Page 9 of 25 In Summary: "Stella's Stellar Adventure" is a sweet story about friendship, discovery, and wonder that takes kids on an amazing journey through space. We meet Stella at the beginning of the story. She is a little girl who is very interested in the night sky. She sees a comet cutting through the sky, which changes her life in an exciting way. Its mysterious beauty interests her. Stella sets out on an epic trip to find out more about the comet. Stella's loyal robot friend stays with her as she continues her journey through space. Their trip is an ode to the universe's wonders and the desire to find new things. In a secret valley on Mars, they find mysteries. On the Moon, old whispers tell them stories about the universe. On Mars, they dance through an asteroid belt where each rock hums its own cosmic tune. As the couple speeds through Saturn's rings, they see how stars are formed in a beautiful cloud, hear the comet they've been following sing by itself, and almost get sucked into an unimaginable black hole. Stella learns new things and faces new challenges in each area, which helps her grow and understand the world better. Stella and her robot have their most important contact on a faraway planet, where they learn from friendly aliens about how all living things are connected and different at the same time. Like the other meetings, this one stresses unity, bravery, and the insatiable human need to know and understand the unknown. She comes back to Earth at the end of her trip through the galaxy, full of amazing stories and lessons she learned while she was away. Stella is still very interested in learning, even though the trip is over. After she gets back, she sees the night sky not as a faraway work of art that she can't understand, but as a call to endless journeys and chances. "Stella's Stellar Adventure" tells kids to have big dreams, value their relationships, and always ask questions about the world they live in. It's not just a story about going into space. Stella thinks of the world as a beautiful, interesting, and never-ending place to learn. This makes her think of the journey that people who are brave enough to look beyond will go on. Page 10 of 25 Chapter 1: Comet's Night. Stella was amazed as she looked up at the sky on a clear, quiet night. The stars were shining like tiny lanterns, and the sky was a deep dark blue. On this particular night, she saw something very beautiful. The sky was filled with a comet that was as bright as the moon. Its tail flashed with colors Stella had never seen before, leaving a bright path of color behind it. As it moved through space, the comet left behind a sparkling path where red, blue, green, and purple colors mixed. Stella felt a spark of excitement ignite inside her. She was full of wonder and couldn't stop asking questions. She said, "I have to find out where it's going." She thought the comet was calling to her, luring her to go on an exciting journey with its mysterious beauty and hypnotic path. Stella knew that this was a unique chance to see something in the universe. She was very interested in following the comet, figuring out what it was, and figuring out its path. Stella saw the comet going through asteroid belts and cosmic clouds, above planets and stars, and deeper into the unknown with each second that went by. With its rainbow of colors, the comet's tail looked like a map of the universe's secrets and undiscovered wonders. Each glimmer could help us figure out one of the secrets that lie beyond. Stella was excited about the idea of going on a space journey to follow the comet and learn about the stories it might hold. Stella made a choice that would change her life because she liked to try new things and was eager to learn. She wouldn't just watch the comet from her garden; she would go after it, going into space to follow its tail and find out where it was going. Stella stuck to her promise, even though the idea was controversial and might be dangerous. She was ready to go on an amazing trip to find new places and learn about the universe's great mysteries. After she made her choice, Stella's mind was full of plans and thoughts. How could she find the comet? What secrets would she find along the way? Without a doubt, the trip would be hard and full of both pleasures and difficulties. Stella, on the other hand, showed no fear. She liked to try new things and was very interested in the universe, so she was ready to take on anything it had to offer. On the night of the comet, she felt like she wanted to learn more about the world and figure out its mysteries again. She was about to start her trip through space. Book excerpt: An epic and transporting novel, the latest installment of the “heart-wrenching, uplifting, and utterly enthralling” (Lucy Foley, author of The Guest List) Seven Sisters series, unravelling between the dazzling streets of modern-day New York City and the breathtaking plains of 1940s colonial Kenya. Electra d’Aplièse is a top model who seems to have it all: beauty, fame, and wealth. But beneath the glittery veneer, she’s cracking under all the pressure. When her father dies, she turns to alcohol and drugs to ease the pain. As friends and colleagues fear for her health, Electra receives a shocking letter from a stranger who claims to be her grandmother. In 1939, New Yorker Cecily Huntley-Morgan arrives in Kenya’s Lake Naivasha region for the exciting chance to stay with her godmother, the famous socialite Kiki Preston. But after a sheltered upbringing, she’s astounded by the hedonistic antics of the other ex-pats in the infamous Happy Valley set. Cecily soon grows to love her stunning but complicated new home, and she even accepts a proposal of marriage from an enigmatic older cattle farmer. After a shocking discovery and with war looming, Cecily feels isolated and alone. Until she meets a young woman in the woods and makes her a promise that will change the course of her life forever. Featuring Lucinda Riley’s “engaging and mesmerizing” (Library Journal, starred review) storytelling and filled with unforgettable and moving characters, The Sun Sister explores how love can cross seemingly impossible boundaries.

Book excerpt: Vampires do not exist. Everyone knows this. So it's particularly annoying when they start popping up around Manchester . . . Nobody is pleased about it. Not the Founders, the secret organisation for whom vampires were invented as an allegory, nor the Folk, the magical people hidden in plain sight who only want a quiet life. And definitely not the people of Manchester, because there is nothing more irksome than being murdered by an allegory run amok. Somebody needs to sort this out fast before all Hell really breaks loose - step forward the staff of The Stranger Times. It's not like they don't have enough to be dealing with. Assistant Editor Hannah has come back from getting messily divorced to discover that someone is trying to kidnap a member of their staff and while editor Vincent Banecroft would be delighted to see the back of any of his team, he doesn't like people touching his stuff - it's the principle of the thing. Throw in a precarious plumbing situation, gambling debts, an entirely new way of swearing, and a certain detective inspector with what could be kindly referred to as 'a lot of baggage' and it all adds up to another hectic week in the life of the newspaper committed to reporting the truth that nobody else will touch. This Charming Man is the second book in the critically acclaimed The Stranger Times series. 'A gag-filled romp . . . in the spirit of Terry Pratchett.' The Times 'Great characters, a jet-propelled plot, and a winning premise.' Guardian 'Fresh and genuinely funny.' SFX

Between Friends is for 7 -11 year olds and examines the politics of friendship between three young people when they are shipwrecked and abandoned in a lighthouse. Breaking China is for 4-8 year olds and shows the importance of creative play and storytelling when making sense of change and adversity. Seeking investment from Sir Harry Gillingham, he has a fleeting encounter with an elfin, tomboyish golden-red-haired beauty - Sir Harry's youngest daughter Lizbeth - and is bewitched by her limpid green eyes. Yet it is fair and golden-haired elder sister Phillida with whom he first falls in love... Granted his finances on the condition that Sir Harry's weak, possibly even traitorous son sails with him in the hope that the mission will make him a man, Rodney embarks on a voyage of blood, honour and glory in which he gains great riches but loses his heart, not once, but twice. The risks are great but so are the rewards: wealth beyond compare and, as Rodney finally discovers, a greater, deeper, more passionate love than he ever imagined possible. 02 The Little Pretender In 1750 Scotland, just four years after Bonnie Prince Charlie's Rising of the Clans, it's hard to know who's loyal to the English and who is faithful to the Stuarts. And it's beautiful seventeen-year-old Iona's perilous mission to ascertain whether the Duke of Arkrae, head of Scotland's most powerful clan, is a traitor - or is he in cahoots with the English. The plan is for Iona to gain the trust of the Duke and his clan by claiming to be the sister he thought to have died as a child. As all around her doubt her claim and call her a 'pretender', Iona struggles to hold her nerve. Her native wit and steel nerves do not fail her - but almost instantly, on meeting the imperious Duke, it's her heart that lets her down. She's fallen deeply, hopelessly in love! Traitor or not, surely the Duke could never love the Little Pretender who was sent only to ensnare him? 03 A Ghost in Monte Carlo Eighteen-year-old Mistral is an innocent abroad in the sophisticated C te D'Azur, where princes and millionaires mingle in the casinos and sumptuous hotels while others plot to relieve them of their riches. Accompanied only by her embittered and domineering Aunt Emilie and kindly servant Jeanne, Mistral appears dressed all in grey like a ghost in the salons and ballrooms of Monte Carlo and sets Society's tongues wagging. It's not long before her waif-like beauty has men falling at the feet of Madamoiselle F nt me - gentlemen such as Sir Robert Stanford. But on her sister's bewildering but strict instructions, she must not converse with any but the Russian Prince Nikolai, who's also keen to woo her, as is an opulent Indian Rajah... Something about Mistral touches Sir Robert's heart - and he cannot understand why Mistral appears afraid to be with him. Yet both of them crave love. Only if Mistral's innocent eyes are finally opened to the truth - that Aunt Emilie's motives are borne not of concern for her niece but of pure evil and greed - will she find her heart's desire... 04 A Duel of Hearts Just seventeen, Lady Caroline Faye is a

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The town of Silver Slopes was once a winter wonderland, offering all the activities a blanket of snow affords. Why would a winter village be deprived of a snowfall year after year? The villagers are hopeful, but the clouds above are determined to find the answer to that question. Fluff and Buff, the feathery clouds assigned to the sky above Silver Slopes, have two immediate problems: first, they long to be a part of a beautiful white snowfall, and secondly, they need to release the unwieldy and restless snowflakes they house. Afterall, it isn’t natural to create snowflakes only to release them as raindrops. Fluff travels to the Castle of all Seasons, to meet with Mother Nature seeking answers and help. What they learn about how one villager is causing the problem is not as surprising as the solution nature provides.

Book Phyllis Shand Allfrey

Download or read book Phyllis Shand Allfrey written by Lizabeth Paravisini-Gebert and published by Rutgers University Press. This book was released on 1996 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Phyllis Shand Allfrey is the first biography of one of the Caribbean's most intriguing writers and politicians. Allfrey (1908-1986) is best known as the author of The Orchid House, a fictionalized account of her early life that was turned into a highly acclaimed film for British television. Born to a prominent family of formerly wealthy sugar planters in Dominica, Allfrey followed an unexpected path: a rising novelist (who is often paired with Jean Rhys in critical discussion) and Fabian socialist in England and the United States, she returned to Dominica to organize the peasantry and estate workers into the island's first political party. Ostracized by the white elite into which she was born, she led the Dominica Labour party to power and became the West Indian Federation's only woman (and only white) minister, only to find herself expelled from the party when the rise of black nationalism made it expedient. The biography recreates Allfrey's life as it unfolds against the background of twentieth-century Caribbean political and literary history, from the decline of the planter class through the rise of party politics and the efforts to join the anglophone West Indies into a federation, to the troubled sixties and seventies, decades marked by racial violence and the emergence of the former British territories from colonial control. This volume includes five autobiographical stories that have long been out of print.
