Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Open Door Doctrine in Relation to China The Open Door Doctrine, as is well known, has become a cardinal principle of American diplomacy. Just as the Monroe Doctrine governs American diplomacy in relations with Latin America, so the Open Door Doctrine guides American diplomacy in the Orient, particularly with respect to China. In fact, American foreign relations with China may be said to be conducted in terms of the Open Door Doctrine. Hence, a correct understanding of this policy is of vital importance. The author has searched diligently for studies on this subject, but he has found few writings that gave a satisfactory presentation. While there are fragmentary essays, he has been impressed with the lack of a comprehensive work relating to the Doctrine. It is, therefore, hoped that this work may fill this need. Particular endeavors have been made to obtain the highest and the most authoritative sources of information and materials. Download or read book The Doctrines of US Security Policy written by Heiko Meiertöns and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-06-10 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The practise of outlining principles for the conduct of US security policy in so-called doctrines is a characteristic feature of US foreign policy. From an international lawyer's point of view two aspects of these doctrines are of particular interest. First, to what degree are the criteria for the use of force, as laid down in these doctrines, consistent with the limitations for the use of force in international law? Second, which law-creating effects do these doctrines have? Furthermore, the legal nature of these doctrines remains uncertain. These matters are examined, beginning with the Monroe Doctrine of 1823 and taking into account the Stimson Doctrine of 1932, the doctrines of the Cold-War period and the Bush Doctrine of 2002. The Bush Doctrine in particular has generated controversies concerning its compatibility with Article 51 of the UN Charter, due to its principle of preventive self-defence.

Download or read book The Mysterious and Obvious in American Diplomacy written by Insur Farkhutdinov and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2020-07-09 with total page 545 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book analyses the origins of the idea of interference in the internal affairs of other states and preventive strike in international law, beginning with the Monroe Doctrine (1823). American diplomacy has not changed in principle in the last two centuries, and is still based on the Monroe doctrine. This is proven here through the study of the foreign policy of the vast majority of US presidents, from Monroe to Trump. As the book shows, one of the main tools of American domination throughout the world in the second half of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st is the doctrine of the preventive strike and interference in the affairs of other states.

Book excerpt: In 1899, the U.S.’s Hay Doctrine, more commonly referred to as the Open Door Policy, required that China’s trading ports remain open to all countries on an equal basis. Originally published in 1924, in the wake of World War I, this book looks at the variety of different policies between Western and Asian countries throughout the 19th and early 20th century and shows how the powerful influences of European imperialism and American political doctrine disrupted Asia’s development. This title is ideal for students interested in Asian Studies, Post-Colonial Studies and Politics.
