Book excerpt: SHOUT OF TRIUMPH Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound! Psalm 89:15 Do you know the joyful sound of the shout of triumph! The Apostle Paul used the picture of a Roman general leading his troops in triumph to help the early church understand the celebration of Christ's victory. In this book you can learn what it means to follow Christ in triumph with a joyful shout in your heart. You can learn what it means to wear the victory crown and robe, wave banners, lift up the scepter, and operate in the gifts of triumph. Only as the church is fully confident of its position in triumph will it effectively carry out the work of Christ in the earth. Our Lord wants all of His followers to be more than conquerors! Sharon Lantis, MD is a retired physician. She serves as an elder on the staff of Lighthouse Church on the Rock in Madison, WI. She has led Bible studies and been a speaker at Christian women's meetings. Dr. Lantis has been married to her husband Dr. Larry Lantis for 42 years. They make their home in Madison.

Book excerpt: Although temptation is a common and well-acknowledged part of the human experience, few realize the truth behind temptation and fewer still know how to defeat it. Tempted and Tried will not reassure Christians by claiming that temptation is less powerful or less prevalent than it is; instead, it will prepare believers for battle by telling the truth about the cosmic war that is raging. Moore shows that the temptation of every Christian is part of a broader conspiracy against God, a conspiracy that confronts everyone who shares the flesh of Jesus through human birth and especially confronts those who share the Spirit of Christ through the new birth of redemption. Moore walks readers through the Devil's ancient strategies for temptation revealed in Jesus' wilderness testing. Moore considers how those strategies might appear in a contemporary context and points readers to a way of escape. Tempted and Tried will remind Christians that temptation must be understood in terms of warfare, encouraging them with the truth that victory has already been secured through the triumph of Christ.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Body of the Cross is a study of holy victims in Western Christian history and how the uses of their bodies in Christian thought led to the idea of the cross as a substitutionary sacrifice. Since its first centuries, Christianity has traded on the suffering of victims—martyrs, mystics, and heretics—as substitutes for the Christian social body. These victims secured holiness, either by their own sacred power or by their reprobation and rejection. Just as their bodies were mediated in eucharistic, social, and Christological ways, so too did the flesh of Jesus Christ become one of those holy substitutes. But it was only late in Western history that he took on the function of the exemplary victim. In tracing the story of this embodied development, The Body of the Cross gives special attention to popular spirituality, religious dissent, and the writing of women throughout Christian history. It examines the symbol of the cross as it functions in key moments throughout this history, including the parting of the ways of Judaism and Christianity, the gnostic debates, martyr traditions, and medieval affective devotion and heresy. Finally, in a Reformation era haunted by divine wrath, these themes concentrated in the unique concept that Jesus Christ died on the cross to absorb divine punishment for sin: a holy body and a rejected body in one.

Book Doctrine and Difference

Download or read book Doctrine and Difference written by Michael J. Colacurcio and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-07-29 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Doctrine and Difference: Readings in Classic American Literature aims to expand and deepen the inquiry begun in the volume from 2007. Beginning with an essay on the avowedly Puritan poetry of Anne Bradstreet and ending with two not-quite-secular novels from late in the 19th century, this volume seeks to uncover the religious and philosophical meanings deeply embedded in so much of 19th century American literature, and then, importantly, to identify and analyze the techniques by which the "doctrines" are differentiated into imaginative literature. Poe, Emerson, Thoreau, Hawthorne, Melville—and yes, even Howells and James—are driven by powerful thematic intentions. But they do not preach: they dramatize. And, as they talk their way through their existential issues, they often talk to one another: yes, no, maybe, ok but not so fast. Stressing the idea of a shared, poet-Puritan inheritance, the new Doctrine and Difference means to re-confirm the vitality of literary history and, in particular, the importance of reading the classic texts of American literature in context and in relation.

Download or read book Testimony of Triumph written by John M. Drescher and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2002-07-08 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Down through the years many books have been written to help us plumb the depth of sin, to help us understand the significance of Calvary. Today there is a dearth of writings about the cross and particularly about the seven times that Jesus spoke from the cross. These utterances of Christ are known as the Òseven last words of JesusÓ or Òthe seven words of the cross.Ó Yet, in a most striking way, the words of Jesus from the cross tell us the essential meaning of Christ's coming and death. This book on Christ's words from the cross is shared with the deep desire that readers may see, not only the centrality of the cross for salvation, but also the centrality of the cross in enabling us to live the Christ life. These messages were written to help the reader identify with the cross for salvation. But they do not stop there. They also insist on an identification with the cross to the point that we die to the old life and walk in a newness of life.

Book The Voice of his Blood

Download or read book The Voice of his Blood written by Pastor Ronald Grant and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2024-09-11 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The opening of the eyes of our understanding and spiritual knowledge of the truth of God's Word is absolutely necessary for deliverance from the spirit of deception. Without the opening of the eyes of our spiritual understanding, freedom is impossible. Satan can actually overcome us and bring us into bondage even when we believe God by faith if we do not exert action in the spiritual realm. When you have discerned the deception of the enemy and recognized the conversations of the enemy within the mind and wills of the flesh (that of physical impulse), you will begin to gain ground on the enemy of your soul. Deception unlatches the gate for evil spirits to come in; passivity provides a place for them to stay. This combination of deception and passivity equals entrenchment of the soul (mind, will, emotions). The common factor for entrenchment is the inactivity of your own God-given free will. We as Christians in our ignorance have been deceived by the powers of the darkness and have fulfilled the conditions for the enemy to work in our lives.
