Book Gaseous Ion Mobility Diffusion and Reaction

Download or read book Gaseous Ion Mobility Diffusion and Reaction written by Larry A. Viehland and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-12-19 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about the drift, diffusion, and reaction of ions moving through gases under the influence of an external electric field, the gas temperature, and the number density. While this field was established late in the 19th century, experimental and theoretical studies of ion and electron swarms continue to be important in such varied fields as atomic and molecular physics, aeronomy and atmospheric chemistry, gaseous electronics, plasma processing, and laser physics. This book follows in the rigorous tradition of well-known older books on the subject, while at the same time providing a much-needed overview of modern developments with a focus on theory. Graduate students and researchers new to this field will find this book an indispensable guide, particularly those involved with ion mobility spectrometry and the use of ion transport coefficients to test and improve ab initio ion-neutral interaction potentials. Established researchers and academics will find in this book a modern companion to the classic references.

Book Reference Data on Atomic Physics and Atomic Processes

Download or read book Reference Data on Atomic Physics and Atomic Processes written by Boris M. Smirnov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-09-03 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each scientist works with certain information and collects it in the course of prof- sional activity. In the same manner, the author collected data for atomic physics and atomic processes. This information was checked in the course of the author’s p- fessional activity and was published in the form of appendices to the corresponding books on atomic and plasma physics. Now it has been decided to publish these data separately. This book contains atomic data and useful information about atomic particles and atomic systems including molecules, nanoclusters, metals and condensed s- tems of elements. It also gives information about atomic processes and transport processes in gases and plasmas. In addition, the book deals with general concepts and simple models for these objects and processes. We give units and conversion factors for them as well as conversion factors for spread formulas of general physics and the physics of atoms, clusters and ionized gases since such formulas are used in professional practice by each scientist of this area.

Book Transport Properties of Ions in Gases

Download or read book Transport Properties of Ions in Gases written by Edward A. Mason and published by Wiley-VCH. This book was released on 1988-08-09 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presents thorough coverage of the transport properties of ions in gases. Starts from first principles, making this book useful to those new to the field as well as to experts. Describes the motions of ions in gases in electric fields, methods for measuring mobilities and diffusion coefficients, and pitfalls in measuring these quantities. Provides a detailed development of the theory of transport processes in the context of the kinetic theory of gases. Includes relevant experimental techniques and an index to experimental data.

Book Swarms of Ions and Electrons in Gases

Download or read book Swarms of Ions and Electrons in Gases written by W. Lindinger and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our understanding of elementary processes in plasmas has been increasing dramatically over the last few years. The development of various swarm techniques, such as the temperature variable selected ion flow tube or the selected ion flow drift tube, has provided the prerequisite for detailed investigations into ion molecule reactions both in binary and three body collisions, and the mechanisms of many reactions are now understood quite satisfactorily. This information could not have been obtained without a detailed knowledge of the transport phenomena involved. Some of these, such as the internal-energy distribution of drifting ions, have only very recently been tackled both theoretically and experimentally; a consistent model is now being developed. As the interactions between the various branches of swarm research have become more and more intense, the most obvious thing to do was putting together a review on the present state of this subject, which is the aim of this book.

Book The Kinetic Theory of Gases

Download or read book The Kinetic Theory of Gases written by Leonard B. Loeb and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2004-01-01 with total page 746 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A pioneering text in its field, this comprehensive study is one of the most valuable texts and references available. The author explores the classical kinetic theory in the first four chapters, with discussions of the mechanical picture of a perfect gas, the mean free path, and the distribution of molecular velocities. Tbhe fifth chapter deals with the more accurate equations of state, or Van der Waals' equation, and later chapters examine viscosity, heat conduction, surface phenomena, and Browninan movements. The text surveys the application of quantum theory to the problem of specific heats and the contributions of kinetic theory to knowledge of electrical and magnetic properties of molecules, concluding with applications of the kinetic theory to the conduction of electricity in gases. 1934 edition.

Book Mobilities of Mass Identified Atomic Ions in the Noble Gases

Download or read book Mobilities of Mass Identified Atomic Ions in the Noble Gases written by R. Johnsen and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A drift tube/mass spectrometer apparatus has been used to determine the mobilities of mass-identified atomic ions in the noble gases as a function of E/p (drift field/gas pressure) at T = 295 K. The measured values of the reduced mobilities of He(+) in He, Ne(+) in Ne and Ar(+) in Ar are in agreement with earlier investigations and quantal calculations, but the observed decrease of mobility with ion energy is somewhat slower than that predicted by theory. The measured mobility of each of the noble gas ions in He is found to be 6-12% lower than that of the corresponding alkali ion (as determined by Tyndall's group). (Modified author abstract).
