Book O Neil Ford Duograph 5 Paraguay

Download or read book O Neil Ford Duograph 5 Paraguay written by Barbara Hoidn and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solano Benítez ́audacious brick structures are hand crafted, rough, minimal and of strikingly beautiful elegance like the best engineering structures at all times. The featured Abu & Font house earned him the prestigious Swiss BSI Architectural Award in 2008. Like pioneers he and his team boldly conquer new fields of construction even if using familiar and traditional products. Javier Corvalán ́s fine sense of observation results in incredibly stimulating and flexible spaces - be it a private house, a cultural center, a library, or his own house and office. The intentional informality of the plan is consequently and successfully transformed into experimental plastic configurations. A subversive dismissal of traditional definitions of an object not to mention a building, its meaning and its technical representation is key to the chosen tectonic order which more than once relies on transformations of ready-mades or trivial construction methods. With this fifth OŃeil Ford Duograph, The Center for American Architecture and Design together with the OŃeil Ford Chair in Architecture at The University of Texas at Austin are publishing another set of buildings by two architects from one country in South America.

Book The Architecture of Full Scale Mock Ups

Download or read book The Architecture of Full Scale Mock Ups written by Nick Gelpi and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-02-26 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Architecture of Full-Scale Mock-Ups looks at the theory and contemporary practice of creating full-scale architectural mock-ups. This book serves as an introduction to the various forms of full-scale mock-ups which occur today. To broaden the definition of mock-ups, Nick Gelpi dives deep into the use of mock-ups in seven high-profile and global contemporary case studies. Instead of the presentation drawings and final building photos, the documentation of case studies relies on process photos, interviews, and moments of tension in the execution of each building. With never-before-published content, case studies include buildings from all over the world, including the Quincho Tia Coral and Teleton Building, Copper House II, the Pérez Art Museum Miami, the Cité de l’Océan et du Surf Museum, and more. Investigating unique case studies to answer how and when full-scale mock-ups occur today, this book is ideal for professionals and students of architecture studying materials and representation, design-build, and professional practice.

Book Take One Building Interdisciplinary Research Perspectives of the Seattle Central Library

Download or read book Take One Building Interdisciplinary Research Perspectives of the Seattle Central Library written by Ruth Conroy Dalton and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2016-11-25 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book evaluates how we experience and understand buildings in different ways depending upon our academic and professional background. With reference to Rem Koolhaas' Seattle Central Library, the book illustrates a range of different methods available through its application to the building. By seeing such a variety of different research methods applied to one setting, it provides the opportunity for researchers to understand how tools can highlight various aspects of a building and how those different methods can augment, or complement, each other. Unique to this book are contributions from internationally renowned academics from fields including architecture, ethnography, architectural criticism, phenomenology, sociology, environmental psychology and cognitive science, all of which are united by a single, real-world application, the Seattle Central Library. This book will be of interest to architects and students of architecture as well as disciplines such as ethnography, sociology, environmental psychology, and cognitive science that have an interest in applying research methods to the built environment.

Book Modern Architecture in Latin America

Download or read book Modern Architecture in Latin America written by Luis E. Carranza and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on 2015-01-05 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designed as a survey and focused on key examples and movements arranged chronologically from 1903 to 2003, this is the first comprehensive history of modern architecture in Latin America in any language. Runner-up, University Co-op Robert W. Hamilton Book Award, 2015 Modern Architecture in Latin America: Art, Technology, and Utopia is an introductory text on the issues, polemics, and works that represent the complex processes of political, economic, and cultural modernization in the twentieth century. The number and types of projects varied greatly from country to country, but, as a whole, the region produced a significant body of architecture that has never before been presented in a single volume in any language. Modern Architecture in Latin America is the first comprehensive history of this important production. Designed as a survey and focused on key examples/paradigms arranged chronologically from 1903 to 2003, this volume covers a myriad of countries; historical, social, and political conditions; and projects/developments that range from small houses to urban plans to architectural movements. The book is structured so that it can be read in a variety of ways—as a historically developed narrative of modern architecture in Latin America, as a country-specific chronology, or as a treatment of traditions centered on issues of art, technology, or utopia. This structure allows readers to see the development of multiple and parallel branches/historical strands of architecture and, at times, their interconnections across countries. The authors provide a critical evaluation of the movements presented in relationship to their overall goals and architectural transformations.

Book Bou a Residents Association Housing

Download or read book Bou a Residents Association Housing written by Siza and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From start to finish, it took the Modernist Portuguese architect lvaro Siza, winner of the 1992 Pritzker Prize and designer of The Serpentine Gallery's 2005 Summer Pavilion, 33 years to construct the Bou a Residents' Association Housing in the northern city of Porto--which he realized in association with architect Ant nio Madureira. During those years, Siza completed numerous important commissions, including the architecture faculty building at the University of Porto in 1985 and the Funda o Serralves museum of contemporary art in that same city in 1999. In 1988 he restored the Chiado district of Lisbon, Portugal, after a devastating fire; and his Portuguese Pavilion for Lisbon's EXPO 98 was internationally recognized. While Siza was busy with all of these buildings and plans, the first phase of the Bou a project was falling ever deeper into disrepair, hampered by municipal neglect. It has since been brought up to Siza's standards, and this publication appraises the project, now happily completed. Siza's sketches, many of which are published here for the first time, reveal the tenacity of his search for the right solution.
