Book Radiation Trapped in the Earth s Magnetic Field

Download or read book Radiation Trapped in the Earth s Magnetic Field written by Billy McCormac and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 903 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the lectures presented at the Advanced Study Institute, 'Radiation Trapped in the Earth's Magnetic Field' which was held at the Bergen Tekniske Skole, Bergen, Norway, during the period August 16 through September 3, 1965. Approximately one-third of the time was devoted to discussion. The various Session Chairmen have summarized the essential points brought out in these discussion periods which were generally quite spirited. The authors and the publisher have made a special effort to rapidly publish an up-to-date status concerning the various aspects of trapped radiation. Almost all authors turned in their manuscripts prior to the end of the Institute and all prior to September 30, 1965. It was clearly recognized that rapid publication was essential in this rapidly changing research area. Special thanks are due to the Host, Dr. Odd Dahl, Chr. Michelsen Institute, for making all of the arrangements in Bergen, including excellent living and working facilities. Direct financial support was provided the Institute by: North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Advanced Research Projects Agency, Air Force Cam bridge Research Laboratories, Army Research Office, Defence Atomic Support Agency, and the Office of Naval Research.

Book The Electromagnetic Torques on Spherical Earth Satellites in a Rarefied Partially Ionized Atmosphere

Download or read book The Electromagnetic Torques on Spherical Earth Satellites in a Rarefied Partially Ionized Atmosphere written by Frank Hohl and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A theoretical investigation has been made of the torques acting, as a result of electromagnetic interaction, on spherical conducting earth satellites. The analysis has been applied to the 41-meter-diameter satellite Echo II (1964 4A), which is in a near polar circular orbit. The calculations have yielded quantitative values for the accelerating and the decelerating torques. A probable explanation of the nearly constant spin rate of Echo II for a long period of time is that the eddy-current torque and the induction torque were in balance. Other torques are shown to be negligible in comparison with these two.

Book Terrestrial Magnetic Field Effects on an Electrostatic Analyzer

Download or read book Terrestrial Magnetic Field Effects on an Electrostatic Analyzer written by George A. Kuck and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A uniform magnetic field perturbation of the 1/r coulomb field between the plates of a spherical quadrant electrostatic analyzer was calculated using action-angle variables. The effect of the uniform earth's magnetic field on the electrostatic analyzer flown on satellite 1963-25 beta was shown to be negligible for particle energies above 10 keV. For electron energies below 1 keV, the perturbation of the electron trajectories would not be negligible for analyzer plates with a mean radius of 5 cm. (Author).

Book Solar Particle Radiation Storms Forecasting and Analysis

Download or read book Solar Particle Radiation Storms Forecasting and Analysis written by Olga E Malandraki and published by . This book was released on 2020-10-08 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solar energetic particles (SEPs) emitted from the Sun are a major space weather hazard motivating the development of predictive capabilities. This book presents the results and findings of the HESPERIA (High Energy Solar Particle Events forecasting and Analysis) project of the EU HORIZON 2020 programme. It discusses the forecasting operational tools developed within the project, and presents progress to SEP research contributed by HESPERIA both from the observational as well as the SEP modelling perspective. Using multi-frequency observational data and simulations HESPERIA investigated the chain of processes from particle acceleration in the corona, particle transport in the magnetically complex corona and interplanetary space, to the detection near 1 AU. The book also elaborates on the unique software that has been constructed for inverting observations of relativistic SEPs to physical parameters that can be compared with space-borne measurements at lower energies. Introductory and pedagogical material included in the book make it accessible to students at graduate level and will be useful as background material for Space Physics and Space Weather courses with emphasis on Solar Energetic Particle Event Forecasting and Analysis.
