Book The Molecular Structural Basis of Electrode Kinetics

Download or read book The Molecular Structural Basis of Electrode Kinetics written by Michael J. Weaver and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The overall objective is to develop fundamental understanding of the connections between the kinetics and mechanisms of heterogeneous electron-transfer reactions at metal electrolyte interfaces and the molecular structure of the reactant and the interfacial region. Overall tactics include a combination of electrochemical kinetic and thermodynamic measurements along with in-situ vibrational spectroscopies (Raman and infrared techniques). Together, these approaches enable molecular structural as well as kinetic information to be obtained for reactive electrochemical systems, thereby constituting new means of gaining a molecular-level understanding of electrode-solution systems. Keywords: Interface, Adsorption, Oxidation reduction reactions.

Book Studies of the Correlation of Electrode Kinetics with Molecular Structure

Download or read book Studies of the Correlation of Electrode Kinetics with Molecular Structure written by Michael J. Weaver and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The overall objective is to develop our understanding of the connections between the kinetics and mechanisms of heterogeneous electron-transfer reactions at metal-electrolyte interfaces and the molecular structure of the reactant and the interfacial region. We have chiefly focussed attention on transition-metal redox couples, especially Co(III)/(II), Cr(III)/(II), and Ru(III)/(II) containing adsorbing inorganic and organic ligands at a number of electrocatalytic solid surfaces, especially silver, platinum, and gold, as well as at mercury electrodes. By combining electrochemical kinetic and reactant adsorption thermodynamic measurements, along with in situ vibrational spectroscopic studies using Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS), the various catalytic influences exerted by the metal interface upon the energetics of electrode reactions have been probed in detail.

Book Correlation of Electrode Kinetics with Surface Structure

Download or read book Correlation of Electrode Kinetics with Surface Structure written by Michael J. Weaver and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The overall objective of this research is to develop an understanding of the relationships between the kinetics and mechanisms of some simple heterogeneous electron-transfer reactions and the molecular structure of the reactant and the electrode-solution interface. Emphasis is being placed on studies of transition-metal redox couples involving substitutionally inert complexes in aqueous media at a number of solid metals as well as at mercury electrodes. These reactions provide excellent model systems for studying structural effects in electron transfer, since they are mechanistically simple and either inner- or outer-sphere reaction mechanisms can be induced, depending on the ability of the coordinated ligands to bind to the electrode surface. Problems that were addressed included: (1) the effects of varying the nature of the metal surface upon the rates of inner-and outer-sphere reactions; (2) the influence of ionic specific adsorption upon the reactivities of outer-sphere pathways; (3)determination of the influence of reactant specific adsorption to the reorganization energy barrier for electron transfer, and (4) elucidation of the role of reactant-solvent interactions in redox kinetics and thermodynamics.

Book Electrode Kinetics for Chemists Chemical Engineers and Materials Scientists

Download or read book Electrode Kinetics for Chemists Chemical Engineers and Materials Scientists written by Eliezer Gileadi and published by Capstone. This book was released on 1993 with total page 620 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Offering a thorough explanation of electrode kinetics, this textbook emphasizes physical phenomena - rather than mathematical formalism - and elucidates the underlying principles of the different experimental techniques. Assuming an elementary knowledge of thermodynamics and chemical kinetics and minimal mathematical skills, coverage explores the arguments of two primary schools of thought: electrode kinetics and interfacial electrochemistry viewed as a branch of physical chemistry and from the perspective of analytical chemistry.

Book Handbook of Electrochemistry

Download or read book Handbook of Electrochemistry written by Cynthia G. Zoski and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2007-02-07 with total page 935 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electrochemistry plays a key role in a broad range of research and applied areas including the exploration of new inorganic and organic compounds, biochemical and biological systems, corrosion, energy applications involving fuel cells and solar cells, and nanoscale investigations. The Handbook of Electrochemistry serves as a source of electrochemical information, providing details of experimental considerations, representative calculations, and illustrations of the possibilities available in electrochemical experimentation. The book is divided into five parts: Fundamentals, Laboratory Practical, Techniques, Applications, and Data. The first section covers the fundamentals of electrochemistry which are essential for everyone working in the field, presenting an overview of electrochemical conventions, terminology, fundamental equations, and electrochemical cells, experiments, literature, textbooks, and specialized books. Part 2 focuses on the different laboratory aspects of electrochemistry which is followed by a review of the various electrochemical techniques ranging from classical experiments to scanning electrochemical microscopy, electrogenerated chemiluminesence and spectroelectrochemistry. Applications of electrochemistry include electrode kinetic determinations, unique aspects of metal deposition, and electrochemistry in small places and at novel interfaces and these are detailed in Part 4. The remaining three chapters provide useful electrochemical data and information involving electrode potentials, diffusion coefficients, and methods used in measuring liquid junction potentials. * serves as a source of electrochemical information * includes useful electrochemical data and information involving electrode potentials, diffusion coefficients, and methods used in measuring liquid junction potentials * reviews electrochemical techniques (incl. scanning electrochemical microscopy, electrogenerated chemiluminesence and spectroelectrochemistry)

Book Beyond the Molecular Frontier

    Book Details:
  • Author : National Research Council
  • Publisher : National Academies Press

Download or read book Beyond the Molecular Frontier written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2003-03-19 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemistry and chemical engineering have changed significantly in the last decade. They have broadened their scopeâ€"into biology, nanotechnology, materials science, computation, and advanced methods of process systems engineering and controlâ€"so much that the programs in most chemistry and chemical engineering departments now barely resemble the classical notion of chemistry. Beyond the Molecular Frontier brings together research, discovery, and invention across the entire spectrum of the chemical sciencesâ€"from fundamental, molecular-level chemistry to large-scale chemical processing technology. This reflects the way the field has evolved, the synergy at universities between research and education in chemistry and chemical engineering, and the way chemists and chemical engineers work together in industry. The astonishing developments in science and engineering during the 20th century have made it possible to dream of new goals that might previously have been considered unthinkable. This book identifies the key opportunities and challenges for the chemical sciences, from basic research to societal needs and from terrorism defense to environmental protection, and it looks at the ways in which chemists and chemical engineers can work together to contribute to an improved future.
