Book excerpt: If a person has extra time, nothing to do, and finds themself looking for ways to fill their empty days...this book is definitely not for them. No Is a Beautiful Word is designed and crafted for people whose plate is full, whose margin is thin, and whose life feels overloaded. They are looking for help, relief, and wisdom to navigate the countless options that life offers on a daily basis. This book is needed by people who: Go to bed with a "To Do" list that never seems to get totally done. Kindly say, "Yes" and secretly regret it five minutes later. Feel pain and live with guilt when they have to say, "No." Were taught that "No" is a dirty word. Believe that saying "No" is a sign of weakness. Feel trapped by unwise past commitments. Want to say "Yes" to what matters most in life but are too exhausted. Know that their life is out of balance and are seeking to fix it! It will be valuable for: Leaders who have a tough time making the hard decisions because they fear hurting someone's feelings. Executives who feel over extended and pressed to the edges of their capacity. Parents who feel overworked and under appreciated. Students who are trying to balance the intensity of school, work, and their relational world. Retired people who find themselves saying, with subtle humor but aching regret, "I am more busy now than I have ever been!" Single people who go to bed at night exhausted because the day left no margin and offered no oasis of peace. Married people who love their life but secretly dream about time to play, space to relax, and taking a nap. No Is a Beautiful Word is designed to be read briskly, chewed on thoroughly, and acted on practically. The chapters are brief by intention. They range from one paragraph (that's right, some chapters are only a few sentences long!) to four pages. The goal of this book is give people clear concepts, paint a picture of what it looks like to live out the idea, and then move on to the next thought. The vision is to help people learn to say "No" to the things that don't matter (or don't matter as much) so they can say "Yes" to the things that bring life, hope, peace, and lasting meaning.

Book The Nightingale s Sonata

Download or read book The Nightingale s Sonata written by Thomas Wolf and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2019-06-04 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: *Winner of the Sophie Brody Medal* A moving and uplifting history set to music that reveals the rich life of one of the first internationally renowned female violinists. Spanning generations, from the shores of the Black Sea to the glittering concert halls of New York, The Nightingale's Sonata is a richly woven tapestry centered around violin virtuoso Lea Luboshutz. Like many poor Jews, music offered an escape from the predjudices that dominated society in the last years of the Russian Empire. But Lea’s dramatic rise as an artist was further accentuated by her scandalous relationship with the revolutionary Onissim Goldovsky. As the world around them descends in to chaos, between revolution and war, we follow Lea and her family from Russia to Europe and eventually, America. We cross paths with Pablo Casals, Isadora Duncan, Emile Zola and even Leo Tolstoy. The little girl from Odessa will eventually end up as one of the founding faculty of the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music, but along the way she will lose her true love, her father, and watch a son die young. The Iron Curtain would rise, but through it all, she plays on. Woven throughout this luminous odyssey is the story is Cesar Franck’s “Sonata for Violin and Piano.” As Lea was one of the first-ever internationally recognized female violinists, it is fitting that this pioneer was one of the strongest advocates for this young boundary-pushing composer and his masterwork.

Because when I’m with you, I am found. Because you have the fire of the universe in you, and sometimes you forget. So this book is here to remind you. Dear You, I want you to know that I see you. I want you to know that even if no one else does, even if you are a ghost in this bookshop, or just the static floating across the screen of your computer, wherever you’re reading this, I see you. I see you in the dark and I see you in the grey. I see you as a story, as words I have spoken or may yet speak. Maybe only in a memory or a dream. I see your hands and your arms and your body and your legs and your face and I see what you have been and what you will be. I see you and in looking at you, I want you to know that whoever you’ve had to be to survive all this, I will not look away. I want you to know that there’s a space inside this book for you. So if you have the time and the inclination, you can sit here with me, just for a while. And perhaps between us, we can see everything that matters. -pleasefindthis

Book The Consecrated Cocoon

Download or read book The Consecrated Cocoon written by Ann Thomas and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2012-03 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ever paid attention to a picture of a caterpillar in a cocoon? Ever wondered what's going on inside as she's changing from a crawling, not so attractive creature to one that's beautiful and soars? I'll tell you what's happening? The same thing that occurs when God draws us into a lonely place of intimate isolation to prepare us for radical and life-transforming changes. The caterpillar's internal and external features are undergoing drastic changes. She loses everything that's no longer needed when she becomes a butterfly. Among many changes is the loss of her mouth and feet, while she gains more eyes. Hanging upside down in total surrender to the process; the old things are dying off to make room for the new. And so it is with you and me when God's about to transform us into the women we desire and were created to be. We must lose our mouth (not speak against what God is doing); our feet (remain in the process), and gain eyes to see things from God's perspective. The caterpillar's old cells represent our sin and unhealthy baggage that God must remove such as, bitterness, lack of self-worth, shame, pride, and unforgiveness. These must go to make room for what the butterfly needs to soar. We initially hate and even fight the process of retreating to our spiritual cocoon, only to find an intimacy, love, and power we never knew existed. Yes, God draws us into isolation, but once we stop kicking and screaming and surrender; we realize that we yearn to be with God as much as He desires to be with us. When God has His perfect way in the process, we emerge more powerful than we could have imagined, ready to pursue our God-given purpose and destiny.
