Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Ontario Public School Hygiene The present volume summarizes very brie y the teaching of the Reader in hygiene used in Ontario Public Schools, and contains much additional matter, especially in regard to hygiene. All boys and girls before they reach forms IV and V acquire some knowledge of animal physiology without any formal instruction, and they may be led to acquire a much fuller knowledge with a little assistance from the teacher. A detailed knowledge, however, such as is included in many school physiologies, is a mistake. Anatomical dissections and physiological demonstrations are not suitable for school children. For school children the important matter is hygiene - a knowledge of the laws of health. If, during their school days, children learn how to care for their health, and acquire health habits as they certainly should, they are laying the best possible foundation for doing their daily work with real enjoyment, and for bearing the stress and strain of adult life without danger of a physical or mental break-down. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from School and Industrial Hygiene Again: the food and sleep of the child are mainly beyond the control of public schools. They are not wholly so, however; and it is a teacher's duty to discourage working in improper hours. Still more imperatively is it his duty to regulate the child's needs in school-time, to see if he is faint from want of food. To encourage and teach good habits, and to give opportunity for bodily exercise. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book School Hygiene Classic Reprint

Download or read book School Hygiene Classic Reprint written by Robert A. Lyster and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-27 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from School Hygiene The importance of Hygiene to the community at large, and more particularly to the younger members of the race, is now at last becoming generally recognised. Moreover, medical inspection of some kind has now become compulsory in schools. No excuse, therefore, is necessary for the appearance of this book, dealing especially with the hygiene of children and of school life: the experience of the author in lecturing to large bodies of teachers throughout the West Riding of Yorkshire and also in the Midlands has shown him that there is need for such a text-book. The subject-matter in this book largely consists of the material of the various courses of lectures to teachers referred to above. It is believed that it provides a thorough course in the practical hygiene of child and school life. Efforts have been made to make it self-contained, and to assume no previous knowledge of the subject, but at the same time care has been taken to avoid the introduction of an unnecessary proportion of theoretical information, and to explain the more difficult portions of the subject in the simplest language available. While fully recognising the value and importance of a sound knowledge of physiology to a teacher, yet the author has been careful to eliminate all unnecessary physiological facts from the book, and to include only such physiological details as are necessary for the clear explanation and appreciation of hygienic rules. Book Newsholme s School Hygiene

Download or read book Newsholme s School Hygiene written by James Kerr and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-23 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Newsholme's School Hygiene: The Laws of Health in Relation to School Life "School Hygiene: The Laws of Health in Relation to School Life" was first published in the year 1887, and since then, with only one revision in the year 1903, it has had a large and continuing annual sale, having reached its twelfth edition in 1907. When first published, "School Hygiene" gave a fair picture of the needs of public elementary schools in relation to personal and general hygiene, and formed a useful guide to the means for improving educational efficiency, so far as this is determined by hygienic considerations. For some years, however, the rapid advance of the science of school hygiene and the extensions of its practice in new departures in school-life have rendered it highly desirable that "School Hygiene" should be rewritten, if its continued sale were to be authorized. My own work during recent years has not been specially concerned with the educational problems of school hygiene, except in so far as they form part of the general problem of Public Health; and it was evidently desirable that a new book should be written, merely using "School Hygiene" as its framework, by an authority on the educational side of hygiene. The publishers are to be congratulated on having secured for this task the services of Dr. James Kerr, whose knowledge of the science of school hygiene and whose original work in promoting its advance are unrivalled among English-speaking communities. Book Manual of Hygiene for Schools and Colleges Classic Reprint

Download or read book Manual of Hygiene for Schools and Colleges Classic Reprint written by Provincial Board of Health of Ontario and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-10 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Manual of Hygiene for Schools and Colleges The want has long been felt of a work on Hygiene, which would occupy an intermediate place between the elementary text-books for the use of children, and the advanced treatises for practitioners of medicine, sanitary engineers, and other persons intending to become experts in Sanitary Science. This book is designed to meet, in some degree, that want. Whilst many of the calculations, and much of the matter, contained in it are expressed in terms not suited to a child, it is, on the other hand, free, as far as may be, from technical expressions not readily understood by the ordinary reader. Whilst it is primarily intended for teachers, and for pupils in attendance at the Normal and other Schools of the higher grade it is hoped that it may be read with interest and profit by other persons; and that a perusal of it, coupled with an earnest desire to put in practice any good suggestions that may be offered, will be productive of increased health and vigor, and a lessened death rate. It is intended to present such a knowledge of sanitary matters as every intelligent citizen should possess. Book The American Journal of School Hygiene Classic Reprint

Download or read book The American Journal of School Hygiene Classic Reprint written by UNKNOWN. AUTHOR and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-06 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The American Journal of School Hygiene I wish for The American Journal of School Hygiene a long life of usefulness in its very important field. There is need for such a journal, first to assist in spreading the gospel of good health for children through proper care both at home and in school and through scientific sanitation of school buildings and grounds. Second, to give information in regard to the means of conserving and promoting the health of children, and last and by no means least, to serve as a means of communication between teachers, school boards and superintendents, health inspectors and school physicians and nurses. The rapidly increasing interest in the health of children in school and the recognition of the responsibility of the schools in respect to this subject show the practical trend of modern educational theory and practice. In modern thought and practice education lays hold more and more firmly on life and tries to add to its fullness more effectually. Mere learning and other products of the school room come too high if gained at the expense of physical health and vitality. However well informed, trained and skilled they may be, a vital mistake has been made in the education of those children who come to manhood or womanhood without the health and strength and hardihood necessary to enable them to do the work of men or to bear the burdens of women, without which they are unable to make their knowledge, skill and good will effective for the happiness of themselves and their fellows. There is much economic loss to the State and society when children are reared and educated at great expense, but through lack of necessary knowledge and care of their health go to an early grave or live unprofitable lives as invalids. Therefore the establishment of health and right health habits must be considered among the most important elements in public education, and a knowledge of the laws of health among the most important of all forms of knowledge to be given by the schools. Book Educational Hygiene From the Pre School Period to the University Classic Reprint

Download or read book Educational Hygiene From the Pre School Period to the University Classic Reprint written by Louis Win Rapeer and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-13 with total page 804 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Educational Hygiene, From the Pre-School Period to the University This volume is an attempt to bring together in organized form the latest information and advice of leading specialists in all the large phases of the subject. The hygiene of chil dren from the standpoint of the school in its relationship to the home and community, from the pre-school period up through the college, is sketched in such detail as is possible in so comprehensive a volume. There has been a constant temptation to add chapters on many new phases of the school health movement, but the editor has tried to limit himself to certain minimum essentials, and to give references to the voluminous literature which treats at length the many topics discussed here only briefly. Each chapter and parts of many chapters easily furnish topics for much-needed books, some of which have already been provided by contributors to the volume. Effort has been made to lead the reader on from these condensed statements to the monographic literature.
