Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Momentum Journey : Breakdown at Exit 63 is a true story of persistence, perseverance, and passion. It is about peaks and valleys. It is about expectations and disappointments. It is about hope and humility. It is about having a dream, a purpose, and a drive to succeed no matter what the obstacles may be. It is a story guided by the principles of faith. It is about a journeyThe Momentum Journey. I wrote this book to help inspire people who feel trapped and are struggling to find their purpose in life. This book is like a set of tools for life that can be used and reused, actually sharpening with each use. I want people to look beyond what they know to learn what they do not know. After all, the day we stop learning is the day we stop living. Fear is an emotion that does not discriminate. It is up to each individual to find their spark and their passion, to leave their comfort zones and grow from their fears, and to go out to do great things. It is up to each individual to discover the hope that lies deep inside their soul and to live out their own dreams. So why is that so many people in the world struggle to find their purpose in life? Who is the deciding factor in defining your purpose? Is it you? Your parents? Society? Gods will? Your circle of influence? The wealthy neighbor? The poor neighbor? Who then? Why is it that the average worker changes careers six times? Not jobs, but careers! Factor in a few jobs within each career and you are looking at an individual who is searching for their purpose. Have the days of long-term employment come and gone? Is your job security threatened? Are you fulfilled at work? What is IT that makes people happy, joyous, and free? Is it a big house? A shiny car? A beautiful spouse? Successful children? A huge 401K? A quality relationship with your family? A balanced life? A relationship with a Higher Power of your understanding? A life with meaning and purpose?Take a moment to reflect on some of the questions above and assess where you are today. I have found this tool extremely helpful in my career journey and I am sure you will too. How do you know where you are going if you dont know how you got where you are? The stories you are about to read are real. They are about individuals who made life-changing sacrifices to pursue their passions in life. They are about the inspirations in your local communities. They are about finding a purpose in life. Enjoy the book!Gratefully,Rob The MOJO Man Lohman

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 2020 Banff Mountain Book Competition Finalist in Adventure Travel In Journeys North, legendary trail angel, thru hiker, and former PCTA board member Barney Scout Mann spins a compelling tale of six hikers on the Pacific Crest Trail in 2007 as they walk from Mexico to Canada. This ensemble story unfolds as these half-dozen hikers--including Barney and his wife, Sandy--trod north, slowly forming relationships and revealing their deepest secrets and aspirations. They face a once-in-a-generation drought and early severe winter storms that test their will in this bare-knuckled adventure. In fact, only a third of all the hikers who set out on the trail that year would finish. As the group approaches Canada, a storm rages. How will these very different hikers, ranging in age, gender, and background, respond to the hardship and suffering ahead of them? Can they all make the final 60-mile push through freezing temperatures, sleet, and snow, or will some reach their breaking point? Journeys North is a story of grit, compassion, and the relationships people forge when they strive toward a common goal.

Built on land once occupied by the most advanced pre-Columbian irrigation society, Phoenix overcame its hostile desert surroundings to become a thriving agricultural center. After World War II, its population exploded with the mid-century mass migration to the Sun Belt. In times of rapid expansion or decline, Phoenicians proved themselves to be adaptable and optimistic. Phoenix's past is an engaging and surprising story of audacity, vision, greed and a never-ending fight to secure its future. Chronicling the challenges of growth and change, fourth-generation Arizonan Jon Talton tells the story of the city that remains one of American civilization's great accomplishments.

This disjunction from the outside world poisons our relationships and threatens our ability to find true fulfillment. But there is a path to a better version of the modern man. By confronting the inner challenges that inform our outward behaviors, we can reshape ourselves. With help and courage, we can set off on a new journey toward better relationships, more honest and effective communication, and an overall better life. Tony C. Book High Price

Book excerpt: High Price is the harrowing and inspiring memoir of neuroscientist Carl Hart, a man who grew up in one of Miami’s toughest neighborhoods and, determined to make a difference as an adult, tirelessly applies his scientific training to help save real lives. Young Carl didn't see the value of school, studying just enough to keep him on the basketball team. Today, he is a cutting-edge neuroscientist—Columbia University’s first tenured African American professor in the sciences—whose landmark, controversial research is redefining our understanding of addiction. In this provocative and eye-opening memoir, Dr. Carl Hart recalls his journey of self-discovery, how he escaped a life of crime and drugs and avoided becoming one of the crack addicts he now studies. Interweaving past and present, Hart goes beyond the hype as he examines the relationship between drugs and pleasure, choice, and motivation, both in the brain and in society. His findings shed new light on common ideas about race, poverty, and drugs, and explain why current policies are failing.

Book North Country

    Book Details:
  • Author : Howard Frank Mosher
  • Publisher : HMH
  • Release : 2014-07-29
  • ISBN : 0544391241
  • Pages : 275 pages

Download or read book North Country written by Howard Frank Mosher and published by HMH. This book was released on 2014-07-29 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A richly observant memoir of a coast-to-coast journey along the US-Canada border . . . An armchair traveler’s delight” (Kirkus Reviews). “Part travelogue, part memoir, part meditation, part exploration,” North Country is an account of a trip along the northern border of the United States in search of the country’s last unspoiled frontiers (The Boston Sunday Globe). In this vast, sparsely settled territory, Howard Frank Mosher found both a harsh and beautiful landscape and some of the continent’s most independent men and women. Here, he brings this remote area to vivid life in a book “bright with anecdote and history and lore and most importantly with affection for his human subjects” (Richard Ford, Pulitzer Prize–winning author of Independence Day). “A classic road book. You could, with confidence, place this book on the shelf next to such American classics as John Steinbeck’s Travels with Charley and Jonathan Raban’s Old Glory.” —Detroit Free Press “What Mosher’s northern journey is really about is our society’s loss of Eden, the garden we were promised when we came here. The garden we’ve turned into pulp fiction and rocket ranges. The very fact that this brave book can stir up so many thoughts about the predicaments of civilization is surely an indication that it is well worth reading.” —Ottawa Citizen
