Book The Singular Nature of Three dimensional Perturbations of Boundary Layers and the Small Cross Flow Theory

Download or read book The Singular Nature of Three dimensional Perturbations of Boundary Layers and the Small Cross Flow Theory written by Raymond Sedney and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three-dimensional perturbations on two-dimensional boundary layer flows are considered. First initially induced perturbations are studied and a general solution obtained. Second a specific externally induced perturbation is discussed. In both the streamwise velocity perturbation becomes infinite but the cross flow decays as downstream infinity is approached. This implies that the small cross flow approximation is a singular perturbation. The basis for this lies in the fact that the nature of the equations is changed by the approximation, viz., the zone of dependence property is lost.

Book Laminar Turbulent Transition

Download or read book Laminar Turbulent Transition written by Ryoji Kobayashi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-12 with total page 541 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (IUTAM) decided in 1992 to sponsor the fourth Symposium on Laminar-Turbulent Transition, Sendai/Japan, 1994. The objectives of the present Symposium were to deepen the fundamental knowledge of stability and laminar turbulent transition in three-dimensional and compressible flows and to contribute to recent developing technologies in the field. This Symposium followed the three previous IUTAM-Symposia (Stuttgart 1979, Novosibirsk 1984 and Toulouse 1989). The Scientific Committee selected two keynote lectures and 62 technical papers. The Symposium was held on the 5th to 9th of September, 1994, at the Sendai International Center in Sendai. The participants were 82 scientists from 10 countries. The keynote lectures have critically reviewed recent development of researches concerning the laminar-to-turbulent transition phenomena from the fundamental and the application aspects. Many papers presented were concerned about the detailed mechanism of the boundary layer transition (receptivity, secondary instability, turbulent spot and bypass transition). Particular emphasis was further placed on the transition of three-dimensional boundary layers on rotation systems and on swept wings. Attention was also given to compressible hypersonic flows.

Book Steady Three dimensional Perturbations in Boundary Layers

Download or read book Steady Three dimensional Perturbations in Boundary Layers written by Raymond Sedney and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of three-dimensional boundary layers is synonymous with the study of cross flow or streamwise vorticity in the boundary layer. The research is concerned with the initial value problem for the 3-D boundary layer equations. Results are reported on exact solutions for the decay of streamwise vorticity, on a combined oil-flow--optical method of visualizing the surface flow field in the presence of 3D protuberances, and nonuniform behavior of the small crossflow approximation.

Book Flow Control

Download or read book Flow Control written by Thomas C. Corke and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2024-04-11 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive treatment of passive and active flow control in fluid dynamics, with an emphasis on utilizing fluid instabilities for enhancing control performance. Examples are given from a wide range of technologically important flow fields occurring in aerospace applications, from low-subsonic to hypersonic Mach numbers. This essential book can be used for both research and teaching on the topics of fluid instabilities, fluid measurement and flow actuator techniques, and problem sets are provided at the end of each chapter to reinforce key concepts and further extend readers' understanding of the field. The solutions manual is available as a online resource for instructors. The text is well suited for both graduate students in fluid dynamics and for practising engineers in the aerodynamics design field.
