Book excerpt: Annotation The origins of life, species and man continue to interest scientists and stir debate among the general public more than one hundred and fifty years after Charles Darwin published 'On the Origin of Species'. 'The Evolution Myth' approaches the subject with two intertwined objectives: firstly, Jirí A. Mejsnar first sets out to convey the advances made in cosmology, molecular biology, genetics, and other sciences that have enabled us to change our views on our origins and our relationship with the universe; his second objective is to use biology to explain why evolution cannot have taken place in the way that is most commonly assumed.

Download or read book The MYTH about EVOLUTION written by John Constantine Capleton and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2021-08-08 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: - Do you ever have questions about the universe and how it came into being? - Have you ever wondered where you came from and what is your purpose in this life? - Do you think it would help if you were presented with a rational, scientific explanation as to the origin of the universe and life as we know it? This book offers scientific evidence about the origin of the universe that leaves no doubt that it was planned and executed to manifest itself as an ordered system. This order is apparent in the very fabric of matter and life as we know it. There is a direct link between matter and life that can be traced back to a single origin or reference. Its structure and manifestation are defined by an intelligent designer. Any ordered system must have a fixed reference as its origin, with sequential components that can only be directed by an intelligent designer. This process is far from random as, by definition, it is ordered. Only intelligence has the ability to define and execute order. The idea for this book came from a prophesy that was communicated to me which, at the time, I did not understand. I was told I would get wisdom from the HOLY SPIRIT and to get it I would need to do nothing. The next few months I kept wondering 'what could it be', but kept an open mind. I then started getting thoughts about the universe and the order manifested in it. I discovered that this order is universal in its manifestation. What causes order in the universe? Can it initiate itself? When I thought about the law of entropy it was obvious that order had to be planned and then communicated to matter for it to conform. Order requires sequencing and timing and there has to be a fixed reference before it can be successfully used in a practical application. This book is a summary of the more common ordered systems in our world and shows that planning, referencing, sequencing and sometimes timing are an integral part of all ordered systems. Intelligence is the most important element in developing an ordered system as intelligence sets the reference and all other components in the system. It was also evident that this principle is applicable to our thought process. GOD gave us commandments to help us maintain spiritual order, but also free choice so we could disobey them. However, disobeying would result in SIN or disorder. Since the universe is an ordered system it must have been initiated or created by an intelligent being, GOD. Intelligence defines and creates order. Order and randomness are mutually exclusive. The process of evolution cannot, therefore, create order because it has no fixed reference or understanding of sequencing. Order also needs constant maintenance. Uploaded to site.

Book Religion in Human Evolution

Download or read book Religion in Human Evolution written by Robert N. Bellah and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2017-05-08 with total page 777 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A New York Times Book Review Editors’ Choice An ABC Australia Best Book on Religion and Ethics of the Year Distinguished Book Award, Sociology of Religion Section of the American Sociological Association Religion in Human Evolution is a work of extraordinary ambition—a wide-ranging, nuanced probing of our biological past to discover the kinds of lives that human beings have most often imagined were worth living. It offers what is frequently seen as a forbidden theory of the origin of religion that goes deep into evolution, especially but not exclusively cultural evolution. “Of Bellah’s brilliance there can be no doubt. The sheer amount this man knows about religion is otherworldly...Bellah stands in the tradition of such stalwarts of the sociological imagination as Emile Durkheim and Max Weber. Only one word is appropriate to characterize this book’s subject as well as its substance, and that is ‘magisterial.’” —Alan Wolfe, New York Times Book Review “Religion in Human Evolution is a magnum opus founded on careful research and immersed in the ‘reflective judgment’ of one of our best thinkers and writers.” —Richard L. Wood, Commonweal

Book The Evolution of Tolkien s Mythology

Download or read book The Evolution of Tolkien s Mythology written by Elizabeth A. Whittingham and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2017-06-30 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The History of Middle-earth traces the evolution of J.R.R. Tolkien's literary world, stories, and characters from their earliest written forms to the final revisions Tolkien penned shortly before his death in 1973. Published posthumously by Tolkien's son Christopher, the extensively detailed 12-volume work allows readers to follow the development of the texts that eventually became Tolkien's immensely popular The Hobbit, The Lord of The Rings, The Silmarillion, and Unfinished Tales. This work provides a thorough study of Tolkien's life and influences through an analysis of The History of Middle-earth. The work begins with a brief biography and an analysis of the major influences in Tolkien's life. Following chapters deal with elements common to Tolkien's popular works, including the cosmogony, theogony, cosmology, metaphysics, and eschatology of Middle-earth. The study also reviews some of the myths with which Tolkien was most familiar--Greek, Roman, Finnish, and Norse--and reveals the often overlapping relationship between mythology, biblical stories, and Tolkien's popular works.

Book The Science of Evolution and the Myth of Creationism

Download or read book The Science of Evolution and the Myth of Creationism written by Ardea Skybreak and published by Insight Press, Inc. This book was released on 2006-09-01 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This clear, lively, and systematic presentation examines the scientific evidence for evolution and reaches for the widest possible audience—from scientific minds to those with no science background at all. Forcefully rejecting creationist objections to evolution and including a critique of Intelligent Design, it argues that they are part of a larger social agenda. With discussion that celebrates the fascination to be found in studying the diversity and complexity of life, this examination suggests with some urgency that the science of evolution is crucial to the existence of science itself.

Book God After Darwin

  • Author : John F. Haught
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2018-05-04
  • ISBN : 0429979797
  • Pages : 326 pages

Download or read book God After Darwin written by John F. Haught and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-05-04 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In God After Darwin, eminent theologian John F. Haught argues that the ongoing debate between Darwinian evolutionists and Christian apologists is fundamentally misdirected: Both sides persist in focusing on an explanation of underlying design and order in the universe. Haught suggests that what is lacking in both of these competing ideologies is the notion of novelty, a necessary component of evolution and the essence of the unfolding of the divine mystery. He argues that Darwin's disturbing picture of life, instead of being hostile to religion-as scientific skeptics and many believers have thought it to be-actually provides a most fertile setting for mature reflection on the idea of God. Solidly grounded in scholarship, Haught's explanation of the relationship between theology and evolution is both accessible and engaging. The second edition of God After Darwin features an entirely new chapter on the ongoing, controversial debate between intelligent design and evolution, including an assessment of Haught's experience as an expert witness in the landmark case of Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District on teaching evolution and intelligent design in schools.

Book Neo liberal Genetics

Download or read book Neo liberal Genetics written by Susan McKinnon and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evolutionary psychology claims to be the authoritative science of "human nature." Its chief architects, including Stephen Pinker and David Buss, have managed to reach well beyond the ivory tower to win large audiences and influence public discourse. But do the answers that evolutionary psychologists provide about language, sex, and social relations add up? Susan McKinnon thinks not. Far from being an account of evolution and social relations that has historical and cross-cultural validity, evolutionary psychology is a stunning example of a "science" that twists evolutionary genetics into a myth of human origins. As McKinnon shows, that myth is shaped by neo-liberal economic values and relies on ethnocentric understandings of sex, gender, kinship, and social relations. She also explores the implications for public policy of the moral tales that are told by evolutionary psychologists in the guise of "scientific" inquiry. Drawing widely from the anthropological record, Neo-liberal Genetics offers a sustained and accessible critique of the myths of human nature fabricated by evolutionary psychologists.
