Book International Investment Law and Competition Law

Download or read book International Investment Law and Competition Law written by Katia Fach Gómez and published by Springer. This book was released on 2020-03-17 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This EYIEL special issue examines the interaction between international investment law and competition law. Although issues related to both international investment law and competition law arise regularly in international legal practice and are examined together, scholarly analysis largely treats them as parallel universes. As a result their actual and potential overlap has yet to be sufficiently explored. In this light, International Investment Law and Competition Law discusses a variety of topics at the intersection of investment and competition, including the interaction between competition-related provisions and investment protection standards in free trade agreements; investors’ anti-competitive behaviour and illegal investments; state aid schemes and foreign investors’ legitimate expectations; EU member States’ compliance with investment awards as (illegal) state aid under EU law; State-owned enterprises and competitive neutrality; and interactions between public procurement, investment and competition law.

How should firms handle cultural and institutional differences between markets? Compiled by two of the World's leading scholars of international business, and supplemented with critical commentaries and a range of integrative case studies, this comprehensive textbook provides advanced students of international business and strategy with a resource that will be invaluable in their studies and beyond.

Book Dependent Growth Foreign Investment and the Development of the Automotive Industry in East Central Europe

Download or read book Dependent Growth Foreign Investment and the Development of the Automotive Industry in East Central Europe written by Petr Pavlínek and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-04-07 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a critical analysis of recent developments in the automotive industry of East-Central Europe (ECE). Economists, industry specialists and national governments have considered the rapid development of the automotive industry in ECE in the past twenty years an unqualified success. This rapid growth has been based on large inflows of foreign direct investment (FDI) from Western Europe, North America, Japan and South Korea, and it significantly contributed to GDP growth, created thousands of new jobs, and completely transformed the previously existing automotive industry in the region. This volume offers an analysis that goes beyond uncritical celebratory accounts of this rapid growth. It is based on original, detailed firm-level research conducted by the author in Czechia and Slovakia between 2009 and 2015 that covered assembly firms and the networks of component suppliers. Theoretically and conceptually, the analysis will draw on the global production networks and global value chains perspectives. Drawing on the original empirical data and on additional available information, this volume concentrates on several important questions related to the development of the automotive industry in ECE in the 2000s:• The role of FDI in the rapid development of the automotive industry after 1990 and particularly in the 2000s.• The upgrading of the automotive industry in East-Central Europe through FDI• The position of ECE in the automotive industry research and development (R&D)• The effects of the 2008-2009 economic crisis in the automotive industry of ECE.• The role of state in the rapid development of the automotive industry in ECE in the 1990s and 2000s.• The effects of FDI on domestic firms in the form of linkages between foreign-owned and domestic firms and spillovers from foreign-owned to domestic firms.

Book Evolutionary Economics and the New International Political Economy

Download or read book Evolutionary Economics and the New International Political Economy written by John De la Mothe and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 1996 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evolutionary economics focuses on the theory of the firm, organizational behavior and the role of technological change to reassess in a non-orthodox way the factors which motivate firms and individuals on a national and international level. With the heightened level of economic interaction, modern socio-economies are increasingly being shaped by their trade patterns and their innovation activities. In recent years it has become equally clear that standard neo-classical and fashionable "public choice" approaches to trade and economic growth are incapable of explaining the current "drift" of capitalist economies, or of guiding, in any practical way, the formulation of either publication innovation and trade policies or corporate strategies. The evolutionary approach is gaining currency amongst academics in business and management studies, as it embraces political and philosophical debates about the economy. This text brings together leading authorities in the field to examine and explain in a lucid, clear andauthoritative way the changing nature of relations within and between national economies.
