Book The Story of Organ Music Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Story of Organ Music Classic Reprint written by C. F. Abdy Williams and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-08-23 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Story of Organ Music Since it is not convenient to add a second volume of musical illustrations, as Ritter was able to do, Ihave had to content myself with a few quotations in an Appendix. I have given the whole of a Toccata by Pasquini, whose Works were supposed until recently to have been lost to the world; and the style of Elizabethan organ music is exemplified by a Choralvorspiel by Dr. John Bull, the most famous English organist of his day. I take this opportunity of acknowledging the courtesy of the Curators of the Schools of Oxford University in allowing me to reproduce their portrait of this great musician, which will be found facing page 192. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Organ and Its Position in Musical Art: A Book for Musicians and Amateurs The object of this little book is to attempt to arouse among musical readers, more especially among the general public of amateurs of music, some interest in a great instrument which is very little understood even by many professional musi cians; to explain what the organ really is, what use should be made of it, what it can do and can not do (the latter point quite as important as the former). Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Organ With the exception of a few minor details the work of Sir John Stainer remains the same. The new material in Parts I and II comprises the development of the Pneumatic and Electric Actions, with drawings from Key to Pallet, and, as far as possible, the latest inventions have been described. In Part III little has been done except the grouping of 4-foot and 2-foot stops under the correct heading of Foundation stops, and, where stops are known by two different names, the old and the new terms are given for completeness. A list of stops for the Solo and Echo or Celestial Organs, with the character of tone of each stop, together with a complete list of Couplers to be found on Modern Organs, have been added. The section Hints on Organ Accompaniment for the church service is not intended to be a complete guide to this important subject, but to serve merely as an introduction to a fascinating and almost endless study. Book The Story of the Organ Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Story of the Organ Classic Reprint written by C. F. Abdy Williams and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-23 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Story of the Organ As it is difficult, or impossible, to write a history of the organ without the use of a few technical terms which may not be familiar to the general reader, I have given a rough outline of the simplest mechanism of a modern instrument in Chapter I., and have added Appendices, which can be referred to, if necessary, by the reader, should he have a doubt as to the meaning of technical words. Appendix C is intended more as a sort of summary of the progress of the art of organ-building than a complete list of organ-builders, which it in no way pretends to be. It is arranged alphabetically for convenience of reference. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Technique and Art of Organ Playing Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Technique and Art of Organ Playing Classic Reprint written by Clarence Dickinson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-15 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Technique and Art of Organ Playing This book is designed to provide the teacher with the technical material necessary to carry the student from the beginning of his studies through to the acquirement of complete command of his instrument. The aim has been to include in one volume a study of all the distinctive principles of organ technique, with enough illustrations and exercises through which they may be mastered, together with interesting compositions which will at once call for their application. It is hoped that the textual division, Part I, may prove of value in saving the teacher's time by supplying a book of reference for students and also by providing material from which themes may be drawn for class conferences in which these points may be discussed and enlarged upon. In assembling in one volume studies of all the various points of organ technique necessary to the equipment of the organist with as detailed a description as possible of the process by which each is to be mastered, the author has had in mind, also, the many students who must pursue their work without the personal guidance of a teacher. To the studio of every teacher there come pupils who are able to remain only a short time, who then, although eager for further study, are obliged to return to their posts to do the best they can for their further advancement in their art, and to teach others out of their still limited equipment. Of course nothing can ever take the place of the personal guidance and example of an inspired teacher; this book simply aims to provide the next best thing for students who must continue their studies thus or not at all. With their needs in view the author has endeavored, in Part I, to take up each point of technique in logical and related order, and to describe it clearly and definitely, with illustrations whenever they may aid in comprehension and application; and, in Part II, to supply, also in logical order, just as many exercises as are absolutely necessary to cover each point, and pieces which, although they demand the application of each point of technique as it is acquired and are therefore excellent studies, are never mere studies, but are such as will be of use to the organist always, and of so great variety in style that effective recital programs can be made from just these numbers.
