This book was released on 2015-11-05 with total page 558 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is, undoubtedly, a brave and intrepid dedication for defending the Messenger of humankind, Muhammad (may God's peace and benediction be upon him and his Progeny). Its author's position can never be more than a sincere companion undertaking the task of defending his Prophet in the Battle of Uhud or Hunayn. Throughout course of history many traditions were, wrongfully and against Allah's Will, ascribed to the Messenger of Allah (S), which he never uttered at all. Had not that quantity of false and fabricated and even hazardous traditions been there, no one among those having mean and debased morality like Salman Rushdie, would have ever dared speaking ill of the Messenger of Allah (God's peace and benediction be upon him and his Progeny). And future, undoubtedly, will be brighter, with emergence of new other realities and other pioneer studies, whereat clouds of darkness shall verily disperse and sun of truth shall rise, God-willing. In this connection, Ansarian Foundation finds it necessary to present its gratitude and veneration to brother Hasan M. Najafi, in recognition of his good efforts and toilsome endeavour in translating, editing and supervising the printing of this book. We implore the Beneficent Allah to reward him for this work, in which he sought nothing but God's pleasure and favour. We implore the Omnipotent the Almighty to help him to achieve more and more munificent contributions to the Islamic cause. He is Hearer and He is Responsive. Download or read book Education Religion and Ethics A Scholarly Collection written by Dianne Rayson and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-04-18 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection draws on research in educational areas displaying best practice pedagogy, theoretical and practical, underpinned by philosophy, empirical science, and neuroscience, among other disciplines. It focusses especially on implications for higher education, school education, professional ethics, and religion. Higher education exploration is on the diminution of the humanities and implications for the range of knowledge needed for future citizenship. The work includes a revisioning of higher education’s purpose, especially the changing role of the doctorate and its examination. The focus on school education takes the same pedagogical lens to humanities and social sciences, examining values education and religious studies. Ethical issues include colonisation and decolonisation, especially around the concept of land and ramifications for intercultural studies. The ethics and practice of teaching about life and death issues in medical education are explored in light of research in dialogic consensus. The religion section includes research on interfaith education, especially concerning Islam, and eco-theological education, especially focussed on climate change. Contributors are academic colleagues or former doctoral students of Terence J. Lovat (University Professor, Australia, UK, and Canada) whose internationally acclaimed research straddles these areas. Many of the contributors hold positions of influence in the academic or professional world, while others bring their newly minted doctoral research to the content. The intended readership includes academics and doctoral students across education, ethics, religion, social studies, ecology, health and medicine, indigenous studies, and international affairs. This collection, published in honour of Emeritus Professor Terence Lovat, provides rich insights into the scope and multidisciplinary depth of his scholarship. A philosopher of education whose main work has centred on curriculum theory and values education and ethics in education, Lovat’s scholarship reminds us that the education of children and young people must be concerned with more than academic attainment. In emphasising education as a holistic and moral endeavour—one involving hearts and minds—Lovat has consistently advocated for the provision of opportunities for young people to extend their horizons beyond the school environment to engage with issues in society that go beyond academic learning. Professor Lovat has also made a major and longstanding contribution to the development of Studies of Religion in schools and to the theology and history of Islam and Islamic Education. In traversing Lovat’s significant and remarkable contributions to education, religion and ethics, and the links between them, this book serves as a testament to a highly esteemed scholar. Associate Professor Deborah Henderson, Queensland University of Technology, Australia

Download or read book Reviving The Balance written by Taha Jabir Alalwani and published by International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT). This book was released on 2017-01-01 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work studies the position of the Sunnah in Islam and its fundamental relationship to the Qur’an. The author carefully examines the sensitive issue of the development of the oral and written traditions, the problems scholars faced despite painstaking work verifying the authenticity of reports, the character of narrators, etc. and the ever growing complexity of a body of narratives that were making the simplicity and clarity of the Prophet’s life, words, and actions, a burgeoning maze of information. Taking the praiseworthy intention and effort to emulate the Prophet into account, the author nevertheless makes the case that once the Sunnah had been collected, the Muslim community began to neglect the Qur’an in favor of narrations of what the Prophet had done and said on the pretext that such narratives “contained” the Qur’an. Eventually they then abandoned the Sunnah narratives in favor of Islamic jurisprudence on the pretext that Islamic juristic texts tacitly included both the Qur’an and the Sunnah. It is with the aim of restoring the relationship between the two that this work has been written, that is, the Prophetic Sunnah must be tied inextricably to the Qur’an in a way that allows for no contradiction or conflict between the two, to avoid misapplication and abuse of hadith, and to meet the requirements and challenges of a new age.
Download or read book Female Personalities in the Qur an and Sunna written by Rawand Osman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-10-03 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates the manner in which the Qur’an and sunna depict female personalities in their narrative literature. Providing a comprehensive study of all the female personalities mentioned in the Qur’an, the book is selective in the personalities of the sunna, examining the three prominent women of ahl al-bayt; Khadija, Fatima, and Zaynab. Analysing the major sources of Imami Shi‘i Islam, including the exegetical compilations of the eminent Shi‘i religious authorities of the classical and modern periods, as well as the authoritative books of Shi’i traditions, this book finds that the varieties of female personalities are portrayed as human beings on different stages of the spiritual spectrum. They display feminine qualities, which are often viewed positively and are sometimes commendable traits for men, at least as far as the spiritual domain is concerned. The theory, particularly regarding women’s humanity, is then tested against the depiction of womanhood in the hadith literature, with special emphasis on Nahj al-Balagha. Contributing a fresh perspective on classical materials, this book will be of interest to students and scholars of Islamic Studies, Women’s Studies and Shi’i Studies.
Download or read book Hadith written by Jonathan A.C. Brown and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2017-12-07 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contrary to popular opinion, the bulk of Islamic law does not come from the Quran but from hadith, first-hand reports of the Prophet Muhammad’s words and deeds, passed from generation to generation. However, with varying accounts often only committed to paper a century after the death of Muhammad, Islamic scholars, past and present, have been faced with complex questions of historical authenticity. In this wide-ranging introduction, Jonathan A. C. Brown explores the collection and criticism of hadith, and the controversy surrounding its role in modern Islam. This edition, revised and updated with additional case studies and attention to the very latest scholarship, also features a new chapter on how hadiths have been used politically, both historically and in the Arab Spring and its aftermath. Informative and accessible, it is perfectly suited to students, scholars and general readers interested in this critical element of Islam.
Download or read book The Wiley Blackwell Concise Companion to The Hadith written by Daniel W. Brown and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-03-09 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most comprehensive and up-to-date English-language guide on hadith scholarship The source of much of our knowledge of the first two centuries of Islamic history, the hadith literature is made up of thousands of traditions collected during the formative years of Islam. Alongside the Qur'an, the hadith forms a second major body of Islamic scripture, and much of Islamic belief and practice rests on the hadith including Islamic law, Islamic theology, Qur'anic interpretation, political thought, and personal behavior. Yet despite its importance to Muslims worldwide and its indispensable role as a source for early Islamic history, the hadith remains unexplored territory for many non-specialist readers. The Wiley Blackwell Companion to the Hadith is a concise yet comprehensive overview of both Islamic and Western traditions of hadith study, offering up-to-date scholarship and providing readers with an essential guide to this distinctive aspect of Islam. Written by a multidisciplinary team of distinguished scholars, the Companion discusses questions of authenticity, epistemology and authority in the hadith and explores the relationship of the hadith literature to other ways of transmitting knowledge and establishing authority. Covers the origins of hadith, the application of hadith within the Islamic intellectual tradition, and contemporary revaluations of hadith literature Addresses developments in modern scholarship about the origins of Islam and Islamic law which are rooted in a revaluation of hadith Presents new and groundbreaking research from international scholars from divergent perspectives to present an accurate and lively overview of the field Explores the emergence of skepticism about hadith among western scholars Surveys the evolution of a wide range of approaches to hadith among modern Muslims Filling a significant gap in current literature in the field, The Wiley Blackwell Companion to the Hadith is a valuable resource for students, scholars, and researchers in Islamic studies, Islamic law, history, and theology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE GREAT EDIFICE of Islamic Law is held up by four towering figures of the early middle ages: Abu Hanifa, Malik, al-Shafi i, and Ibn Hanbal. Because of their immense dedication and intellectual acuity, these men enjoy recognition to this day as Islam s most influential scholars. By assessing and ranking hadith, by cultivating a deep knowledge of the Arabic language, and by virtue of their great native intelligence, they are credited with having shaped the development of the fundamental systems of Muslim jurisprudence, avoiding the twin pitfalls of subjective rationalism and blind literalism. By doing so they not only protected their religion from chaos and disorder, but showed the Muslims, both ordinary and expert, the safest and most reliable ways of avoiding error in the understanding and practice of the divine law. This detailed study offers biographies of these four men and their leading pupils. It surveys the distinctive features of their jurisprudence, and assesses their achievement. An especially helpful feature is a long and detailed glossary of Islamic technical terms. Meticulously rooted in the core texts of Islamic scholarship, this book will be an important resource for Shari`a students everywhere.
