Book Gaseous Ion Mobility Diffusion and Reaction

Download or read book Gaseous Ion Mobility Diffusion and Reaction written by Larry A. Viehland and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-12-19 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about the drift, diffusion, and reaction of ions moving through gases under the influence of an external electric field, the gas temperature, and the number density. While this field was established late in the 19th century, experimental and theoretical studies of ion and electron swarms continue to be important in such varied fields as atomic and molecular physics, aeronomy and atmospheric chemistry, gaseous electronics, plasma processing, and laser physics. This book follows in the rigorous tradition of well-known older books on the subject, while at the same time providing a much-needed overview of modern developments with a focus on theory. Graduate students and researchers new to this field will find this book an indispensable guide, particularly those involved with ion mobility spectrometry and the use of ion transport coefficients to test and improve ab initio ion-neutral interaction potentials. Established researchers and academics will find in this book a modern companion to the classic references.

Book Swarms of Ions and Electrons in Gases

Download or read book Swarms of Ions and Electrons in Gases written by W. Lindinger and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our understanding of elementary processes in plasmas has been increasing dramatically over the last few years. The development of various swarm techniques, such as the temperature variable selected ion flow tube or the selected ion flow drift tube, has provided the prerequisite for detailed investigations into ion molecule reactions both in binary and three body collisions, and the mechanisms of many reactions are now understood quite satisfactorily. This information could not have been obtained without a detailed knowledge of the transport phenomena involved. Some of these, such as the internal-energy distribution of drifting ions, have only very recently been tackled both theoretically and experimentally; a consistent model is now being developed. As the interactions between the various branches of swarm research have become more and more intense, the most obvious thing to do was putting together a review on the present state of this subject, which is the aim of this book.

Book The Mobility Diffusion and Clustering of K Ions in Gases

Download or read book The Mobility Diffusion and Clustering of K Ions in Gases written by G. M. Thomson and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors have measured, with a drift tube mass spectrometer, the mobilities and longitudinal diffusion coefficients of K(+) ions in nitrogen and carbon monoxide at 300K. The zero-field reduced mobilities of K(+) ions in N2 and CO were determined. The experimental diffusion coefficients were compared with the predictions of an equation developed by Wannier on the assumption that the ion-molecule interaction consists of only the attractive polarization force. Comparison is also made with a modified version of this equation which contains the ionic drift velocity rather than the mean free time. Also observed was the clustering of single molecules of CO2, NO, CO, N2, O2, Ar, D2, Ne, and He to K(+) ions.

Book The Mobility Diffusion and Clustering of K Ions in Gases Report II

Download or read book The Mobility Diffusion and Clustering of K Ions in Gases Report II written by D. R. James and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors have used a drift tube mass spectrometer to measure the mobilities and longitudinal diffusion coefficients of K(+) ions in argon at 300K. The range of E/N extends from 1 to 610 Td, where E is the electric field intensity and N is the number density of the neutral gas. The zero-field reduced mobility of K(+) in argon was found. The diffusion coefficient data is compared with values obtained from the Wannier theory for motion of ions in strong electric fields. Also included are tabulated transport data for K(+) in Ar, N2, and CO. (Author).
