Book True Grace

Download or read book True Grace written by Wendy Leigh and published by Macmillan. This book was released on 2008-06-10 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Her Serene Highness, Princess Grace of Monaco, the legendary Hollywood screen siren, Grace Kelly is an American icon whose beauty is unrivalled, and whose oft-imitated aristocratic style and cool elegance has never been eclipsed. Wendy Leigh- after three years' research - has gained unprecedented access to over one hundred sources who have never talked about Grace before, including nine of her until now undisclosed romances - among them an English aristocrat, an American tennis player, and a Hollywood legend - and also including her priest friend, Father Peter Jacobs, and Bernard Combemal, the former head of the S.B.M, the consortium that runs Monaco. Wendy Leigh provides revealing new details about Grace's life, including her premarital romantic swan song which took place during her voyage to Monaco, the hitherto untold story of her troubling relationship with bridesmaid, Carolyn Reybold and the moving story of Grace's lifelong relationship with actor, David Niven. Wendy Leigh paints a compelling portrait of Grace, the ambitious young actress, Grace, the dutiful princess who transformed the principality of Monaco into a jet-set haven, Grace, the kind-hearted philanthropist, Grace, the loving mother, and Grace, the patriotic American. Wendy Leigh's book has not been written for those readers who wish to view Grace as a saint, but for those who - like Leigh herself - believes that she was a strong and wonderful woman.

Book excerpt: Extract from Augustine's Retractions (Book II, Chapter 42): At that time also there came into my hands a certain book of Pelagius', in which he defends, with all the argumentative skill he could muster, the nature of man, in opposition to the grace of God whereby the unrighteous is justified and we become Christians. The treatise which contains my reply to him, and in which I defend grace, not indeed as in opposition to nature, but as that which liberates and controls nature, I have entitled On Nature and Grace. In this work sundry short passages, which were quoted by Pelagius as the words of the Roman bishop and martyr, Xystus, were vindicated by myself as if they really were the words of this Sixtus. For this I thought them at the time; but I afterwards discovered, that Sextus the heathen philosopher, and not Xystus the Christian bishop, was their author. This treatise of mine begins with the words: 'The book which you sent me.'"

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A major work in moral philosophy by the Puritan who was the most modern man of his age. "Edwards at his very greatest . . . he speaks with an insight into science and psychology so much ahead of his time that our own can hardly be said to have caught up with him." Perry Miller, 'Jonathan Edwards' Like the great speculators Augustine, Aquinas, and Pascal, Jonathan Edwards treated religious ideas as problems not of dogma, but of life. His exploration of self-love disguised as "true virtue" is grounded in the hard facts of human behavior. More than a hellfire preacher, more than a theologian, Edwards was a bold and independent philosopher. Nowhere is his force of mind more evident than in this book. He speaks as powerfully to us today as he did to the keenest minds of the eighteenth century.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every word of God was breathed into Holy Scriptures given to chosen apostles worthy of the honor; men who risked persecution and their lives for the Lord. Most of the letters that they shared in the New Testament were written almost 2000 years ago. Through the passage of time differing translations have emerged. However, this evolution is not an advancement. Modern perspectives of the Bible often influence followers into worldliness, emphasizing receiving above giving. They create the believer who banks on security rather than walking in faith, the believer who seeks popularity and things of the world rather than the Kingdom of God. The new believer has effectually lost the obedience, boldness and zeal that filled the apostles of days old. This is the misfortunate consequence of the wrong teaching on Grace. The Word of God is difficult to receive where the wisdom of man reigns. It is the responsibility of the believer to remain unswayed by the numerous translations that aim to turn his head It is important to have a right perspective of God's mind, His thought process and His Nature. Only with true surrender and Obedience to His Word can an intimate relationship with God be gained. For Jesus is the Word. The True Grace of God was revealed through Jesus Christ, The Word. We need proper exegesis when determining what God is saying in His Word. In the pursuit of truth, the Bible is what interprets the Bible. True Grace must be kept Immaculate. " Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. " Matthew 7:14

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Author Jeremy B. Strang bids you to come on a seven day journey into The Foothills of True Grace. “To merely read, study or become a scholar of the Bible to gain knowledge is one thing, but to have the Scriptures ravage the old man that still tries to live within, to break him, and to be remade by the true Gospel of grace is entirely another thing – I much prefer the latter.”This devotional is only the beginning in entering the journey of God's authentic grace. The intent of this book is to take you on a brief seven day journey into the beginning foothills of Christ's incredible work of redemption. My hope is that every time you hear the word grace, you would immediately think upon Jesus Christ and His finished work on Calvary's hill. He alone drank the cup that you and I deserved; He alone deserves all the credit, all the glory and all the praise. May we be drawn nigh unto our Lord and Savior!

Book excerpt: What does the grace of God look like? Originally a sermon series preached by Pastor Wade Burleson at Emmanuel Enid in Enid, OK, The Face of Grace: Knowing & Living True Grace gives readers an in-depth look at what living out the doctrines of grace actually looks like - if it had a face. Burleson argues that until you are captivated by God's amazing grace, it will be impossible to show grace to others. The Face of Grace is designed to help you recognize God's grace and then empower you to live real grace in your relationships with others. "Grace puts its hand on the boasting mouth and shuts it once and for all." Charles Spurgeon "Your worst days are never so bad that you are beyond the reach of God's grace and your best days are never so good that you are beyond the need of God's grace." Jerry Bridges "Grace comes into the soul like the morning sun into the world. First a dawning, then a light, and at last the sun in its full and excellent brightness" Thomas Adams
