Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The earlier chapter of this self-contained text provide a route from first principles through standard linear and quadratic algebra to geometric algebra, with Clifford's geometric algebras taking pride of place. In parallel with this is an account, also from first principles, of the elementary theory of topological spaces and of continuous and differentiable maps that leads up to the definitions of smooth manifolds and their tangent spaces and of Lie groups and Lie algebras. The calculus is presented as far as possible in basis free form to emphasize its geometrical flavour and its linear algebra content. In this second edition Dr Porteous has taken the opportunity to add a chapter on triality which extends earlier work on the Spin groups in the chapter on Clifford algebras. The details include a number of important transitive group actions and a description of one of the exceptional Lie groups, the group G2. A number of corrections and improvements have also been made. There are many exercises throughout the book and senior undergraduates in mathematics as well as first-year graduate students will continue to find it stimulating and rewarding.

Book Programming for Engineers

    Book Details:
  • Author : Aaron R. Bradley
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2011-10-25
  • ISBN : 3642233031
  • Pages : 245 pages

Download or read book Programming for Engineers written by Aaron R. Bradley and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-10-25 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To learn to program is to be initiated into an entirely new way of thinking about engineering, mathematics, and the world in general. Computation is integral to all modern engineering disciplines, so the better you are at programming, the better you will be in your chosen field. The author departs radically from the typical presentation by teaching concepts and techniques in a rigorous manner rather than listing how to use libraries and functions. He presents pointers in the very first chapter as part of the development of a computational model that facilitates an ab initio presentation of subjects such as function calls, call-by-reference, arrays, the stack, and the heap. The model also allows students to practice the essential skill of memory manipulation throughout the entire course rather than just at the end. As a result, this textbook goes further than is typical for a one-semester course -- abstract data types and linked lists, for example, are covered in depth. The computational model will also serve students in their adventures with programming beyond the course: instead of falling back on rules, they can think through the model to decide how a new programming concept fits with what they already know. The book is appropriate for undergraduate students of engineering and computer science, and graduate students of other disciplines. It contains many exercises integrated into the main text, and the author has made the source code available online.

Book Arithmetic and Algebraic Circuits

Download or read book Arithmetic and Algebraic Circuits written by Antonio Lloris Ruiz and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-03-27 with total page 682 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a complete and accurate study of arithmetic and algebraic circuits. The first part offers a review of all important basic concepts: it describes simple circuits for the implementation of some basic arithmetic operations; it introduces theoretical basis for residue number systems; and describes some fundamental circuits for implementing the main modular operations that will be used in the text. Moreover, the book discusses floating-point representation of real numbers and the IEEE 754 standard. The second and core part of the book offers a deep study of arithmetic circuits and specific algorithms for their implementation. It covers the CORDIC algorithm, and optimized arithmetic circuits recently developed by the authors for adders and subtractors, as well as multipliers, dividers and special functions. It describes the implementation of basic algebraic circuits, such as LFSRs and cellular automata. Finally, it offers a complete study of Galois fields, showing some exemplary applications and discussing the advantages in comparison to other methods. This dense, self-contained text provides students, researchers and engineers, with extensive knowledge on and a deep understanding of arithmetic and algebraic circuits and their implementation.

Book excerpt: This book proposes a study of semi-exact homological categories as a basis for a generalized homological algebra. The aim is to extend homological notions to deeply non-abelian situations, where satellites and spectral sequences produced by unstable homotopy can still be studied.

Book Algebraic Circuits

Download or read book Algebraic Circuits written by Antonio Lloris Ruiz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-04-05 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a complete and accurate study of algebraic circuits, digital circuits whose performance can be associated with any algebraic structure. The authors distinguish between basic algebraic circuits, such as Linear Feedback Shift Registers (LFSRs) and cellular automata and algebraic circuits, such as finite fields or Galois fields. The book includes a comprehensive review of representation systems, of arithmetic circuits implementing basic and more complex operations and of the residue number systems (RNS). It presents a study of basic algebraic circuits such as LFSRs and cellular automata as well as a study of circuits related to Galois fields, including two real cryptographic applications of Galois fields.

Book Algebraic Quotients Torus Actions and Cohomology The Adjoint Representation and the Adjoint Action

Download or read book Algebraic Quotients Torus Actions and Cohomology The Adjoint Representation and the Adjoint Action written by A. Bialynicki-Birula and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second volume of the new subseries "Invariant Theory and Algebraic Transformation Groups". The aim of the survey by A. Bialynicki-Birula is to present the main trends and achievements of research in the theory of quotients by actions of algebraic groups. This theory contains geometric invariant theory with various applications to problems of moduli theory. The contribution by J. Carrell treats the subject of torus actions on algebraic varieties, giving a detailed exposition of many of the cohomological results one obtains from having a torus action with fixed points. Many examples, such as toric varieties and flag varieties, are discussed in detail. W.M. McGovern studies the actions of a semisimple Lie or algebraic group on its Lie algebra via the adjoint action and on itself via conjugation. His contribution focuses primarily on nilpotent orbits that have found the widest application to representation theory in the last thirty-five years.
