Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The wind howled through the old seaside town of Port Raven, carrying with it the salty scent of the sea and the mournful cry of seagulls. The streets were empty, the shops dark and silent as the townspeople huddled in their homes, seeking solace from the storm that raged outside. But there was one place in Port Raven that remained untouched by the howling wind and driving rain – the tiny, ramshackle cottage that sat on the edge of the cliffs overlooking the sea. It was here that old Martha lived, a woman known to the locals as a wise woman, a healer, and a keeper of secrets. But most importantly, she was known as a storyteller, someone who could weave tales of magic and mystery that would enchant and terrify in equal measure. On this stormy night, a group of young men and women had gathered in Martha's cottage, drawn by the promise of a ghostly tale that would chill them to their very bones. They sat around the crackling fire, the flames casting eerie shadows on the walls as Martha began her tale. "Tonight, my friends, I will tell you a story of a ghostly galleon, a cursed ship that haunts the waters off the coast of Port Raven," Martha began, her voice low and hypnotic. "Legend has it that the galleon was once a proud vessel, sailing the seven seas in search of treasure and adventure. But one fateful night, a terrible storm struck, driving the ship onto the rocks and dooming all who sailed upon her to a watery grave." The group shivered, their eyes wide with fear as Martha's words painted a vivid picture of the doomed ship and its spectral crew.

Book The Mystery of Everett Ruess

Download or read book The Mystery of Everett Ruess written by W. L. Rusho and published by Gibbs Smith. This book was released on 2010-09-01 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story of a young artist who walked into the Southwestern desert and vanished, and the legends he left behind—includes his personal correspondence. The story of Everett Ruess, who set out into the desert with two burros in 1934 and disappeared into the wilderness of Southern Utah, has for decades been one of the most intriguing mysteries of western lore. A Californian off on an adventure at the age of twenty, he loved poetry, nature, art, and beauty. His family had tracked his wanderings for four years as he explored Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico—and then Everett disappeared without a trace. Then, in 2008, an old Navajo Indian came forward with information that he had witnessed a murder in 1934, probably that of young Ruess. In addition to extensive letters by Ruess himself providing an insight into his mind and heart, this book tells how the bones were recovered and multiple DNA tests were done amid much suspense and speculation, and how a family was affected by the ultimate results. Includes a new epilogue

Book excerpt: Still the wave built without breaking, the Andorinha’s keel riding its crest. Majestically she raced shoreward, carried by the wave’s immense power. She must have been riding twenty feet above the ground when the wave crossed the shoreline and, although it was now breaking, the ship’s forward momentum continued. Her hull scraped over the low dunes, coming to rest in the shallow waters of a swamp. A two-year journey … a lifetime of preparation … a disaster of unmitigated proportion; caused by forces beyond Hosea’s control. How could he now complete the voyage for his king and country? What of the men whose faith in his leadership had remained firm in spite of earlier difficulties they had encountered? This a story about the Age of Discovery. A time that has had its history re-written as more discoveries have unlocked the truth about the first Europeans in Australia. Could this be another time?

That's why he's here on Maine's isolated Osprey Island: to heal and move on. But how can he face going back to being a Massachusetts state police officer since he's sworn off ever playing hero again? Unfortunately, Sean can't avoid heroics when neighboring Connie Bradford's daughter keeps getting into trouble. And the fiercely independent Connie makes it clear she doesn't need a rescuer— reluctant or otherwise. The mother-and-daughter antics make his solitude seem almost too quiet. Despite himself, Sean finds this pair wrestling their way into his heart…as if they belong there.
