Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Governments across the globe have begun evolving from lumbering bureaucracies into smaller, more agile special jurisdictions - common-interest developments, special economic zones, and proprietary cites. Private providers increasingly deliver services that political authorities formerly monopolized, inspiring greater competition and efficiency, to the satisfaction of citizens-qua-consumers. These trends suggest that new networks of special jurisdictions will soon surpass nation states in the same way that networked computers replaced mainframes. In this groundbreaking work, Tom W. Bell describes the quiet revolution transforming governments from the bottom up, inside-out, worldwide, and how it will fulfill its potential to bring more freedom, peace, and prosperity to people everywhere.

Book Immigration and Self government of Minority Nations

Download or read book Immigration and Self government of Minority Nations written by Ricard Zapata-Barrero and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2009 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the last two decades, the debate on multiculturalism has been one-dimensional. It has deployed arguments related to cultural demands linked either to feminism, immigration, or national minorities. Little attention has been given to the relations between these dimensions, and how they affect each other. The purpose of this book is to set a research agenda around the interaction between cultural demands of immigrants and minority nations. The primary aim is to establish basic normative arguments while advancing an institutional analysis in three contexts: Quebec, Flanders and Catalonia. Each part contains two chapters that address the topic in terms of how immigration is seen from a self-government perspective, or how self-government is interpreted from an immigration perspective. The different chapters raise questions related to how this interaction challenges the idea of a culturally homogeneous nation-state, and also pushes us to other conceptualisations of «political community» and de-nationalised forms of citizenship. Current debates on diversity have failed to address these issues in societies where a dual belonging exists.

Book Competitiveness Of Nations 2 The Government Policies And Business Strategies For Environmental Social And Governance Esg

Download or read book Competitiveness Of Nations 2 The Government Policies And Business Strategies For Environmental Social And Governance Esg written by Dong-sung Cho and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2023-05-25 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As countries around the world seek to enhance their economies while facing the challenges of climate change and income inequality, national competitiveness is an important marker of the related strengths and weaknesses that policymakers will need to address. Among the existing reports on national competitiveness and rankings, such as IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook and WEF Global Competitiveness Report, there are sizable discrepancies in the ranking order for the same countries. As a result, confusion arises as such an outcome creates difficulties for government officials when translating these findings into real-world policies. The reality is that these discrepancies are due to the differences in logic and analytical models used by IMD and WEF. Therefore, in recognizing such problems and limitations, The Competitiveness of Nations 2 presents the IPS model as a new approach. Building on from Michael Porter's diamond model, it demonstrates a robust set of methodologies as well as offers several key policy implications for economies around the world that wish to enhance their competitiveness. The analytical tools used in this book can be further utilized for other units of analysis such as industries and individual firms. As this book provides a series of sophisticated methodologies and specific guidelines for enhancing national competitiveness, both academics and practitioners can derive useful implications. This annual book series was launched in 2021 and has included timely topics and in-depth discussion on national competitiveness. The first edition dealt with the COVID-19 global pandemic and the US-China trade war as its key focus. For this second edition, the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) issue has been selected given its growing impact on strategic decision-making at both firm and country levels for sustainable competitiveness. This edition explores the development of ESG in various regions including Asia (Japan, Korea, India), Europe (Russia), Latin America (Peru), and Africa (Sub-Saharan Africa). It addresses how firms can contribute to ESG, and what governments should do to incentivize or regulate firms' engagement in its practices.

Book First Nations Self Government

Download or read book First Nations Self Government written by Leroy Wolf Collar and published by Brush Education. This book was released on 2020-01-17 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Indigenous Peoples in Canada are continuing to assert their right to self-determination in this era of reconciliation. While dozens of Indigenous communities have signed varying forms of self-government agreements with the federal government, Indigenous Nations still face many obstacles along the path to true self-determination. As a former Chief of Siksika Nation in southern Alberta, Leroy Wolf Collar dealt with many of the same problems other Indigenous Nations face across the country. From serious housing shortages to the lack of opportunities for youth, Chief Wolf Collar experienced the challenges and frustrations that come from operating in a colonial system still constrained by the Indian Act. How do Indigenous Peoples move on from this defective system? Chief Wolf Collar identifies 17 issues that currently hinder Indigenous Nations—including broken treaty promises, problems with common forms of band administration, and the intrusion of provincial governments—along with potential solutions to overcome them. This guide is for current and aspiring Indigenous leaders who want to increase their understanding of good governance, management, and leadership, as well as those who want to explore issues around Indigenous self-determination in Canada.
