George Beverly Shea. Before Dr. Dallas Billington there was Neal Kendall. This book is not about me. Its about a country preacher, Dallas F. Billington, who stood behind the pulpit and described the horrors of hell and that the only way to escape hell is, you must accept Christ. This book was written to show that it is possible for a man of God to uphold his Christian standards. He had the same message when he was out of the pulpit living his daily life through this sinful world, or behind the pulpit preaching the word of God. I was able to catch glimpses of those occasions, as I traveled with him to sing, at evangelistic meetings and various church and senior citizens dedications. Preacher's theme was to, "Win the Lost at any Cost," either from behind the pulpit or on the other side. Shirley Neal Kendall's professional job was in the plastics industry. He assumed the titles of Technical Director and Laboratory Manager. His career led him to Brussels, Belgium, and he became Executive Director of European Operations. He also served as an expert witness in court proceedings. His company sent him to Belgium to build two plants. However, it became clear that God sent him there to build a church. It was estimated that 25,000 English speaking people resided in Brussels and did not have a church home because the language in the churches was either French or Flemish. An English-speaking church was established, and Neal taught the adult Bible class until they hired two full time Baptist ministers. He taught Bible classes in Brussels, in Anniston, Alabama, and at the Akron Baptist Temple. His first love has been quartet singing and close harmony. He was also a featured soloist at The Akron Baptist Temple.

Book The Other Side of the Altar

Download or read book The Other Side of the Altar written by Paul E. Dinter and published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux. This book was released on 2010-06-29 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In all the coverage of the priestly sexual abuse scandal in the Catholic Church, one story has been left untold: the story of the everyday lives of Catholic priests in America, which remain so little understood as to be a secret, even as one priestly sexual predation after another has come to light. In The Other Side of the Altar, Paul Dinter tells one priest's story--his own--in such a way as to reveal the lives of a generation of priests that spanned two very different eras. These priests entered the ministry in the 1960s, when Catholic seminaries were full of young men inspired by both the Church's ancient faith and the Second Vatican Council's promises of renewal. But by the early 1970s, the priesthood--and the celibate fraternity it depended upon--proved quite different from what the Council had promised. American society had changed, too, particularly in the area of sexuality. As a result, there emerged a clerical subculture of denial and duplicity, which all but guaranteed that the sexual abuse of children by priests would be routinely covered up by the Church's bishops. Dinter, now married and raising two stepdaughters, left the priesthood in 1994 over the issue of celibacy, but not before having occasion to reflect on the whole range of priestly struggles with celibacy and sexual life in general--in Rome and rural England, on an Ivy League campus, and in parish rectories of the archdiocese of New York. His candid and affecting account--written from the other side of the altar, so to speak--makes clear that celibacy, sexuality, and power among the clergy have long been intertwined, and suggests how much must change if the Catholic Church hopes to regain the trust of its people.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My motive for writing this book is to encourage the 30 percent of genuine Bible-reading believers to stand fast and on the word of God (Galatians 5:1). And to also encourage vigorously the 70 percent of nonreading Bible Christians to take the further step of faith to realize the fuller revelation and benefits of salvation like in Isaiah 61:1–7 and Isaiah 58, for example. For without this next step of faith, mountains would not come down, obstacles will not be removed, and onlookers will continue to look at Christianity as weak and lean. My working continuously from fifteen as a schoolteacher to now at seventy as a substance abuse counselor, pastor, child support specialist, workshop instructor proved it to me. Delivered from twenty-five years of alcoholism and its detriments proved it to me. Living unscathed with dangerous criminals in seven correctional facilities, including Rikers Island, proved it to me. Watching individuals in prison threaten to kill me and beat Jesus out of my —— and then became my friend proved it to be so. Delivered from low self-esteem and clinophobia proved it to be so. Going for 1 percent in math to graduating magna cum laude at forty-four proved it to be so. Working on Wall Street for twenty years in and out of the mix unscathed proved it be so. Delivered from two cancers without surgeries and be handsomely paid proved it to be so. Having enormous peace and security and hope in Christ proves it to be so. Watching all of my bills disappear by standing and applying the word of God as Joshua 1:8 states proves it to be so. As one inmate counselor once told me, “Christianity works for those who work it, not for those who don’t take the time to prove it so.” Jesus Christ said this to be true, and I believe it because it works for me and followers like me with no regrets in every situation of life.

Book A Stranger in the House of God

Download or read book A Stranger in the House of God written by John Koessler and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2009-08-30 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Growing up the son of agnostics, John Koessler saw a Catholic church on one end of the street and a Baptist on the other. In the no-man’s land between the two, this curious outside wondered about the God they worshipped—and began a lifelong search to comprehend the grace and mystery of God. A Stranger in the House of God addresses fundamental questions and struggles faced by spiritual seekers and mature believers. Like a contemporary Pilgrim’s Progress, it traces the author’s journey and explores his experiences with both charismatic and evangelical Christianity. It also describes his transformation from religious outsider to ordained pastor. John Koessler provides a poignant and often humorous window into the interior of the soul as he describes his journey from doubt and struggle with the church to personal faith
