Download or read book Muses written by Z J Galos and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2022-09-21 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inspired by Andre Brink's book: "Before I forget," I have thought about my own Muses, who I met during my life, and who inspired me to write poetry - love poetry - short stories, and novels. I have been blessed by so many wonderful women, who have been great friends, besides partaking with me in various sessions at 'Writers Write' workshops, assisting me with forging my enthusiasm for writing into an emerging personal style under Amanda's caring guidance. Much later, I realized the quality of those writing workshops that brought out the best in us in search of self-expression in our literary efforts. I wish to honor them all, writing about their importance to me, their dedication and time, during our relationships. Experiencing friendship and love will be the motor for inspired writing and the greatest gift for the poet. Muses appear in person and their number might be three, six, and nine, depending on their tasks, as known from Classical Greek mythology. Picasso stated that an artist has his personal Muse, extending their numbers to ten. In this sense, I have a peek at my artistic endeavors by experiencing my own tenth Muse. who guided me along to my self-realization in the arts.
Download or read book Rhesos written by Euripides and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1978-03-23 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story of a futile quest for knowledge, this ancient anti-war drama is one of the neglected plays within the corpus of Greek tragedy. Euripides' shortest tragic work, Rhesos is unique in lacking a prologue, provoking some scholars to the conclusion that the beginning of the play has been lost. In this exciting translation, Rhesos is no longer treated as a derivative Euripidean work, but rather as the tightly-knit tragedy of knowledge it really is. A drama in which profound problems of fate and free will come alive, Rhesos is also an exploration of the perversion of values that come as the r.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on the conviction that only translators who write poetry themselves can best re-create the celebrated and timeless tragedies of Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides, the Greek Tragedy in New Translations series offers new translations that go beyond the literal meaning of the Greek in order to evoke the poetry of the originals. The tragedies collected here were originally available as single volumes. This new collection retains the informative introductions and explanatory notes of the original editions, with Greek line numbers and a single combined glossary added for easy reference. This volume collects Euripides' Andromache, a play that challenges the concept of tragic character and transforms expectations of tragic structure; Hecuba, a powerful story of the unjustifiable sacrifice of Hecuba's daughter and the consequent destruction of Hecuba's character; Trojan Women, a particularly intense account of human suffering and uncertainty; and Rhesos, the story of a futile quest for knowledge.

Book excerpt: The sequel to Muses, the first Memoir, has come to me naturally, meeting women who became Muses. Some of them have been with me for many years. And since my art exhibition called: Musai (Muses), where I depicted my artistic response to the image of the Classical Muses with a contemporary style, and was accepted by the Fine Arts School of Athens, at their gallery in Plaka, the Muses seem to have honored me with their presence, whenever I write, draw, and paint. They have been the motor for my artistic endeavors, creating poetry and prose, drawings, and paintings. I have been visited, especially by three Muses, who invited me to dance with them. I gladly followed and could achieve an inspired record with my second book: MUSES II - The Poet who enjoys dancing with his Muses.
Download or read book Psyche and the Literary Muses written by Martin S. Lindauer and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2009-06-11 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Psyche and the Literary Muses focuses on the psychology of literature from an empirical point of view, rather than the more typical psychoanalytic position, and concentrates on literary content rather than readers or writers. The book centers on the author’s quantitative studies of brief literary and quasi-literary forms, ranging from titles of short stories and names of literary characters to clichés and quotations from literary sources, in demonstrating their contribution to the topics of learning, perception, thinking, emotions, creativity, and especially person perception and aging. More broadly, Psyche bears on literary studies, art, and psychology in general, as well as interdisciplinarity. This book deepens the understanding and appreciation of literature for scholars, academics and the general reader.

Download or read book The Pagan Dream of the Renaissance written by Joscelyn Godwin and published by Weiser Books. This book was released on 2005-02-10 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Pagan Dream of the Renaissance recounts the almost untold story of how the rediscovery of the pagan, mythological imagination during the Renaissance brought a profound transformation to European culture. This highly illustrated book, available for the first time in paperback, shows that the pagan imagination existed side-by-side -- often uneasily -- with the official symbols, doctrines, and art of the Church. Godwin carefully documents how pagan themes and gods enhanced both public and private life. Palaces and villas were decorated with mythological images/ stories, music, and dramatic pageants were written about pagan themes/ and landscapes were designed to transform the soul. This was a time of great social and cultural change, when the pagan idea represented nostalgia for a classical world untroubled by the idea of sin and in no need of redemption.A stunning book with hundreds of photos that bring alive this period with all its rich conflict between Christianity and classicism.
