Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this important study Hays argues against the mainstream that any attempt to account for the nature and method of Paul's theological language must first reckon with the centrality of narrative elements in his thought. Through an in-depth investigation of Galatians 3:1-4:11, Hays shows that the framework of Paul's thought is neither a system of doctrines nor his personal religious experience but the "sacred story" of Jesus Christ.

Book Stop Asking Jesus Into Your Heart

Download or read book Stop Asking Jesus Into Your Heart written by J. D. Greear and published by B&H Publishing Group. This book was released on 2013-02-01 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “If there were a Guinness Book of World Records entry for ‘amount of times having prayed the sinner’s prayer,’ I’m pretty sure I’d be a top contender,” says pastor and author J. D. Greear. He struggled for many years to gain an assurance of salvation and eventually learned he was not alone. “Lack of assurance” is epidemic among evangelical Christians. In Stop Asking Jesus Into Your Heart, J. D. shows that faulty ways of present- ing the gospel are a leading source of the confusion. Our presentations may not be heretical, but they are sometimes misleading. The idea of “asking Jesus into your heart” or “giving your life to Jesus” often gives false assurance to those who are not saved—and keeps those who genuinely are saved from fully embracing that reality. Greear unpacks the doctrine of assurance, showing that salvation is a posture we take to the promise of God in Christ, a posture that begins at a certain point and is maintained for the rest of our lives. He also answers the tough questions about assurance: What exactly is faith? What is repentance? Why are there so many warnings that seem to imply we can lose our salvation? Such issues are handled with respect to the theological rigors they require, but Greear never loses his pastoral sensitivity or a communication technique that makes this message teachable to a wide audience from teens to adults.

Book Teachings of Presidents of the Church Brigham Young

Download or read book Teachings of Presidents of the Church Brigham Young written by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and published by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This book was released on with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The prophet Brigham Young taught the restored gospel of Jesus Christ in a basic, practical way that gave inspiration and hope to the Saints struggling to build a home in the wilderness. Though more than a century has now passed, his words are still fresh and appropriate for us today as we continue the work of building the kingdom of God. President Young declared that as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints we possess the “doctrine of life and salvation for all the honest-in-heart” (DBY, 7). He promised that those who receive the gospel in their hearts will have awakened “within them a desire to know and understand the things of God more than they ever did before in their lives” and will begin to “inquire, read and search and when they go to their Father in the name of Jesus he will not leave them without a witness” (DBY, 450). This book reflects the desire of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles to deepen the doctrinal understanding of Church members and to awaken within them a greater desire to know the things of God. It will inspire and motivate individuals, priesthood quorums, and Relief Society classes to inquire, read, search, and then go to their Father in Heaven for a witness of the truth of these teachings. Each chapter contains two sections—“Teachings of Brigham Young” and “Suggestions for Study.” The first section consists of extracts from Brigham Young’s sermons to the early Saints. Each statement has been referenced, and the original spelling and punctuation have been preserved; however, the sources cited will not be readily available to most members. These original sources are not necessary to have in order to effectively study or teach from this book. Members need not purchase additional references and commentaries to study or teach these chapters. The text provided in this book, accompanied by the scriptures, is sufficient for instruction. Members should prayerfully read and study President Young’s teachings in order to gain new insights into gospel principles and discover how those principles apply to their everyday lives. By faithfully and prayerfully studying these selections, Latter-day Saints will have a greater understanding of gospel principles and will more fully appreciate the profound and inspired teachings of this great prophet. The second section of each chapter offers a series of questions that will encourage thoughtful contemplation, personal application, and discussion of President Young’s teachings. Members should refer to and carefully reread his words on the principle being discussed. Deep and prayerful study of these teachings will inspire members to greater personal commitment and will help them resolve to follow the teachings of the Savior, Jesus Christ. If individuals and families prayerfully follow the principles in this book, they will be blessed and inspired to greater dedication and spirituality, as were the early Saints who heard these words directly from the lips of the “Lion of the Lord” (HC, 7:434)—the prophet, seer, and revelator, President Brigham Young.

Book excerpt: Today Gospel has been twisted in a broad field. Faith in Jesus Christ must be built up on the full revelation of God. However, most evangelists do not equip well before ministering. They lack the structure of faith of the Scriptures. The consequence is that both shepherds and sheep are not walking on the way of truth. Actually, they are falling away. Because of lacking of the foundation of faith based on the full words of God, it is not surprised that even popular evangelists deny that Jesus Christ is the only way of salvation. Let’s tremble before the Word of God and seek Him. John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Isaiah 66:5 “Hear the word of the LORD, ye that tremble at his word; Your brethren that hated you, that cast you out for my name’s sake, said, Let the LORD be glorified: but he shall appear to your joy and they shall be ashamed.”

Book excerpt: What is the biblical gospel? Do the scriptures give us a clear picture of what God requires (or doesn’t) for salvation? There is only one way to obtain salvation and the language, context and logic of all of the Bible’s authors demonstrate precisely what the authentic gospel message is. The gospel must be clearly understood in order to tell others the good news of salvation. Some have either added to, or subtracted from, the gospel, thereby rendering it confusing, misleading, or ineffective. The Word of God emphasizes the one true way of salvation from cover to cover. No Bible student, pastor, teacher or Christian leader should be without this careful, incisive and revealing analysis of the precision and clarity of the biblical language that unfolds the “good news” about Jesus Christ. The reader is invited on a biblical journey, with the original writers, as they identify Jesus, who gives eternal life to those who put their trust in Him.

Book Salvation and Sovereignty

Download or read book Salvation and Sovereignty written by Kenneth Keathley and published by B&H Publishing Group. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Salvation and Sovereignty, Kenneth Keathley asks, “What shall a Christian do who is convinced of certain central tenets of Calvinism but not its corollaries?” He then writes, “I see salvation as a sovereign work of grace but suspect that the usual Calvinist understanding of sovereignty (that God is the cause of all things) is not sustained by the biblical witness as a whole.” Aiming to resolve this matter, the author argues that just three of Calvinism’s five TULIP points can be defended scripturally and instead builds on the ROSES acronym first presented by Timothy George (Radical depravity, Overcoming grace, Sovereign election, Eternal life, Singular redemption). In relation, Keathley looks at salvation and sovereignty through the lens of Molinism, a doctrine named after Luis Molina (1535-1600) that is based on a strong notion of God’s control and an equally firm affirmation of human freedom.

Book The Hope of Salvation

    Book Details:
  • Author : Harding Hedgpeth
  • Publisher : Xulon Press
  • Release : 2008-04

  • Pages : 202 pages

Download or read book The Hope of Salvation written by Harding Hedgpeth and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2008-04 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today, many churches teach that once a person believes and trusts in Jesus Christ, their Salvation is assured. They can know with certainty that they will go to heaven.no matter what. The churches further teach that the individual has no part to play in their salvation. God does it all. These teachings are not Biblical. The Bible teaches that no person can know their ultimate destiny. The best one can do is to live a life of demonstrated faith and hope they will make it to heaven. Indeed, a person does have a part to play in their destiny, and by their choices they can stay on the pathway that leads to salvation or they can depart from it. This book clarifies the Biblical path to Salvation, articulates a Biblical argument that refutes the 'assurance of salvation' doctrine and reveals the spiritual dangers that are produced by this teaching. Harding Hedgpeth is a professional test pilot and the holder of 9 aviation world records set in the B-1 Bomber. He has no formal theological training. He does not belong to any formal church. As he characterizes himself, he is a disciple of Jesus Christ, cleverly disguised as a test pilot. Harding was raised as a Presbyterian, married a Catholic and didn't realize that the Bible was God's truth until 1987 when he was 40 years old. He has immersed himself in the study of God's Word ever since. The study of God's Word led him to realize that today's churches are leading their parishioners astray in some important areas. One of those areas is the doctrine of 'the assurance of salvation.' Accordingly, Harding felt a strong compulsion to write this book. Though a relatively short book, it has taken four years to research and one year to write.

Book Salvation As a Mechanical Process

Download or read book Salvation As a Mechanical Process written by Richard E. Davies and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-02-14 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christians have been taught that Jesus died on the cross to pay a fine or ransom to expiate or atone for our sins. Furthermore, they have been taught that the death of Jesus is the only way individuals can receive eternal salvation. In general, this notion is called the "doctrine of blood atonement" or "penal substitution," or some similar name. One reason for this teaching is that the development of Newtonian mechanics has led us to believe that God's "laws of salvation" must be as easy to understand as the seventeenth- and eighteenth-century "laws" of our physical world. This book demonstrates that there are alternatives for understanding Jesus' execution that are consistent with the twentieth- and twenty-first-century understanding of our physical world. In fact, the early Christian writers (including the Bible itself) described these alternatives. "Sacrifice" was only one form of the early Christian narrative explaining the death of Jesus. Although "blood atonement" was understandable in ancient Roman culture, it is not understandable in our culture. The inevitable conclusion is that we should abandon "blood atonement" and develop one of the alternative ways of understanding the cosmic significance of Jesus' execution.
