Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Livy describes the Etruscans as filling the whole of ancient Italy with their power and influence. While Etruscan rule throughout large parts of the Italian peninsula endured for but a few centuries, Etruscan influence was so extensive that in some respects it continues into the present. Outside the Etruscan heartland, Rome itself was perhaps the best preserver of things Etruscan. The fourteen essays comprising this volume explore Etruscan Italy and examine the influence exerted by Etruscan civilization upon the cultures of Italy in Roman and post-Roman times. Represented are contributions from various disciplines which converge to employ multiple methodologies in a comprehensive approach to delineating the enduring themes of Etruscan Italy.

Professor Peshich discovered, however, that the script had previously been used by the peoples having had lived in the Middle Danube Basin. The script is identical to the Etruscan script, and to a great deal to the above-mentioned Phoenician script as well, from which stem all the other afore said scripts. Subsequently, the Phoenicians had taken the script from the peoples living in the north. (From preface of Giacomo Giraldi)

Book On the Months de Mensibus

Download or read book On the Months de Mensibus written by Ioannes Lydus and published by . This book was released on 2014-06-26 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this edition is textual and translational in nature. Since the works of Lydus are replete with Latin vocabulary, this book serves to bring it into English. The translation is faithful to the original and accurate so as to express LydusOCO intended thoughts. His repetitious use of certain linguistic expressions, although sometimes awkward to render to English, have been retained in order to capture his peculiar linguistic and seemingly crabbed style. The book tries to put his words into working English for the first time, and the translators were meticulous in trying to do a tight word for word translation based on the text, free from interpretation."
