Book The Ocean Breeze and Dry Gulch Diffusion Programs

Download or read book The Ocean Breeze and Dry Gulch Diffusion Programs written by Duane A. Haugen and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Field diffusion programs were conducted at Cape Canaveral, Florida and Vandenberg AFB, California during 1961 and 1962. These programs, nicknamed Ocean Breeze and Dry Gulch respectively, were undertaken to establish quantitative diffusion predictions for use as range safty tools at the missile test ranges. The programs culminated at each range with the installation of an automatic computer-controlled meteorological data acquisition and processing system now in continuous operation at the bases. These systems have been named Weather Information Network Display (WIND) systems. Volume I describes the diffusion experiments that were conducted as well as summaries of the resulting experimantal data. Volume II is devoted to analyses of the data to develop diffusion prediction equations, description of the WIND systems, recommendations for operational use of the prediction equation and WIND systems, and preliminary climatological summaries for each missile test range.

Book An Evaluation of the Ocean Breeze Dry Gulch Dispersion Model

Download or read book An Evaluation of the Ocean Breeze Dry Gulch Dispersion Model written by Bruce A. Kunkel and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ocean Breeze-Dry Gulch (OB/DG) atmospheric dispersion model is used extensively by the USAF Air Weather Service for predicting the hazard zone resulting from an accidental toxic chemical spill. This model is an empirical and statistical model derived from the Ocean Breeze, Dry Gulch, and Prairie Grass experiments conducted in the late 50's and early 60's. the USAF Scientific Advisory Board recently recommended that the OB/DG model be replaced with a current state-of-the-art dispersion model. This report represents the first step toward evaluating the OB/DG model and finding a suitable replacement. The hazard distances computed from the OB/DG model for different meteorological conditions are compared with the hazard distances calculated with the Shell Oil co. SPILLS model and a modified version of the model. In the modified Shell model, the discrete Pasquill stability categories are replaced with a continuous stability parameter, and surface roughness is included as a factor in defining the rate of cloud growth. The OB/DG model agrees quite favorably with the modified Shell model except at low wind speeds where it predicts considerably lower distances. The Shell model calculates generally larger distances and much greater fluctuations with wind speed, and therefore does not agree as well with the OB/DG model. The similarity in output between the modified Shell model and the OB/DG model lends support to further consideration of this model as a possible replacement to the OB/DG model.

Book Lees Loss Prevention in the Process Industries

Download or read book Lees Loss Prevention in the Process Industries written by Frank Lees and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2012-11-05 with total page 3685 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Safety in the process industries is critical for those who work with chemicals and hazardous substances or processes. The field of loss prevention is, and continues to be, of supreme importance to countless companies, municipalities and governments around the world, and Lees' is a detailed reference to defending against hazards. Recognized as the standard work for chemical and process engineering safety professionals, it provides the most complete collection of information on the theory, practice, design elements, equipment, regulations and laws covering the field of process safety. An entire library of alternative books (and cross-referencing systems) would be needed to replace or improve upon it, but everything of importance to safety professionals, engineers and managers can be found in this all-encompassing three volume reference instead. - The process safety encyclopedia, trusted worldwide for over 30 years - Now available in print and online, to aid searchability and portability - Over 3,600 print pages cover the full scope of process safety and loss prevention, compiling theory, practice, standards, legislation, case studies and lessons learned in one resource as opposed to multiple sources

Book Biometeorological Methods

Download or read book Biometeorological Methods written by R. E. Munn and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biometeorological Methods provides a unified look at methodologies in biometeorology. Examples of biometeorological studies have been chosen not because the results are necessarily significant but because the method is instructive. The book begins with a brief survey of biometeorology to orient the reader approaching the subject for the first time. The remaining chapters seek to place in perspective the various experimental, empirical, analytical, and physical methods that are being used or could be used in biometeorology. Key topics discussed include space and time considerations in the sampling of the atmosphere; the design of biometeorological experiments; the use of tables, graphs, and charts in the search for biometeorological relationships; statistical and physical methods; and the synoptic approach. Also covered are studies on seasonal relationships, past climates, and climatic classification and indices. The present volume should be of value to anyone seeking assistance in the design of experiments and analysis of environmental data.

Book Guide to Local Diffusion of Air Pollutants

Download or read book Guide to Local Diffusion of Air Pollutants written by Gordon A. Beals and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report is intended as a guide on local air pollution for forecasters who have had no prior experience with diffusion. Certain fundamentals of micormeteorology and diffusion in the lower layers are expounded and their relatio to the determination of air pollutant dispersion and concentration amounts is explained. Calculations of pollutant concentrations using accepted techniques are systematically discussed and solution of actual air pollution problems are shown in the Appendix. Graphs and nomograms used in solving air pollution problems are also furnished in the Appendix.
