Book Primer of the Bible Classic Reprint

Download or read book Primer of the Bible Classic Reprint written by William Henry Bennett and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-17 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Primer of the Bible The Object of this Primer is to sketch, in the light of recent criticism, the history of the Bible the composition of the books - as far as possible in chronological order; their relations to one another, and to the history of Israel, of Judaism, and of the Church and the process by which they were chosen, collected, and set apart as Sacred Scriptures. In order to furnish a clear and intelligible outline of the subject, its treatment has been limited in two important directions. First, alternative theories are only referred to when they are based on the same general principles of criticism as those assumed in the Primer. An attempt to compare, in this little work, the opposing views of radically difi'erent schools would have only led to obscurity and confusion. Secondly, facts which must be familiar to anyone who is likely to read this work, are only referred to when some mention of them is necessary to make the treatment of a subject clear, continuous, and complete. Book The First Printed English New Testament Classic Reprint

Download or read book The First Printed English New Testament Classic Reprint written by William Tyndale and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-20 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The First Printed English New Testament At the outset, however, we must limit this testimony to these first two editions only. Afterwards came 'thicker and threefold' into England, editions both of the New Testament and of the Bible. Some of these attempted an accurate authenticity, being produced solely from a love to God and Truth others were surreptitiously and often carelessly produced by speculators, for the mere sake of money. All these can only be rightly analysed and adjudged in a thorough and complete History of the English Bible, both manuscript and printed.' A work yet to be written; though the way has been made smoother by such pioneers as Rev. J. Fqrshall, Sir F. Madden; Revs. J. Lewis, H. Cotton, Canon B. F. West cott Messrs. Lea wilson, C. Anderson, G. Offor, F. Fry, and others. Such a work would be based upon deep sacred interest. It would record a marvellous story of human heroism and self denial, of untiring effort and labour. It would catalogue all known editions, all accessnble early copies, and point out their various difl'erences. And, with it, would be largely in terwoven the political and social history of what may be looked upon as our Biblical Century - that hundred years, roughly speakin of incessant Biblical translation and revision, which was crowned wit]? That literary marvel, the present authorized version. What Froude has done for the Court and Political History of our Reformation what Macaulay for twenty years later on in our National History; might, with even a more interesting subject - the most interesting of all literary subjects to many - be done for the Story of the Word of God in English. Is any man so bold, so earnest, so devout, as to attempt this work i In adducing this Testimony from original sources, and in eliminating it from the confusion of many conflicting and perplexing statements, it will be convenient to quote each passage, once for all, in its principal place though it may occasionally anticipate somewhat in time, or contain traneous matter. This book was released on 2018-03-23 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Introduction to the Textual Criticism of the New Testament His little treatise purports to be a primer, and a primer to the art of textual criticism rather than to the science. Its purpose will be served if the reader is prepared by it to exercise the art in the usual processes, and to enter upon the study of the science in such books as Dr. Hort's In troduction, and Dr. Gregory's Prolegomena to Tischendorf's eighth edition. In such a primary treatise, and Where no claim to originality is made. Obligations to previous works can scarcely be acknow ledged. The author hopes that his general confession of having made use of everything that he could lay his hands upon that served his purpose, will be deemed sufficient acknowledgment of the many debts he is conscious of, and would like, if occasion served to confess in detail. Book excerpt: The single most influential Christian textbook in history, most scholars agree that most, if not all, of the Founding Fathers were taught to read and write using this The New England Primer, which is unsurpassed to this day for its excellence of practical training and Christian worldview. First published in 1690, the goal of the Primer was to combine the study of the Bible with the alphabet, vocabulary, and the reading of prose and poetry. This is the book that introduced the children's prayer, "Now I lay me down to sleep," and which made the "Shorter Catechism" a staple of education for all American children. More than five million copies were sold in the nineteenth century alone.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Books of the New Testament The perfection of modern printing and the beauty and compactness of our present-day books undoubtedly cause certain loss to the reader of the New Testament. It is charming and convenient to have that greatest of all literature in such compass that one can carry it in a tiny little book. Book Great Texts of the New Testament Classic Reprint

Download or read book Great Texts of the New Testament Classic Reprint written by J. G. Greenhough and published by . This book was released on 2016-06-24 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Great Texts of the New Testament There are secrets hidden in every tiny ower and grain of sand, in every throbbing nerve and aching heart, which our keenest wisdom cannot discover. Every tear is a profound mystery, every Sigh is a world of unimaginable things. No one can tell us why we laugh or why we cry. NO one can read his brother's mind or understand his own. He who has studied human nature most closely has but touched the Surface of it. Those who can tell us most about man can only prove that he is fearfully and wonder fully made. Men who have been investigating for a lifetime the sins, sorrows, and diseases of the World, find that these are still the everlasting riddle; and he whose faith has given him the clearest vision of God, knows that these are but a portion of His ways, and the thunders of His power none can understand. The highest philosophy still prattles and stammers and guesses like a child, and we all have to kneel down humbly declaring that our wisdom is but dim eyed folly, and repeating these words of Paul: Now we see through a glass, darkly: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as 1 am known.
